Another pleasant trip. Kids adore this place. You really can loose yourself to outside world. Flat field. Pony trecking fab value £10 45 mins. Nice lake side walks and views. Showers and toilets clean. Wow and fab. Brill be their Easter too. Good fish and chips locally as well. Couple of nice restaurants at the lakeside front.
Just stayed here for the weekend, and it certainly has its pro's & con's.
Lovely setting with fabulous walks around the lake which is approx a 2. 5 mile walk all the way around.
Nice flat field.
Price at £14 per night its not expensive.
Plenty of rubbish space.
When we called to make the reseravtion I told them we had two dgos which they said wasn't a problem, but when we turned up we were told we were only allowed 1 dog per unit, and was asked if we can take the dogs out separately (as if)
Now our main complaint was not so much the fault of the campsite but a family, where I'm sure the parents had a serious bout of tourettes, as every word they were effing & jeffing at each other and at all the kids they had.
And at one stage I caught one of thier children actually swinging off one of my caravan rear handles, they were throwing stones near the caravans, it was a nighmare, and made our and other campers stay a uncomfortable one, I was informed complaints had been made about the family, but nothing was done or said to them.
The electric was very poor and kept tripping out, even with low volatge kettles & hairdryers.
Cant comment on the showers and toilets as didn't use them, and yes the road in is narrow, but nothing to much to trouble you if you just take it steady.
Used this site to see the tour de France and although I live quite local to it wasn't aware of how lovely the area is. The site can get a little waterlogged but the staff were very helpful and steered us in the right direction. Lovely walk round the lake and into Littleborough couple of nice places to eat and local pubs. Facilities need upgrading but they are in the process now of building a new block so that will help. We do intend to revisit this site.
Just returned following a 3 night stay. Site was busy due to the Tour de France weekend, should have been busier but the site had a lot of no shows. Very inconsiderate, the booked pitches could have been taken by others who really wanted them.
Narrow approach in places, but not a problem.
Site consists of an adult only/ hard standing and 2 immaculately kept fields, electric and none electric pitches mainly grass with a few hard standing. 2 water taps and one waste and refuse point. 2 toilets on main field with toilet / shower block and washing up and laundry near reception / well stocked shop. Free range eggs.
Owners are in the process of building a new facility block nearer the camp fields.
The present shower block consists of 2 large showers with sinks 50p token operated, available from shop. 3 toilets and sinks per ladies and gents. Water hot, ample time for a good shower. Dated but spotless. Did not use washing up area or launderette.
Family owned site very pleasant people, always around, eager to please but not intrusive.
No play area on site, but lots of room to play, a play area 2 mins just off site.
Part of the site has privately owned chalets and another private area for longer stay resident caravans.
10 mins pleasant walk off site around lake side takes you to one of the lake side cafés. Fantastic views of the lake. Or try the longer walk down to the main area where you are spoilt for choice were to eat, from fish and chips to a pub lunch.
Parking must be paid for, but there is plenty. Several disabled parking spots.
Visitors centre has a very large car park and cafe. A wild life haven, saw heron on camp site. Will definitely be returning soon only 40 mins from home. £16 per night for caravan, awning, electric x3 adults.
This site is just wow. Fab location, toilets and facilities very very clean. Never a queue. Kids loved this so much they have asked to go back next year for a week instead of going abroad. Manchester rail travel return off peak for 2 adults and 2 children £10. 20p. Bloke who does the rounds on a morning is more than helpful, brought as old something or other to prevent water and mud being trailed into our tent after heavy rain during the night. Will be returning without a doubt, and pub in nearby village equates to £5. 00 per head. What more can you ask at £14 per night for all 4.
Just had 4 wonderful nights at this site. Only 25 minutes from home, were pleased to just get pitch with electric somewhere! as it was a bank holiday. The largest field was open so we easily found a nice pitch.
We were pleasantly surprised by the site and facilities, although I have to say the toilets on the field we were in were not the best, basically two loos in a lockup! No soap in there which we thought was a bit lacking in this day and age and only a cold water tap. Room for improvement there although the other toilet/shower facilities on the site were great. I guess if we were to go again we would ask to be located closer to the other loos.
Anyway, that's the negatives over with. The site is so relaxing, right at the side of hollingworth lake which is very popular for tourists. Access onto the lakeside walk is via a stile and then 20 yards ahead is the path. Lovely walk round the lake with two pubs along the way. We ate at The local chip shop, very good value for money and also ate at the amusement arcade which was also very good value.
The owners very helpful and friendly, small shop which stocked the essentials on site and there is a park which although not part of the site, is accessible from the site over a wall. Our kids loved it. Loads of room for them to ride their bikes too and although cycling is restricted on the residential section of the park there was no restriction in the camping areas.
Just up the hill from the site is a riding stables which offers hacks at a very reasonable price (£10 per child for 3/4 hour). Well worth it for our 2 and we followed them round so enjoyed a nice walk too.
All in all we were absolutely delighted by this site, it was so relaxing, even on a busy bank holiday weekend. And fantastic value for money! £14 per night inc hookup. No surcharge for bank hol and no minimum night stay which is very unusual.
We will be back very soon
