We booked our first camping excursion at debden house due to its close location to home to test our newly purchased gear. It was recommended by a family member and we were not disappointed. Its a perfectly placed camp site nestled in a quite corner of Epping forest, the site has 4 fields each with its own character, one has fire pits, one is mainly used by scouts & groups etc.. One is in a orchard location & then there's the main field which is large, flat & surrounded by forest & has a children's play area in the centre.
The site is patrolled by security guards/wardens & the main entrance is secured with a barrier which staff operate if you flash your colour coded armband which gives a reassuring sense of safety.
The site seem very flexible & accommodating and booked us in only 2 days before arrival. There are no marked pitches so you can pitch where you like which is perfect if you have a group of tents to arrange into you own little village and all this for just £7 per night (£9 with hook-up)

This a very large site and different fields cater for different needs (electric, fire pit, larger groups). It is situated in Epping Forest and when the site was not busy was absolutely perfect.
We prebooked a fire pit and were in field 5, in the centre, which were smaller pitches but fine for our 4 man tent, windbreak and cooking etc. The outer edges of field 5 seem to cater larger parties, maybe 3-4 tents per pitch. The 1st night we had the centre part mostly to ourselves.
As mentioned before the noise curfew (or most of the site rules) were not adhered too, despite the warden driving around a couple times prior to 10 o'clock, noise went on to the early hours but was bearable. As it was Bank Holiday weekend we returned from a day out on Saturday to find the site full to the brim and the 8 showers and toilet block, and the smaller toilet block at the end of field 1/2 just did not cope. In fact it felt like the toilets was never cleaned the entire weekend. I only attempted a shower once and queued to go after they were cleaned at 8am Sun, but they were still not brilliant. Saturday evening was very noisy into the early hours.
However on Sunday morning many people left and again we had most of the centre of field 5 to ourselves again and the noise that night was a lot quieter.
Tip for getting wood for your fire is to go off site and park in Epping Forest a little way from the site and gather wood there, a saw or an axe would be handy to cut larger chucks from fallen trees.
The site is very near to Epping and Loughton so Morrison’s, Tesco's and an M&S are very near for supplies, or gives you lost of choice of venues if you want to go out for a meal.
The children loved exploring the forest around field 5 and collecting wood for the fire (plus toasting marshmallows), they only visited the play area once as the bigger play area is in field 1 and quite a trek from field 5. There are a couple of swings and a slide in field 2.
I think we picked the busiest weekend of the year, but I feel that the site facilities could be easily updated and additional toilets and showers provided. However despite the above we had a lovely family weekend away and now not sure if we can ever camp without having a campfire.

We visited debden house for our first family camping trip and I must say we all loved it.The fields were lovely and clean the pitch we had was in field 5 and we had direct access to the forest which the kids loved going into and collecting firewood. I will be going there again the only thing I would do is bring my own fire wood as there was no wood in the end we had to buy a saw from the local homebase and go into the forest and cut some old dead branches and logs up to make firewood but it all added to fun.

Had a lovely weekend camping, the campsite itself was very clean and well kept. The pitches were big enough for a large tent plus car at the side. The non electric hook up field had a lovely big area in the middle, so lots of games could be played without disturbing any fellow campers!. Didn't try the cafe, but it looked ok from the outside. Would definitely go back again.

We just returned from a weekend at Debden House and overall we had a lovely time. We had four children with us and they loved every second as we were pitched close to the playground and forest and they enjoyed both very much.
When we called to reserve they said to just turn up as they have never turned anyone away. However, we had to reserve 48 hours in advance if we wanted a pitch in the fire field where you can have a bonfire. On arrival we were told to pitch anywhere in field 1. Field 1 was very convenient for toilets, showers and playground for kids. You can also have electric hookup in field 1 so was perfect for our needs.
This is by far the largest campsite that we have visited. There is only approximately 8 showers for the whole campsite which meant waiting for a shower at peak times. I would suggest going for a shower just after they clean it (times stuck on the door) as it get's very muddy and wet at other times. The loo's are cleaned twice a day.
There is a Morrisons about 1.5 miles from the site which was very convenient. There is a small shop on site but they have very little to offer apart from chocolate and crisps.
The only negative for us was the noise (very loud music from various pitches which went on well into the night) as there were a lot of groups. If you want a quite get away this is not the place to go.
It was a perfect get away for us as the kids could run around all day long, we were close to the toilets and showers, we had electric hookup and it was 30min drive from home.

We visited this site as only our 2nd time camping and were very disappointed. The reviews and website seemed promising but it did not live up to its promise in our opinion.
We camped in field 4 with only a handful of others and the space was ample with our 10 man tent, however the only hook up points line the access road to fields 5,6 and 7 limiting our choice which was a concern with 2 adventurous tots wandering on to it at intervals and young would be racing car drivers using it. The toilets were adequate but not inspiring. The reception is not well signed and you must use common sense to locate it. The shop was closed during our visit. This is a cash only site, a fact which I could not see mentioned in their web site.
Our main complaint was that the 10 oclock curfew was not enforced and noisy revellers maintained their party including firework ( with a firework phobic dog in a tent this was not welcome ) until 5.30 am. We got no sleep at all as the noise continued not only from their site but as they endlessly treked too and from the toilets from their fields, through field 4 to the toilet site between field 4 and 1 making as much noise as possible the whole journey. I am sure they had a lovely time.
However on a positive note the children had a lovely time playing with 2 nice families and saw loads of rabbits. There is loads of room to play games, fly kites etc. They also enjoyed the 2 playground sites. 1 right behind us containing 4 swings and the other in field 1 with slides & climbing frame. They were interested in the various animals, chickens, goat, pot bellied pigs etc but it all seemed rather run down and there was no information displayed.
This site could be so much more. If you do go I suggest you try a fire field or field 1.
