We stayed here for two nights using my prize from from UKCampsite.co.uk/Camping in the Forest (for a tent review). I wish we could have stayed longer but had work commitments as it was hard to leave in the sunshine.

The ground is hard (when dry) so do take rock pegs and a good mallet; I'm glad we had ours.

The site is deceptively spacious, combining open grassy areas (very close trimmed) with more wooded glades of mighty oaks and other treeage. There is no electricity so you can pitch where you please, allowing for 3-6m between tents. Gazebos are banned during busy times and only allowed at the manager's discretion at others. There's also a rule on the size of windbreaks you can use, which I think is fine as it prevents a Berlin wall effect.

Probably because there is no EHU, tents ruled, which made a pleasant change as often we're outnumbered.

Should you be expecting total tranquillity, remember that the site is near the busy A35 and also bordered by a railway line, so there is some traffic noise at times. As well as from owls and other lovely natural things.

The site is really keen on recycling and saving water - there are even bins for BBQ coals. With regards to BBQs, charcoal BBQs are allowed provided they are kept off the ground.

The large central facilities block has plenty of toilets and washing cubicles, and these were kept very clean. But, I was surprised at only 6 showers in both men's and the women's sections: too few perhaps for the size of the site.

The 'pot wash' had oodles of hot water which was great.

Be prepared to keep your food - and rubbish - inside your car or risk being raided by ponies and squirrels: a very real risk. We had the boot open for a bit whilst I cooked breakfast and a pony took a bite out of the binbag - whilst another mistook a yellow spoon on our table for something edible. You are given all this information on arrival by the welcoming reception team. That said they are delightful to see, just preferably at a distance!

The site is conveniently situated for many of the area's attractions and for cycling, whilst there is a large and pleasant pub(great beer) just outside the site, with more eateries and shops within walking distance.

Wonderful site, great facilities, highly recommend. The New Forest is a great place to visit and explore. The site is perfectly placed for touring the area. Good pubs nearby, the children made friends and played around the site and were completely content and safe. The facilities were cleaned regularly and hardly ever a queue for the showers. Best of all you can cycle straight from the site into the New Forest.

After looking at nearly at all the New Forest campsites we chose this one for the following reasons:

1. We live East of the Forest and getting to Ashurst would mean less driving for us. It turned out to be very easy to find.

2. My husband doesn't like dogs and this is a dogless site!

3. It appeared from the website to be near civilisation at the entrance and the back opened out onto the Forest. This proved to be so.

Even though we booked well in advance, our Friday night arrival meant that spaces were few and far between and we ended up near the railway line. The site is next to the main line to London and so some trains are long and noisy. I would have probably relocated the tent if we'd been there for more than 3 nights. Other reviewers have pointed out the hard ground - it was like rock in places. Bring the right pegs! Pitch sizes are generous and the campsite, although busy, did not seem over full.

The washing facilities were fine - lots of washing for bodies and plates. Water was always hot.

We took advantage of the bike delivery service from 'Trax' and hired some bikes for a day - it was great riding around the well marked easy trails. The kids managed 15 miles!

The site fronts onto the main Lyndhurst road and is close to two large pubs that both serve food. A small range of takeaways and other shops are just over the railway bridge and Lyndhurst itself is 3 miles down the road. There is a large Morrisons in Totton - about 10 minutes drive from the site.

It would have been great if the site had a small shop though!

There are no 'playground' facilities, but the kids were all just running around playing together anyway.

This site is also one of the closest to Paulton's Park (Peppa Pig World) so may be especially busy because of this. We visited the close by New Forest Wildlife Park - easily cyclable (but we drove!). It was a lovely day out and great for all the family.

Good location for visiting all New Forest attractions. The site itself is picturesque surrounded by woodland with lovely walks. No marked pitches so choose a spot and just ensure you are at least 3m from your neighbour. Pitch in a shady glade or out on the field in the sunshine. The site is between a busy road and the rail track. It is also very popular. So if you prefer absolute tranquillity this will not be for you. No EHUs or site WIFI. Dish washing area is indoors and good. Loos and showers (push button but free) clean and modern. As with most popular sites there were queues for the showers at peak times. Only real minor quibble is the mirrors in the hand basin cubicles were very low due to being positioned below the window. Laundry facilities available but we didn't use them. Friendly and helpful wardens on site. Good Orange mobile phone signal but O2 was patchy. No shop but all basics available a few minutes away in the village centre. Made use of farm shops particularly liked Setley Ridge near Brockenhurst.

We have been to this site many times but this was our first visit in a couple of years so I was keen to see if it was still a great site. Nothing has changed. The staff were friendly, helpful and informative. We arrived after a day of torrential rain and as usual lots of the site was very boggy and not much good for pitching on. It wasn't too busy so we were able to find a nice dry secluded spot but I do wonder how they cope when it is both busy and wet.

The facilities are warm, clean and plentiful. We didn't have to queue for showers and the hot water was plentiful.

The ice cream van visited twice a day, much to my six year old son's delight. No play areas for kids here just direct access to forest and heathland. I hardly saw my son the whole three days we stayed as he was off exploring and meeting new friends.

I love this site and it is only the price that puts me off visiting more often. We got a 33 % off deal which enabled us to stay an extra night but usually I do find it quite dear for a non electric pitch.

This was our first camping trip. We have 2 young daughters and went with 4 other couples.

On arrival it had rained heavily the day before so we did find it difficult trying to find an area that wasn't too boggy to pitch our tents and I must say I was a little confused between the soft or hard Standing options when booking as on arrival it was just pitch where you like, however as we are new to camping this may be something that we soon learn.

The site itself was superb. The horses and ponies were a delight for our girls. The toilets and showers were so clean and just perfect, I liked the fact there was wash basin cubicles too. The washing up area was good too, I was just expecting a tap to fill my own bowl with so that was a bonus.

The wardens were friendly & didn't bother us at all.

The nearby pub was great, family friendly. They had a fun day on whilst we were there which was great for the girls and the nearby chippy was delicious too.

It is right near a station too which we used to go to the beach rather than all taking our cars and fretting about car parking spaces. I didn't find the trains particularly noisy either whilst at the camp.

All in all our first camping trip was a success and we would definitely visit this site again.
