Just want to say that we had a lovely 3 nights at Hook Farm. They even lent me a tent when I forgot to bring my tent poles. Wife was not happy!
All the Hook Farm personnel were friendly and very helpful. The site itself was kept in excellent conditions, everything was clean and in good working order. If I had a minor complaint it would be that in the old shower block the water flow in the showers runs very slowly if more than one shower is in use. I hasten to add that the new shower block is lovely and I'm told that the showers don't have any flow problems.
Our two children had a lovely time playing around the site. The playground, although small, was thoroughly enjoyed.
Lyme Regis is a short walk away which our 4 and 6 year old managed no problem. This gives you the opportunity to leave your car at the site and still enjoy the beach, fish and chips and lots of lovely pubs and restaurants.
A great 3 days. Thank you.

If you are prepared to pay a premium for a campsite that doesn't have large, rowdy groups, then this site is well worth a visit. Adrian and his team work tirelessly to ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay. The pitches are well laid out and the terraces give the site a more intimate feel than a large, flat field.
Some of the facilities could do with updating but they were always kept clean and I never had to queue.
The bus into Lyme was a real bonus and there were so many good places to eat that we left the 'camping chef' at home for our last visit!

Nice enough site, well managed with friendly and helpful staff (although we didn't need the list of rules going through in that much detail). Pleasant walk down to the seafront, if a little mucky after the rain, but would recommend the bus service as it's a very hilly area.
The pitches are fairly level and set up in 'mini fields' giving a cosy feel to the site. Good little play area for the kids. Shower/toilet blocks are very nice and kept clean.
Only gripe is the price. We stopped on 3 other sites on this year's road trip, all with the same level of service and in much better locations and Hook Farm cost around half as much again as any of the others (20p for a 4minute shower as well, that's just cheeky!)
Would certainly go to Lyme Regis again (really good mixed grill at the Cobb Arms) but wouldn't stop at Hook Farm unless they dropped their prices, which is a shame.

We're new to camping and this place was our first introduction to campsites. I have to say that we were very pleased, we loved it.
We arrived and the guy took us to our pitch. My car was fully loaded and there was a smidge of wheel spinning as I drove up to the top field. We had a pitch next to friends as requested. They were there a bit early but still able to pitch.
The shower and toilet block was big clean and great. You pay your 20p for your 4 minutes and I know some people have issues with this but it made the showers turn around quickly without any banging on the doors. I liked this and have not problem with doing this. They we very clean and worth while. Lots of wash basins. There were two dish washing sinks and I'd like to see more if possible but two worked fine.
The playground was small but all the children met here. Ours are 3 and 4 and they loved it. The boat dug into the ground was a great role play area and we spent lots of time playing here.
The walk into town was gorgeous but be aware that if you take a pram you may struggle on parts. We took a wideish one and needed help at times but it was a stunning walk and we'd do it again. We caught the bus back mind
On the wet day we went to Pecorama and loved it. Well worth the entry fee.
All in all we had a great stay and plan to return next year :D

A well managed site staffed by people who understand camping and care about their site and the service they provide.
The initial advice they gave when they took us to the pitch ensured we quickly set out our tent to get the best advantage from the site.
Staff were visible from sunrise to sun set ensuring everything was in order.
The pitch was a good size and well maintained though stony; when I return I will bring pegs that can cope with the stones.
This was our return to English camping after many years camping abroad - this site sets a standard.

All in all we enjoyed this site, and especially the area. There were great bits and some that we weren't too happy about, but we would return.
What we liked:
The area. It’s only 8 minutes by bus or 40 minutes’ walk into Lyme, which is a lovely seaside town with lots to do. The campsite is dark at night, so it’s great for stargazing or just daydreaming.
The local pub Talbot Arms is a real bonus, with welcoming owners and a lovely garden. They do lots of events – there was an ale festival while we were there, and early September they are doing a St Patrick’s party which sounds fun.
The showers are hot and powerful, and the cubicles are big enough to get dressed in. The 20p gives you long enough and keeps queues to a minimum; despite it being full, I only queued once, for 5 mins. NB there’s a hairdryer that seems OK, again using 20p.
Fellow campers were respectful and a happy lot, and cleared up after themselves in the loos & at the washing up stations. It was the ‘happiest’ campsite we’ve been on despite the weather; nobody was excessively loud, no music, just people getting along.
Nice camp shop and happy wardens. Yes they read out the rules as you arrive but it seems to keep everyone in check.
What we were not overly keen on:
Our pitch was just big enough for our tent, which is a relatively small Nevada M. In fact, it was so close to the access road that we couldn’t use our porch flaps/front entrance. There seem to be a variety of pitch sizes and they allocate to the size of tent when you book: Some pitches, by comparison, were massive, but the littler tents seemed to get the raw deals with 'verge side' pitches. It made a negative difference to us because it rained constantly while we were there and not being able to use the porch to sit under to cook was miserable. I’d probably lie about my tent size if I booked again.
The pitch also waterlogged, as did many that we saw. Mind you, it was unusually rainy.
There are only 2 washing up sinks, so big queues all the time.
No crackle logs / BBQ logs, only coals. This seemed a little strange, as they are more environmentally friendly and make less mess, but hey ho. On the plus side, you can put your BBQ on the bricks provided and effectively have a camp fire without breaking 'the rules'.
The location of this site and the fact that it attracted middle-class ‘nice’ people (yes, I am a snob! No growling dogs, chavvy groups or drunk teenagers here!) mean I would probably go back and would definitely recommend it.

