Fabulous site.

Good sized pitches, hard standing mainly on upper level. Lower level is more scenic and grass pitches. Pitches with ehu, own water and drainage @ £23 for 2 adults.

Facilities of very high standard plenty of toilets and showers. Small shop on site sells a few bits and bobs.

Although site was nearly full when we stayed it was very peaceful. As previous no play area and no where really for kids to play, so assume not many families using site.

Wardens friendly and helpful - they keep site beautifully

Site less than 4 miles from Crich Tramway museum an excellent day out that includes rides on various trams.

A top cc site would recommend and will use again

Just returned from our first ever CC only site. As with other reviews, the facilities were very good and spotless and the wardens helpful. The Spanker Inn was a nice wander away with good beer and a good menu (we didn't eat).

We were given the choice of any pitch not in use which was good as a couple did look a little bit cramped and short for a 18ft van so we ended up on 38 by the toilet block.

We knew when we booked that there was no play area so made sure that we took things to keep the kids (5&6) amused. Disappointingly though the attitude of some of the other guests towards kids in general on the site wasn't what I expected. Our 6yr old daughter was skipping about 20 yrds away in view and was told to 'Go and play by your own caravan'. Probably should make it adults only if people want just peace and quiet.

For our first CC adventure. We liked the site but not some of the guests!but will probably go back in about 15yrs without the kids!

The Firs is a gem of a site. Wardens were helpful and very friendly,

The facilities were all clean and tidy, with privacy cubicles throughout

The site was well laid out with fantastic views from parts.

The site has super pitches, but we were not able to use these as they were full, but every pitch does have an aerial hook up point

The local pub, 3/4 mile away, served fantastic reasonably priced food and drink.

The local chippy is the award winning Georges, supposed to be very good but a little hard to find.

So all in all a fantastic site to which we will be returning to very soon

As we were new to caravanning last year this was the first site we visited with it being fairly near to home.

The welcome was excellent and the wardens couldn't do enough to help us. The facilities were excellent and the site clean and welcoming.

The surrounding area was very scenic and the views were splendid.

We enjoyed it so much the first time, we made it our first break of this year and shall definitely be returning.

A nice site in a very scenic area, spotlessly clean facilities up to the usual CC standards. At the far end of the site is a steeply sloping dog walk which is a bit of a joke really, but more importantly just above that is a dinky little picnic area with stunning views over the Derwent Valley.

Pub 'The Spanker' serves good food and is about 30 minutes walk away. Belper is an interesting town to explore if you are interested in history, particularly the Industrial Revolution as the Derwent Valley Mills is a world heritage site.

Matlock Bath, Carsington Water reservoir, and Ashbourne all within easy reach.

Recommended!

Reception: Very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Newspapers are available.

Pitch: Good sized hard-standing pitch with TV hook up (we had no30 near information building) Grass pitches at the bottom of the site have the best views over the valley.

Facilities: All of the facilities are spotless, with lots of hot water and well powered showers

Dog walk: This is at the bottom of the site, quite steep. If you would prefer, turn left out of site and follow the road along the Ridgeway, but be careful, there are places with no footpath. There is also a road into Ambergate, but it is quite a steep hill which is hard on the legs on the way back.

Pubs: Nearest pub is The Spanker Inn which is a nice pub serving 3 real ales, approx 15 minutes away. There are more in the district, Ambergate for example but we did not visit them.

Local Transport: There is a bus stop outside the site which goes to Belper, (every 2 hours) a small town with the usual variety of shops. But it does have a large retail outlet next to Morrisons along the main road which is well worth visiting.

Play Area: There is no play area, which judging by the visitors book is a sore point, but surely people read up on the site before visiting.

All in all a very nice site, open all year and would definitely return, maybe for a little longer than a weekend next time.
