Really well laid out site-although there were a lot of people on the site you didn't feel overwhelmed and the pitches were well screened and private. Toilet blocks were very good-20p bought a good hot shower. Only one problem-when I used the showers in the lower toilet block-shower did not turn on when meter started-could not work out which was hot and cold- had very bracing cold shower. Always very clean. Washing machine and drier-freezer for your freezer blocks.Shop well stocked with food and basic camping items you might have forgotten-not too expensive either.Friendly helpful owners.Quite a steep but pretty walk down past the river into Lyme Regis. You can walk back up the road if you want (also steep). Lyme Regis is a lovely little old-fashioned Seaside town well kept-nice beach and everything else you could want.Ate at the Clock House pub in Chideok-very nice food and good service at a good price.

We spent three nights (23rd, 24th and 25th) at Hook Farm and despite some inclement weather and water retention on nearby pitches it was an enjoyable and relaxing break.

The facilities were good, clean and to an acceptable standard. The only blemish was the lack of hot water in the showers. However, the owners did explain that during busy periods when demand was at its greatest, then this put considerable pressure on hot water supplies.

The shop was slightly overpriced but pretty well stocked. The local pub (Talbot Arms) was welcoming and friendly and very reasonably priced, particularly soft drinks e.G. Lemonade and a packet of peanuts.

The highlight was the walk between Uplyme and Lyme Regis which consisted of rows of pretty cottages with charm and character and a walk through woods, fields and idyllic countryside. Local attractions - Lyme Regis, Charmouth (fossil hunting), Branscombe Bay, Seaton (The Terrace Arts Cafe - vegetarian/vegan), Sidmouth and Ladram Bay.

Overall the campsite was unpretentious, unassuming and there was no noise pollution and the patrons were very well behaved and polite and friendly. We would recommend this campsite to anyone planning on staying in this location.

We booked Hook farm after seeing the reviews posted on the web site and we weren't disappointed. The welcome and the site was great.

I would agree with other comments posted about the ground being quite stony, but this wasn't a problem for us as the weather was great.

I'm sure we will go back but next time I would request a spot away from the kids play area as we were right next to it and although well behaved the kids ran around the tent and got a bit close to our cooker a couple of times!

Not a criticism just an observation.

The recommended walk along the river into Lyme Regis was beautiful well worth doing.

I would recommend a little Tapas restaurant up Lyme High Street called Sotano's I think, the service and the food were fantastic I can still taste the Morroccan lamb.

We can endorse all the previous positive comments - this is a lovely site in a great location.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of June, with our campervan and awning. Apart from some rain at night, the weather was kind, which always helps. Access to the site is along a fairly narrow lane, which may explain why, at least when we were there, most campers seemed to be in tents or motorhomes rather than large caravans. On arrival we were shown to our pitch (with electric) and shown where the toilets, water points and so on are. Staff on site were very helpful, also providing us with a map of Lyme Regis and suggesting where (and where not) to eat.

The terraced and landscaped layout of the site is very pleasant and ensures a good degree of privacy between pitches. Pitch sizes seemed to vary; ours was only just large enough for our van and awning, but as we were surrounding by hedging that was okay. The ground is quite stony, so we bent a few tent pegs!

There are two toilet blocks. The one we used was large and always clean. I'm sure the other block is the same. Showers are on a 20p meter, which gives more than ample time. Good pressure and the water was always warm.

Reception includes a shop that's well stocked with basic groceries and camping requirements, and also lots of information about the area.

The walk into Lyme Regis takes about 40 minutes at a leisurely pace and follows a pleasant riverside route across various terrain, including woodland, open meadow and paved paths. Parts of the route are a bit uneven and could be slippery when wet, so appropriate footwear recommended. We never quite got to grips with the bus timetable, but you can get a bus into town from the post office in Uplyme, and from Lyme Regis a bus runs along the coast in both directions.

