Fantastic campsite! Facilities clean and no queues. Large pitches nicely spread out with plenty of open space for children to play near to tent. Park facilities superb - adventure playground, pirate ship in river, rope swings, slides all included in price and lots of other activities for an additional cost. Restaurant food good value and good selection. Well stocked shop open from 8am - 8pm essential supplies. Plenty of wooded dog walking areas. Site very quiet after 10pm even though full. Downside was quite a long walk to the amenities block from our pitch and no lighting. Also showers were very hot - but there was a problem which was being addressed by the site staff. Lots to do in the area - including many dog friendly activities and beaches even in August. Great place for a family holiday.

We have just returned from a couple of nights stay at this site and I have to say I'm left with mixed feelings whether to recommend it or not. The facilities on offer around the park are plentiful and not too expensive.

We ate twice at the cafe which was really handy, the food was reasonably priced and ok, the cafe looked clean and well-staffed. The welcome at reception was efficient and friendly and the whole park was well-signposted. You can buy most basic provisions from the shop on-site.

There is a games room, indoor climbing wall and some film nights - a great relief for parents trying to survive the nasty weather.

My gripes are all to do with the way the actual camp site was run, especially maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities i.E two of the washing up sinks where blocked with water with stale food floating about the entire time we were there, two taps couldn't be switched off so water was going down the drain 24 hours a day -this is meant to be a 'green site'! The chemical toilet point stank and was dirty, I never had a hot shower or a warm one, some toilets didn't flush properly, don't ever touch one of the loo brushes! There was never any water, clean or otherwise in the mop bucket for the showers, this lead to the shower floors being caked in a muddy slime, my nearest water point was inefficient and poorly maintained. What they call a hard standing is more half grass with other half consisting of a narrow, gravelled 'bit'.

These points really let the park down as in other ways it has so much to offer. The ladies loos and showers looked new but what a shame they didn't actually function properly. I'm sure with more attention to detail, most problems could be sorted out quickly and cheaply.

The camp fees are expensive here but there is a lot of activities on offer. On a positive note, I loved the sheer variety of campers enjoying the site - from little tents to motorhomes, everyone was absolutely lovely - a real friendly, family-loving bunch of very brave, weather-battered campers!

Have just returned from a great holiday at River dart. Despite arriving to find that the Picnic meadow [which I booked] was not open until the school hols [except at the weekends], we were given by the site manager a great pitch at the top of riverside, slightly away from the last official pitch. He called it 77a.

They were so helpful, the site is spotless, showers boiling, freezers for ice packs in the laundry room, covered washing up,so much to do we hardly left the site other than to do a mini tour of Dartmoor.

The more adventurous activities were only available on sunday and were very popular, especially the new High ropes course. There was a long queue but we returned at the end of the day and the queue had shrunk a lot. Save some money if your kids like these activities because you do pay separately but that is made clear on the website.

There was a lovely mix of people from all over europe. We will return, the kids want to go with another family next time so they can have even more fun. Good luck to anyone else going over the summer, we loved it and hope you do too.

As a rule we try and get at least one weekend in fairly local before our two week camp in the summer. Due to space restrictions in the car and a new family member (Pringles the German Shepherd puppy!) We were forced to consider somewhere local so that we could make two trips to get the tribe to the site along with all the gear!.

We chose River Dart as the pictures we had seen on the internet promised somewhere the kids would love and they accept well behaved dogs (Pringles decided to play ball so we may even be allowed back).

The site is a beautiful setting, mature woodland and gently sloping grass areas. The first pitch we were allocated had suffered from the rains of last year and was deeply rutted with sun baked hard mud, obviously a non starter in a tent!

The friendly staff were brilliant and immediately set us up on a site on the “Village Green”. The pitch was simply massive. It swallowed our Kura 800 with ease, we could have set up four more tents on our pitch! There are, as I said, gentle slopes to consider when you pitch but nothing that would cause a serious headache. The only drawback was the distance to the nearest hook up point for the electric, but the Warden Staff were again brilliant and located an extension for me within minutes (£30 deposit refundable in full on departure).

As we were only there for a short weekend break we took most of our food with us, which is a bonus as the shop is half filled with trinkets and cheap toys and has hardly nothing in the way of serious supplies (We were there out of the “High” season so it is possible more and better stock is bought in for the summer). With that said Ashburton is a short five minute drive and there is an abundance of local retailers selling top quality supplies for your Barbie!, they also close at 1700 and did not sell alcohol or tobacco.

The bar and restaurant served well priced and tasty food, but closed early evening for some reason (this again could be due to low season but something to consider querying when you book)

The amenities are acceptable, the site can’t have been ten percent full for our weekend and there was an obvious lack of queuing, I can see how this would be the opposite at peak season, however the Site will benefit from refitted, modernised and extended blocks during this year (work was underway as we departed). Toilets and showers were clean and hot water plentiful.

As far as activities on site…. Take plenty of towels! The lakes provide hours of fun for the kids, especially the main lake with the Pirate Ship, totally surrounded by water and with a narrow plank bridge if the grown ups fancy taking a look around!

The woods also hide a fort and several play area’s. Wetsuits and booties are an absolute must for the kids (and the odd grown up who fancies a dip!) and consider your own dinghy as well, our kids loved storming the pirate ship from their own boat, and the ship has a couple of handy boarding holes at water level for just that very thing.

The additional activities are also good value for money, the high wire course looked like fun, sadly three of us had visited “Go Ape” a few weeks previously so only the boy tried it and his verdict was fun, but not as good. We booked Zorbing but didn’t manage to get around to it as the giant balls were breaking, however the staff from the site gave full, no quibble refunds on any tokens returned.

All in all the setting is wonderful, the activities for the youngsters enough to have them arguing about what to do next, but don’t expect to much for the adults and check your pitch before unloading. We will certainly consider it for a short “Holi-Trip” before our main holiday next year!.

Lovely place to stay, we camped there during the very last weekend of the season (end sept). A large group of us met there for a friends birthday it was lovely, even though not everything was open being end of season such as the canoeing, climbing wall pool etc, and the shop didn't have much stock but we were readily prepared for that, there was still enough activities to keep us occupied such as the the assult course in the woods (so much fun and free too!)

Toilet/shower block not the best in the world, but it was a busy place, and staff chose such an awkward time to come and clean (1st thing in the morning on leaving day!) so there was a big queue by the time they were done!

We have since been back there for a charity fun day as its only and hour or so away, and it made us think about booking another camping trip there in the summer!

We loved it here. We booked without really studying the site plan and we were very fortunate with are pitch which was in a lovely location and absoulutely huge. I thought there was loads to do both free and things to pay for although reasonably prices. It is a place that covers all age groups.

The area is great with lots of other places to visit close by if that's what you want to do.

The cafe was good, the shop ok and I was really impressed with facilities. There are plenty of showers, toilets etc and they were constantly cleaned by an army of people and then appeared to be checked by someone else. It rained a lot whilst we were there but other than grass which no one could help they were spotless.

A couple of recommendations, wetsuits for little ones as water activities are abundant and beach shoes for everyone going in the lake.
