Just got back from a week here which was our second visit. This site is a really good location for visiting central London. Train station is a 5 min walk and there's trains approx every 15 mins to either Charing Cross or Canon St. Over the bank holiday weekend the trains weren't running due to works on the new Crossrail link. We had to catch a bus. Best alternative route was a bus to Woolwich and then the DLR to Bank. Much quicker than the bus to Greenwich. It still took about 90 mins compared to the normal 25 min journey. Engineering works may continue at some weekends for the next few years so check if this may be a problem with South East trains.

The campsite itself is nice. I think they're all hard standing pitches. There's a little tent field in the middle. Site is very secure and feels safe. Toilets and showers are spotless. Wardens helpful. Look out for the parakeets in the trees!

There's a play area for kids which they seemed to be enjoying.

Stayed here for 5 nights excellent site easy to find but another world once inside so rural and peaceful you cannot believe you are in London, well laid out site good size pitches beautifully maintained clean well heated shower blocks with full facilities the staff are so helpful with directions to the train station etc 10 minute walk with regular service to wherever you want in London

Plenty of wild life in the woods it's lovely with squirrels birds and apparently foxes who like to steal your shoes if you leave them out - also it is a very secure site and you feel very safe

All in all could not fault anything and would recommend it to everyone visiting London in your caravan or motorhome or tent

We arrived back after midnight and felt safe walking back from the station and the site was securely locked with key coded access through a side gate

This is an excellent site well done

10/10 on every level. Pitches have a lot of space, close to the train station, friendly staff, great facilities.

Where else so close to London could you stay for £25 a night set in a wood with squirrels running about.

We've stayed here twice and I'd definitely go back

Not much else to say but I have to use up 300 characters to submit the review.

Spent five nights at Abbey Wood recently and it is an excellent site. Made feel welcome by the staff from the start and this continued throughout the holiday. The place is maintained to a very high standard and cannot be faulted. Train station within a mile and thereafter 30 mins to central London. Do not let the surrounding area put you off. It looks a bit run down however we walked from the station about midnight after a night in London and had no issues. The site is very secure and felt comfortable to leave van and car etc there while we were out. Although you are in London the site feels very rural once you are inside and is very peaceful with squirrels running about and green parrots flying above. Look out for the walk (about 20 mins) to the Abbey ruins as it is very nice and peaceful. All in all highly recommended site to do the London thing.

Fantastic site. Could not do enough to help. Great site for any one doing the London Marathon. Train station within a mile of the site and an easy walk. Great information room with loads of help about local shops and attractions that you can go to. Just up the road is a common which is great for walks and a great park and play area.

Brilliant site with excellent wardens. Wonderful to find a peaceful site in what, let's face it, is a run down suburb. We encountered no problems in walking around the area, to the station or Co-op, both of which are about 5 minutes from the secure gates of the site. Traffic noise is also a non issue, the owls make more noise. Facilities are what you would expect from a CC site. Plenty of hot water, clean showers, no litter, spacious pitches including ones for tents, laundry room etc. They also allow non members but it would cheaper to join than pay the non members fee. Trains to London leave very regularly. Daily off peak travel cards are best, £8 per adult allowing journeys in Zones 1-4 (site is 4). Site is very large and at the time of visit had acorns and conkers dropping all over the place so be careful where you pitch. At the time of visit charges for 2 adults worked out at less than £20 per night. Note that the site does slope so levellers required on most pitches
