We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at riverside camp site. It is set in lovely surroundings considering its location.

Very easy to get into plymouth which there is plenty to see and do.

Showers and toilets were always clean, plenty of hot water.

The grounds were always tidy and staff were very friendly.

Children enjoyed the park and the swimming pool was a great hit.

Would definitely go back again.

Just returned from a week's stay at Riverside and were sadly disappointed.

There was no dog exercising area even though I had rung prior to booking our holiday to check that there was. Dogs must be exercised offsite.

After arriving at lunchtime we were surprised to find the camp shop didn't even sell bread so wouldn't recommend arriving without a trip to nearby Sainsburys.

We were appalled to find only 3 fire extinguishers on site that were not condemned!

The play area was fine for our 6 year old but frankly unusable for our 2 year old and also not fully fenced off even though situated alongside the entrance road to the site.

The swimming pool was one of the main selling points of the site and we were unhappy to find the main pool was icy cold and not filtered. After questioning staff we were told first time that it was on and we couldn't expect it to be hot. When we asked a second time we were told that they had run out of gas for the pool but it was now sorted. The pool was still not working when we left.

Their claims to being a 'quiet, secluded site' were laughable as the nights were backed by noise from the road, rail and airport.

Showers and toilets were basic but clean. Would recommend they invest in better bins as every morning we were greeted by rubbish strewn all over toilet block area by animals/birds.

This was mine and jacobs first proper camping experience. We had to go to Plymouth to pick up a new car so decided to lug the tent down on the train. Picked up the car and stumbled upon this site. We arrived in rain, reception staff were very friendly and within a few minutes we had our pitch (21 for the night) which was level and under a tree. The site is tranquil and had a friendly feel. The shower block was basic and could probably do with modernising but the showers were warm and reasonably clean.

We popped in to Plymouth and had the best faggots, chips and peas known to man! (Barbican fish bar.Try it!) we returned to the site and jacob went to the games room while I had a beer. There was Bingo going on which seemed fun and everyone was having a good time. The staff were friendly and bar prices good. We were going to stay another night but, when I returned from the shower in the morning, the rain was so bad the tent began to leak! So we decided to pack up.

Overall, for a first experience albeit just one night, we had a good time and if I were down that way again I would go back.

A very well kept site with level pitches and good shelter for the tents.

Has an outside play area for the kids as well as an indoor room. TV room restaurant and bar. Don't expect gourmet but prices reflect this and are very reasonable. A great pool area although advertised as heated it was freezing!

The shower block was ok but showers never really made it to hot. Very good washing up and Laundry area.

With a big supermarket a 5 minute drive this site is well worth it to explore Plymouth and surrounding countryside. Owner has embarked upon an ambitious chalet building scheme so half the site seems lost to tents and vans but cannot knock the half that is left at all.

Kids loved it and we would definitely return.

When we stayed the site was nearly full. Access is easy (We are novices). The staff were friendly. There is a pool and a bar with food available but we did not use them so cannot comment. The shower blocks were cleaned once a day and were OK but tired and in need of a revamp

The site is a couple of miles outside the centre. If you do not want to use your car there is a park and ride nearby but we used the normal bus stop which is closer (turn right at the end of the approach road and walk up the hill a short way) Frequent bus service to Plymouth city centre. Handy for Sainsburys and there is a Somerfield in the Texaco garage as you travel towards Plympton for papers food etc before Sainsburys opens on a Sunday morning.

There is a McDonalds on the road to Plympton as you exit the big roundabout off the A38 flyover. Platters on the Barbican near the Mayflower steps is worth a visit if you like sea food. You can have anything from fish chips and mushy peas to more expensive dishes (like scallops provencale as recommended by Andrew Lloyd-Webber who is a regular visitor when one of his shows is being staged at the Theatre Royal). The Theatre Royal puts on some top notch shows. There is the Plymouth Aquarium, a multiplex cinema, boat trips and Dartmoor is on the doorstep. The Barbican has loads of bars and some of them put on live music during the spring/summer.

Riverside is an ideal base for touring the surrounding area and we would definitely stay there again.

Located in a beautiful piece of countryside which is wonderful considering you are almost in the heart of Plymouth. Probably suited to the more ' mature ' campers and not a lot going on for little ones.
There is a seasonal pool and club house and if you like sports then you can go cockroach stomping in the toilets at night ;0) Basic shower / toilet block and washing facilities. Not the cheapest of campsites and if you happen to be a single male camper then don't expect a warm welcome, in fact, you wont be welcomed at all. Fairly strict campsite and not overly welcoming. Not a campsite I will be returning to I'm afraid. Ideal stop over if you need to be central to Plymouth though and all the nightlife and shopping.
