Lovely site location for peace & quiet and an authentic experience of a Hebridean croft.
Friendly owners went out of their way to accommodate us when we arrived near midnight following an extended ferry journey. Home baking and local knowledge were greatly appreciated too.
There are no frills on this site to distract you from all that is beautiful about Barra - that's its charm. Would recommend this unspoilt little haven - our visit was all too short!

The site is ideally situated for a quiet break and is more than adequate for those with their own facilities. Sand and sea are within a very short walk and our dogs loved it. They had daily walks and swims in the clear water. We even saw seals from the beach. The view from the site is amazing - sea, land and wildlife what more can you want!
The owners are very friendly, helpful and informative.
On the ferry home we already wanted to go back to Croft 2!

We stayed at this campsite for a week and loved the location. It's virtually at the end of the road & looks out over a stunning beach, accross the Sound of Barra towards Eriskay. We watched dolphins from our caravan window! The nearest shop we found was in Castlebay so stock up! The owners are friendly & helpful. The pitches are 'freelance' (park/camp where you find a space) We'd stay here again without hesitation but without a toilet block when we stayed you need to be self contained, though this may change. Cycling, wildlife, walking all from the site. Wonderful.

Small campsite on northern tip of Barra. Quiet peaceful area of croft set aside for five pitches. EHU but need own loo facilities
Setting wonderful - opposite perfect white cockle shell and sand beach. A couple of bays along the planes land on the beach as a scheduled Flybe service
Owners friendly and informative about island crofting life. Their two sons very friendly particularly the inquisitive youngest, Seamus, as they meet a regular turnover of visitors
Very peaceful, the loudest sound being corn crakes - heard but not seen!

Had fifteen nights in June on this very quiet site. Booked nine then extended our stay to fifteen.
The site is run by owners Angus and Mary. Mary greeted us late on Sunday evening, as we had arrived by the Oban to Castlebay ferry, then driving the full length of the island, passing the airport, en route, to the site.
If you like the bright lights, noisy, fish and chip suppers, and wild nights out. Then this site is definitely, not, the site for you.
The brightest light we witnessed was the sun well into late evening. The noisy, corncrakes in the next field, the gannets and oyster-catchers also have a lot to say. Fresh fish, go direct to the local fish processors then supply you own chips. Wild nights, not on this site. Wild-life, definitely, just keep your eyes open.
At a very reasonable, £12 per pitch a night, with electric.
This basic site has drinking water, electric hook-up points, chemical disposal point, and Fantastic views over the turquoise waters of Barra sound and a long, long white sandy beach, only minutes away.
Our Yorkshire terriers loved running up and down the deserted beach.
Barra is definitely the jewel in the crown of the Western Isles and Croft no. 2 caravan site is definitely to be recommended.
Places to visit include Queen Victoria rock. A colony of seals at seal bay. Vatersay, a small island to the south of Castlebay, accessed via a causeway. Many dog friendly beaches allowing excellent walking.
Would I recommend this site? Definitely not (or I may not be able to book in, next year).
OK. Of course, I would highly recommend this site.

White sands, turquoise sea, wheatears and goldfinches in abundance and that's just the view from the caravan window. Corncrakes to be seen.
Basic 5 van site with hookups etc, wonderful beach a couple of minutes away. Owners very welcoming and generous with local knowledge and island history.
Home baking for the campers was very welcome and delicious. Freshly caught fish and seafood at excellent prices available from fish factory a few minutes drive away.
Best site we stayed on in the Hebrides. Interesting airport in the next bay - planes land and take off on the beach. Would like to return in July when the machar is in full bloom.
