Just back from great 5 night stay at Broadleigh - would have paid for extra night but we knew the rain was coming and we preferred to pack up dry.

Lovely, spacious site - 3 large gently, sloping fields with no designated pitches - some pitches are flat, others on slight incline. Peaceful and very rural. We have a large tent but had plenty of room and were not cramped in any way. Most units located around perimeter of fields leaving huge space for children to bike ride, kite, play with balls etc. Owner gave us a choice of pitch and left it to us to decide which suited us best. Some groups pitched facing each other. The site is quiet & peaceful and generally, everyone's settled down by 10-1030pm - although, as always, there's someone that likes the sound of their own voice a little too much and carries on yakking loudly til midnight.

Shower & toilet facilities are excellent - although it would be even better if the water was consistently hot - generally warm but on one occasion cold but warmed up half-way through.

Contrary to earlier comments, we witnessed the block being cleaned daily not weekly plus there are mops provided for the showers and cloths for the sinks, for visitors to wipe down after they've used shower/sink. Sadly, not everyone has a high regard for their fellow campers and therefore any mess we found was due to others not cleaning up after themselves properly and not a reflection on the owner's cleaning.

Dish washing & laundry room great too.

Reception open long hours, sells farmer's cider, ice cream and has a freezer for your ice blocks. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Owner seemed chilled and happy for us to just enjoy ourselves.

Sainsbury's is about 5 mins away. Stoke Gabriel is a pretty little village - free WIFI available at River Shack Cafe - right on water's edge with crabbing & free parking - they've recently extended opening hours to those quoted on their website and do pizza/bbq nights as well. We preferred the beach at Broad Sands over Paignton. Just take plenty of change for the car parks in the area as they only take correct amounts. We liked Brixham - lots of little shops, cafes, restaurants. Paignton wasn't for us although the Crazy Golf on prom is good fun and worth a go.

We chose this area simply to meet up with friends staying nearby but there were lots of things to do that we didn't have chance to try. The kids loved the site and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

We stayed for 7 nights and found this an excellent place to stay in Devon. 'Lane' down to site is awful, width of the caravan and am glad we didn't meet another van on the way or I don't know what we would have done.

Showers are great, large area to change, hot, very clean and free. Toilets/showers were spotless every time I used them. Sites are spacious with electric hook up on most sites though a long electric lead may be required depending on where you decide to park.

Short drive to Morrisons beside Paignton Zoo and within easy driving distance to Paignton, Torquay and Brixham. Walking distance to Stoke Gabriel (along country road) where we spent many an hour crab fishing.

Would highly recommend and if every going to Devon again will stay here.

When booking this campsite I was told the price would be £11.50pn, the day before we left I phoned again to make the price was including the car the farmers wife told me it would be £11.00pn, I thought great, cheapish. When we did arrive the farmer was no where to be seen we had to hunt him down then when we finally found him the price went UP to £72 for 6 nights he said it was 7 night deal {bearing in mind we were only staying for 6 nights}! We had to pay it as no one else was open. There were Free showers which we thought fantastic until we actually had a shower then we realised the water didn't get hot. I'd rather pay the extra for hot water. The bathroom only got cleaned once a week also the reception wasn't open luckily we didn't need anything as we got it when we went out.

The location was great ideal to get to Plymouth, Totnes {which has a market Friday mornings}, Paignton, Exeter {great day at the races}, also we got the steam train from Paignton then a ferry to Dartmouth. So the location was really good. When you did want something from the farmer you could never find him. Then just as you have had the day out you get back relax with a nice cold beer sunbathing and the lawnmower comes out just cutting the grass in random places.

Stoke Gabriel is great for a nice walk into the pubs at night and the people there are very friendly. Wouldn't go again as we've seen it now.

Superb site. Enjoyed so much that we booked for Easter 2001 while we were there.

Gorgeous setting on a working farm, very spacious pitches with central reception / toilets / showers / washing up / laundry rooms, so easy to get to from whole of site. Facilities all well kept and lovely and clean.

Site has a bridal/footpath running along side on which we walked dog and rode bikes and Stoke Gabriel's football pitch is just off path so my football mad son went to watch them play the day that we arrived. We took same path and walked just over the mile into Stoke Gabriel village and had a wonderful day fishing for crabs off the harbour dam.

There is a SPAR supermarket 5 mins drive back towards M5 if preferred and only 15 mins drive to Newton Abbott or Torquay.

There is no children's play area which at first I was going to say was a downpoint, but if they put one in then I fear the price would go up which is fantastically cheap and the children had footballs, bikes, boules, and their DS's for the wet days, so I am quite happy with excellent value for money and make our own entertainment as a family.

As mentioned we have already booked for Easter 2011 and I can easily see us booking Summer 2011 while we are there at Easter.

We've just come back from a fantastic week at Broadleigh. The campsite has a beautiful setting, which led to gorgeous sunsets and fantastic views of the stars!

The facilities are well kept - several clean showers with enough space to wash the kids and keep clothes dry.

There is a good washing up room with space to wash dishes or clothes. It contains 2 washing machines and 2 tumble driers too, which are operated by tokens.

There is not really any other facilities - which is the true gem of this site. You just get people who want to camp here, and the kids had hours of fun playing with their kites and footballs.

There are lots of walks just outside the site and it was only a 5 min drive to a supermarket.

The site is well positioned to explore Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. It's about an hour's drive to Plymouth.

We had a great time and will definitely return for it's quiet, non-touristy feel!

A gem of a site! This is exactly what I imagine a campsite to be. On a working farm, spacious pitches and no hard standings, with great toilet/shower and washing up facilities, with no games room, club house or bar. As close to perfect for us I think we could find. It was so like Carry On Camping, I expected to see Barbara Windsor and Terry Scott every morning! I canít praise this site highly enough.

We stayed for 7 nights(early August)- 2 adults in a tent.

The approach is down typically narrow Devon lanes. Great location for access to South Hams, Dartmoor and Torbay areas. Masses of attractions and things to do in these areas.

The site is split into three fields separated by hedges. There was also a rally field and a small 5 caravan section. There are no marked pitches or hardstandings. There was loads of space and never felt crowded, despite being busy. Lots of room for cricket, bike riding, kite flying etc. You got shown where to pitch, but didnít seem to be any silly rules about which way round etc. There were groups of units facing each other, and tents, caravans and motorhomes all intermingled.

The new facilities block was great. Four massive showers in both the gents and ladies with separate wet and dry areas in each cubicle. It was spotlessly clean, always well stocked with loo roll and the ladies had a hairdryer in. There is also a washing up room with washing machines and dryers (no microwave or freezer though). The reception sells local ice cream, cider and eggs.

There is a recycling area and enclosed rubbish skip near the entrance. Most pitches appeared to have access to EHU although you did need a long lead- our 25m only just reached our pitch! There was a drinking water tap in each field and a CDP outside the facilities block. Grey water went into the hedges.

The village, with a few shops and two pubs, was half an hour walk away, but the lanes are quite busy and I am not sure about walking them after dark.

The site was very quiet after about 9.30pm. Take a good flashlight or torch, as the lights in the facilities block are not on during the night.

For us, this was a fantastic site and we will definitely return.