Some food recommendations. In Lyme, the Lyme's Fish Bar (just at the end of the walk into town) does good fish and chips and has a small eat-in area. Jalitos deli in Broad Street is good for picnics. Town Mill Bakery has lovely bread and is a good place for breakfast and lunch. The wet fish shop just back from the Cobb has excellent fresh fish for the barbecue. Just a word of warning - a lot of food places in Lyme seem to close on a Monday! Outside the town, we found the Barrel of Beer pub in Beer served good seafood, and the River Café Canteen in Axminster was excellent and surprisingly good value, especially at lunchtime. There is a pub in Uplyme just a 5 minute walk away, but its opening and food serving times seem to be a bit hit and miss. The post office in Uplyme is good for basic provisions too.

We thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful, well-located site and would definitely choose it again if visiting the area.

Stayed at this wonderful site on the 19th,20th and 21st June 2009 and we would definitely go back. We are a couple with two dogs and we were joined by a couple of friends.

This site is very friendly and the team couldn't do enough. The pitches are fantastic, we had a terraced pitch by the stream. Plenty of room to put two tents, picnic tables, chairs etc.

All the pitches looked as if they had ample space and very private as high grass or shrubs separate pitches.

The shower/ toilet block / washing up area was always clean and even though you pay 20p for a 5 minute shower, the time was ample.

The dog walking orchard was great for our two dogs and allowed them to be off lead. It wasn't really suitable as an exercise area ie throwing balls etc but as we had been out exploring all day it was perfect for early morning toilet trips and before bedtime. It was really clean and it appears that all owners clean up any mess as we didn't see any.

You can catch a Bus into Lyme Regis from down by the pub (only a five minute walk down hill from site)and dogs can go on the bus too, but the coastal walk into Lyme Regis is lovely. The camp shop had most things we needed but for any additional there is a local store a few minutes away (down hill near to the pub).

We had a wonderful weekend and we would definitely return. Slightly more expensive than other sites we researched but well worth it in our opinion.

Excellent site, once you've got up the narrow lane to enter. It isn't actually that bad!

Pitches are flatish and all at different levels, so makes the outlook better.

Very pleasant ablutions blocks and the 20p charge for the showere is fine, with plenty of time for a quick wash down.

We will be back.

Having just spent the weekend at Hook Farm I was extremely impressed. The staff were very polite and helpful, the facilities were very clean and there was never a queue. My only moan would be the ground is so hard you can put tent pegs in. Overall 10/10.

Thanks to the recommendations on this website we stayed at this site for the weekend and liked it very much. Very friendly welcome which seemed to permeate through to the campers making the whole site a smiley place. We had a good sized level pitch and when the sea-mist cleared there was a lovely view of Dorset farmland. The showers were well worth the 20p for 5 mins and always clean. Swallows were nesting in the roof so they approved too. Would definitely recommend this site for all, families, couples and singles.

This was our first camping holiday of the 2009 season, our fifth such adventure so we are still fairly new to camping. We booked in for 4 nights with EHU.

The site is in a beautiful, hilly part of Dorset, so all the pitches are terraced making it an attractive site with lovely views of the valley.

Our welcome was friendly and we were shown to our pitch by Adrian running ahead of us. They do this all the time and must be very fit running up and down the hill! We had to pitch in the pouring rain but the weather had cleared up by lunch time the next day and was glorious for the rest of our break.

We had a huge pitch which our son loved and he also enjoyed the play area which was small but the children seemed to enjoy it as far as we could tell - especially the boat.

The toilets & showers were clean the whole time we were there however when I used the shower it was cold.

There is a lovely walk down into Lyme Regis which our son managed quite happily and after clambering over rocks on the beach he walked all the way back with only one or two complaints of tired legs. However as soon as we were back at the site he was off into the play area!

Apart from the cold shower I can't find anything to criticise about this site - it was well managed and Adrian kept a watchful eye over the site whilst not being intrusive but happy to chat if there was time.

We will definitely be coming back here again.

We were pleased to get a spot when we arrived without booking on Saturday night and it was very spacious. We agree that restricted lighting and quiet time are a great asset to the site and well observed.
Would say that we did feel very overlooked and felt like we were intruding on others due to proximity and split levels of some of the pitches. Also we may have been unlucky but we only managed to knock in one or two pegs all the way as encountered a lot of rocks, wished we had brought the sturdier pegs luckily wasn't very windy.
