Once again, very satisfying camping experience, weather was nice a tiny bit more midges than in may but fine really. 100% go back, the site has stunning views tidy and clean, ok staff, pets welcome. Fantastic base for visiting the west coast and its islands. Local town of Oban only under 3 miles away. Campsite has nice shop, tv room with pool table, and a few games machines, notice board of where to go and what to do. Overall very happy with this site, be back soon.

This was about our 4th or 5th stay on this site, as it's handy as a stop-off overnight for the ferries or travelling further North. We stayed 2 nights this time, to unwind from our day's travelling from Lancashire, and so I could visit the Coliseum-like folly up on the hill overlooking Oban - well worth a visit!

The site itself was quiet - unlike last year, as the Scottish school holidays hadn't started, so we had plenty of spaces to choose where to pitch, and no queues for showers. As other people have said, there needs to be more showers for busy times of the year - two are insufficient. I wouldn't come here during any school holidays as I hate crowded campsites with insufficient facilities, also last year the hot water for washing up ran out - but plenty this time.

Oban is really easy to drive into either along the coastal road - or the back way along a narrow lane and through a gate and over a railway bridge, which brings you down to the Lidl and Tesco supermarkets on the outskirts. Energetic people could walk it, but that's not for me!

Pros

Beautiful views across the water from certain pitches

Close enough to Oban to walk in and easy enough to get a taxi back (around 7 quid one way).

Cons

Needs more showers in block by reception, very basic.

Road to site is narrow, fine if like us you have a small unit but potentially a pain for larger outfits

Additional comments

Paid 16 pounds for electrical hook-up (two adults), which is good. You cannot book and just turn up and take your chance. Fine at certain times of year but in high holiday season you might want a back up arrangement. Taking into account we only stayed a single night the initial impression of the site would not make us rush back. It was not particularly welcoming and basic facilities left more of an impression that the views on offer from certain pitches.

First time in a motorhome and we found the hardstanding level site and all the facilities to be very good. Toilets, showers and services for the motor home all great.

We booked a couple of weeks in advance for 2 nights but with so much to do from Oban on the ferry we should have made it 4. Manager /warden very helpful and friendly

The walk into Oban took a good 45 mins but the taxi back was only 5.

This we a lovely quiet location in the countryside.

The acid test, would you go back? Answer yes

The site is two miles from the town centre up a single track road along the water side.

We stayed there two separate nights punctuated by visits to the islands of Mull, Coll & Tiree. The site is in easy reach of the ferry terminal by car or cycle.

On the first night there had been lots of rain and the field was boggy. It was difficult to find a spot which was either not seriously damp or not on a slope.

The toilet/ shower block is basic but functional and clean. Whilst we were there, there were very few people but I would imagine the toilet/ showers not being able to cope with a full site.

On the next night about 3 days later the main field was closed and a small field was being used over the road. This site was too cramped for the number of tents and with the weather it was rapidly turning into mud in places. Cars could not go into the field so gear had to be carried across through a very muddy car park for which you needed wellies. Also, the toilets were a bit of a hike, again through the mud.

To be fair, the site cannot be blamed for the weather however for the price they were charging and the size and condition of the toilet / showers it did not seem good value.

Super views across the water to Kerrera, and up to the hills around the site. Very quiet, at the end of a single track road out of Oban. Does not take bookings - you can only check there is room and hope. Relaxed attitude to pitching, pick your own site (areas designated for tents only, or for motorhomes and caravans only), but it did mean some inconsiderate parking. (For example, one of the motorhome hardstandings with 6 electric sockets was taken up by just two motorhomes in a way that meant no-one else could pitch there, which meant another motorhome had to be pushed off their grass pitch due to the amount of rain that fell. In another example, a huge caravan set up right beside a tiny motorhome when the rest of the field was empty.) There did always seem to be a queue for the showers, but the dog walk in the oak woods was excellent.

Day trip to Mull is essential, get ferry and the wee train and entry to Torosay Castle all in one ticket. It's 4 pounds in the all-day carpark by the quay or free to park by the sports pavilion at the north end of town (but a 20 mins walk).
