A welcome return to Karrageen - I enjoyed my first visit in 2013 and it seemed even better on return. I was camping with another friend who was due to turn up later in the day with her tent, so when I checked in the owner recommended one of the smaller terraces where we would be the only ones. It was very thoughtful and the terrace was wonderful. It was great to have our own space.

I had a dog with me and was recommended the top field for walking him in. The views are great from up there and there was plenty of room for him to sniff around.

The shower and washing up areas were immaculate and I never had to queue for a shower. There was plenty of hot water too.

The site is ideally located for walking along the coast - we did plenty of walking over the weekend.

As it was late in the year, we asked whether we could leave our tents up on the final day while we went for a walk, giving them time to dry out from the night's dew. The owner couldn't have been more accommodating, telling us (and other campers) that there was no rush to leave the site. This was much appreciated, meaning that our tents were dry when we packed them away.

I would definitely return to this site. It is well-run, well-maintained and welcoming - and a great location.

We are just back from a lovely 6 night stay at Karrageen (tent plus 2 adults and daughter (age 7)).

We were greeted on arrival by Nikki who checked us in, gave us a map of the site, with our pitch and other key areas marked out and some local information booklets - very welcome and useful. We also put in our order for fresh breakfast croissants and pain au chocolat. An order that was repeated every morning, as they were delicious!

Our allocated pitch was in a lovely location on the 1st terrace, with great views and with enough space for our long tunnel tent + car and lots of safe (pretty much traffic free) open grass space in front of the pitch for our daughter to run/cycle about. I really liked the fact that there is only one main laid out 'road' through the site, so cars otherwise have to make their way with real care along the field using the hedge lines to reach tents, avoiding the children playing, rather than the children having to avoid them!

Our daughter made friends with some neighbouring children within minutes of arrival and we felt immediately happy for her to go off and play safely, while we got on and pitched the tent. We met several lovely and friendly neighbouring families from various areas of the UK and EU and our daughter made several friends over the following days, and even swapped addresses with one girl, who she will hopefully stay in touch with!

The whole stay was very relaxed, we enjoyed several evenings with our BBQ (and then invited the neighbours and their children to toast marshmallows, which was great!) watching the sunset and then the amazing starry sky. It was lovely and peaceful at night (the only noises being from the wildlife, including one very vocal owl, oh and the wind on the 2 nights it was really howling up the valley!) - we very much appreciated and respected the 10pm quiet curfew, as did 99% of the other campers, which was great (and somewhat unusual from past experiences on other sites).

The site was well maintained and although full, didn't seem busy at all.

The shower block was very clean, the showers hot and we didn't begrudge the 20p's as it really did mean we never had to wait for the facilities.

'Mr Phil' came round each morning to check all was well with each and every camper and made sure we didn't feel rushed to leave on our last day which was very much appreciated with the unpredictable weather we had (we just got the tent down before the rain appeared again).

The local beaches were all great - we ran out of days to visit them all. Favourites were Hope Cove (for the surfing and sunsets) and South Milton (as it's National Trust and has great rock pools, views, good sand and safe swimming, as well as free parking and a fab Beachhouse eatery!) - pity we only discovered it on our last day!

Overall, we felt this was the best site we've stayed on over our 3 seasons of camping and definitely one we will definitely return to.

Thanks for a great holiday Phil and Nikki - keep doing what you're doing!

Just had a great 10 days at this lovely campsite. It's in a good location about a mile in land from the picturesque village of Hope Cove - and is handily placed for visiting Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth etc. There's a nice little beach in Hope Cove and a decent choice of places to eat and drink as well as a post office/general store.

The site is kept very clean and even though quite busy both weekends we were there it never felt crowded. Toilet block very modern and always immaculate. There are 2 freezers for ice packs - a real boon when the weather is hot as it was every day we were there.

A real luxury is having fresh bread and croissants baked on site every morning. Be sure to try the bloomer - delicious!

There really isn't anything negative to say about this site and we'd definitely stay again if in Devon.

We had a week at Karrageen over the half term. We travelled as a family of 4 plus 2 dogs, children aged 11 and 10.

On arrival we were greeted by the owners who booked us in quickly and efficiently and showed us to our pitch.

I have nothing negative to say about this site, other than the owners' dodgy sense of humour! Yes, the site is on a bit of a slope and if you are pitched at the bottom of the field like us it is a bit of a steep climb to the toilet block. The small but well stocked shop is great for the odds and sods that you might need. The pitches have plenty of space, no one is crammed in too tightly and the over all laid back approach on the site is evident.

There are no playgrounds or clubhouse and this is what I love about a site like this; kids playing football and rounders and generally going back to basics!

Toilets block - yes you have to pay for a shower but I personally have no issue with this and everything was spotless and the water always warm.

I would highly recommend this site!

Just back from a 10 night stay at Karrageen with our 2 border terriers. The site is in a beautiful location with good views. Access to the site is down a very narrow road which was fine for us as we were in a car with a tent. The owner was pleasant and helpful and we had a nice level pitch. The site has a shop and modern shower block, however all hot water is metered except for the handbasins. As such you need to take a good stock of 20p pieces with you. The showers are electric and are not very powerful so you need more 20ps as a result. We find paying as you go for showers and washing hot water a pain and would much rather pay for this in the tariff. The water on occasions was cold which was also a nuisance. When we told the owner about the cold water, he didn't seem that interested. The site only takes cash which again was a bit of a pain. Despite these points, we and our dogs were made to feel very welcome at the site. The site operates an over 50s discount tariff which we took advantage of. The area is absolutely lovely with fantastic coastal walking and a great pub for food called the Sloop Inn at Bantham.

We camped here over the August bank holiday for 8 days.

The site was on a slope, but the pitches were level.

Toilet blocks were lovely, but busy at peak times (to be expected at any campsite)

The family shower room was lovely (we have a 3yr old), but would have liked more than one, as this was very popular for families and at times had to wait.

There are 2 chest freezers for ice blocks (free) in the washing up block with a selection of books to borrow.

There are also a couple of washing machines and a tumble dryer which longer staying people were using regularly.

The only downside was one of the other campers had let their dog roam free and it messed near our tent, The owners cleaned this up once we’d reported it - but this was the fault of the dog owner not the campsite.

Beaches around are lovely worth checking them all out.

Note you need to pay in cash, we paid our balance a couple of days into the camping as we didn’t have enough cash when we booked in.

We found a lot of places only took cash – cash point at co-op in Marlborough (1 mile away)

There were no play facilities for the children, but they got together and made their own fun – which was great as they made lots of new friends.

We will be definitely stay there again. (but take a bag of 20ps for the showers)
