We had decided that we wanted to visit Avebury and Stonehenge this year so Devizes seemed like a good place to camp. We like staying on C&CC sites as you know what you are getting and we were not disappointed.

We were greeted by very friendly wardens who found us a nice spot to pitch with hedges on two sides. The pitch was very flat and we had plenty of space.

Toilets as would be expected on a club site were kept clean and were easily sufficient for the site. I never had to wait for a toilet or wash hand basin and only had to wait a minute or two for a shower.

Washing up sinks we did have to wait a few minutes for a couple of times but there was always HOT water and washing up was almost a pleasure.

Our 8 year old son loved the site, there is a small play area surrounded by grass, lots of tarmac roads which always had kids either on scooters or bikes on. At the back of the site is a large field split into a dog field and a children's field. At the back of this is a wooded area with a maze of paths. Whilst this was great for our son it did make finding him hard at times.

We liked the fact that at 9pm the wardens came round and sent any children they found to bed, children are much more likely to obey the official wardens than their parents

We had a wonderful 8 nights and would go back to this campsite in an instant

This was our third time at Devizes and it was every bit as good as the last. If anyone is thinking of setting up a site then they take a look at this one.

Spotless toilets and showers, immaculately kept grounds and above all very friendly staff.

It sits along side the Kennet and Avon canal with a lovely pub (The Barge) about a mile down the canal but if you don't fancy the walk the Three Magpies is right on the doorstep it serves some of the best beer I have ever tasted and its brewed just down the road in Devizes.

If I had to fault anything its that the wardens insist on instructing you how to reverse your caravan onto the pitch, I'm sure that in most cases this can be very helpful but I'm better on my own. Probably just me!

Looking forward to our next visit.

Nice site, but you do pay for it. The facilities are spotless, and very good. The whole site is kept in wonderful condition.

Not my favourite site though, mainly because there are so many rules! None of the rules are unreasonable. Just notices and reminders everywhere. Doesn't really make it all that relaxing.

The site is situated in a lovely position, and my only real complaint is that you do not feel that you are getting value for money. It cost us over 30 a night for a folding camper, with no awning, for 2 adults and 2 small children. We have stayed at places with swimming pools and far more facilities that do not cost that much.

The site itself is lovely, but we will not be going back.

We agree with the earlier comment about the wardens helping you park. Well meant, but not necessary.

This site has to be one of our favourite C&CC sites. It's 5*.

We had 2 nights here early July. We arrived to a very friendly welcome and were asked where we'd like to pitch, then shown to a lovely large hardstanding by the warden on his bike and given all the information about the site.

There are plenty of water points dotted around the site and all bins are in an area near to the entrance. The office/reception has a few essentials but they do not offer newspapers, ordered or otherwise.

The central toilet/shower block is 5*. Code entry and spotless 24-7. 4 showers, 8 or so toilets and privacy cubicles in the ladies (I guess it was the same in the gents?).

Turn left out of the site and 2 minutes walk brings you to the Three Magpies. Nice food (Sunday lunch was good but not massive, Monday they did a 2-course lunch menu for 6 - now that was more like it!). Beer and cider was the most expensive we found on our trip though. Turn right and you're on the Kennett & Avon Canal. We biked into Devizes one day (approx 4 miles each way). It was hard going up Caen Hill Locks but stunning, much better on the way back! We walked along the towpath in the opposite direction that evening and came across the Barge Inn. Great pub, where we sat outside and watched the barges go by. Didn't eat there this time (after our 2-course lunch!) but will definitely try it on our return.

We are hoping to go back to Devizes later in the year and have recommended the site to some friends, who will hopefully camp with us this time.

We had to delay our visit here by 2 days as the site was full. We stayed a week. It is brilliant. One of the best. The canal is 2 minutes away, in fact one side of the site is alongside the tow path.

We cycled along the tow path into Devizes, stopping for morning coffee at the top of the Caen Locks. We also cycled the opposite direction along the tow path to a pub called the Barge Inn, very popular, excellent food, very good barbecue food in the garden along side the canal.

The Three Magpies Pub next door had been so busy the weekend we arrived that they had run out of gas and could not serve hot food. We had a very large hardstanding pitch at the rear of the site which had extensive grass next door and gave us privacy.

We tow a KA and the site is easy to access and move about towing a vehicle. The staff were very friendly, and helped us pitch and set up. They also had loads of information about the area and facilities.

The loos and facilities were excellent, what you would expect really from a Club site. It was quiet and is ideally situated for exploring the area by foot, cycle, or bus. We will return to this site.

Stayed for 4 nights - grass, no EHU. All hardstanding was taken when I booked, but this turned out to be a good thing because I ended up getting a nice pitch along one side of the site which was fairly flat and had plenty of space - the hardstanding area didn't offer much privacy and it felt like a lot of pitches crammed in. The grass pitches at the back of the site also looked better spaced out and quieter.

The central facilities block followed the usual format - toilets/showers, laundry facilities, dishwashing area and CDP. The gents' contained 4 showers that just about coped with the almost full site.

There was a water point next to my pitch and a service point near the entrance; there were no recycling bins but I was told by the wardens that everything put into the waste skips near the service point was sorted for recyclables.

TV and radio reception was OK; mobile (O2) was good; 3G ('3') was poor.

One of the main attractions of the site is right next door - the canal, which you can walk along to Devizes (took about 75 minutes). I had a good meal there (Castle Hotel bar) before checking out the weekly market (every Thursday).

Further afield I visited Lacock Abbey (near Chippenham), Avebury (near Calne) and Dyrham Park (north of Bath). I also found a great little farm shop/cafe between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon - Hartley Farm.

Overall - great wardens, good location and facilities. Unfortunately its popularity makes it a bit too crowded for me so I will probably only use it as an overnight stop.