Excellent site in a picturesque setting. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Showers are spotless and cost 20p for four minutes. Our pitch was very private and had excellent views across the valley.
The dog walk was very good and lots of walks were close by. The walk into Lyme took 45 minutes by the river.
The local pub doesn't allow dogs but we were lucky with the weather and had our food in the beer garden. The local village shop sells most things.

Sadly my 2012 weather report continues with lots of rain! We stayed on pitch 6, which was near the lower toilet blocks and this one seemed to have a stream running through it, although the amount of rain was unbelievable!
The owners were very keen on rules, and made you listen to and agree with them before entering, but that was fine as it was a well run and ordered site. The site is terraced and on a steep hill, but is very spacious with plenty of space for the kids to run around in. Our pitch was next to the wood and stream and the kids found some great friends, and they spent most of their time in there! The toilet block is OK, but a bit dated and needs a good clean as it is well inhabited by the largest spiders you have ever seen!
The sites’ location is perfect in Uplyme, it’s a 30 minute or so walk by the river to Lyme Regis, although it was too wet to do it we met some people who had, and it was very picturesque. We spent quite a bit of time in Lyme Regis and it is lovely. We did a fossil walk organised through the museum, which was well worth doing as we found loads of stuff! We also went for lunch in Mill Cafe which is well worth a visit, as well as a walk to the undercliff.
We will definitely be back, hopefully when it is drier!

A well managed campsite with so many rules that they give you a piece of paper with them all written down, most of which are fairly common sense and shouldn't require detailing anyway. You will be escorted to your pitch and shown where to park. The pitches are level, free draining and set on a terraced slope. Toilets etc are spotless and there is a shop on site.
It is a 45 min walk down by the River Lyme into the town, pleasant enough although muddy in places after the recent flooding. Lyme Regis is a lovely place to spend the day and there is plenty to do and see.
The pub at the end of the road, The Talbot, is OK. Not fantastic, not poor, just OK for food and a beer.
I would recommend this site only because of its proximity to Lyme Regis. I thought that £18 for two adults and a small tent was rather expensive. I was not impressed by the additional 20p shower charge. This was made worse by the fact that 20p bought 4. 0 minutes in the gents but you get 5. 5 minutes in the ladies! Unbelievable. I'm sure this must break some EU sexual equality legislation somewhere, if only I could be bothered.

We found Hook Farm campsite by browsing through an old Camping book, followed up by checking their own website and reading the reviews. Had to be booked and we went there for the Jubilee weekend in June 2012 and were not disappointed.
The site is sloped/tiered although all the pitches are quite flat, we were given a lovely secluded pitch on the right and our tier was shared by one other tent, they had to park in the car park and had their own path down to their tent so hardly walked passed us. We did not have electric hook up but the 2 tents below us did. We had wonderful views over the campsite and beyond and you do not hear any road noise which for us is bliss.
There are two blocks of showers, the one nearest us appeared to be older than the one up the top of the site, this was much larger and more modern although could not complain, always clean although you do need 20p for a shower which gives you just under 5 minutes more in the modern block! The hairdryer also requires a 20p per use.
The staff are really friendly, the little shop sells essentials; you can also buy fresh each morning bread, croissants and Danish pastries. The site is well kept and clean. Also very quiet.
Plenty to do as Torbay is only an hour’s drive away. You can walk into Lyme Regis either down the hill or take the walk following the river; this is accessed by walking down the road to the right of the pub and following the public footway, lovely scenery and takes about 40 minutes. The walk back via the road is extremely steep you may want to get the Tukxi (taxi) back to the campsite. You will see the Tukxi driving around Lyme Regis, a great experience; the driver is great, a true one off taxi ride.
Overall very impressed and will be returning in 2013. Happy Camping.
