About 40 emplacements. Some are very big. The 'services' block is about twenty years old and meticulously cleaned. 5 loos (turkish, bowl without seats and bowl with seats. So 'chaque un son gout'!), bring your own paper, four showers which are one euro token operated if you want a hot one. Plenty of 'private' washing cubicles as well as a communal wash basin area. Washing up basins and laundry basins (plenty). Very hot water for all basins. I have waited once for five minutes for a shower (over ten days). Just chose the wrong time!
The layout of the site is delightful. All grass pitches. Plenty of shade, or unshaded if you wish.
Situated, beautifully, between the Garonne canal on one side and the river Garonne on the other. The canal side is a small 'port' with steps from the campsite up to the port's main quay and port office where you can sit and have a beer/coffee/wine as you watch the traffic (boats or bikes) go by. The port master is english. He and his wife provide a super service. And there is WIFI at a euro a day!
Alongside the canal is the Garonne veu verte cycle path. All the way to Toulouse, one way, and towards Bordeaux, the other. With lots of side tracks too. Then there's the boating. If you don't have your own there's canoe hire locally.
For us, it's heaven, as we have bikes and inflatable kayaks. Lovely little village is within 5 mins walk. Enjoyed the village street party. Music and food till late in the main square.
Marmande is 12 kms away with good rail link to Toulouse if you want a day's trip, and also provides good shopping.
No swimming pool. But there is a river. No restaurant or shop on the site, but the port office bar is twenty five steps away and the Bar/Restaurant 'La Gargouille' is fifty metres from the campsite and is beautifully set on the banks of the river, we didn't eat there but had drinks/coffee every night.
The 'Gens De Garonne' site is absolutely fascinating and shows how they cope with major flooding in the beautiful village of Couthures-sur-Garonne. Five miles away.
And the clincher??. Eight euros a day for 2 people. BEAT THAT!
Where is this jewel: Meilhan sur Garonne.
Anyone beat this for value?
