After reading some negative comments in the reviews was compelled to write a review. We found the wardens pleasant and helpful- Particularly we when asked to move our van in the middle of horrific wind at night. Warden did not complain about his window being knocked on out of hours and pointed us to a more sheltered area. One of our children fell sick and when we informed them we had to leave the warden said she hoped our child got better quickly and wished us well. Welcome also good when I expressed concern over sinking into wet grass they gave us grass over gravel pitch and took us to the pitch.

Site was busy as it was new year and only one toilet/ shower block open so it was busy but showers/ pot wash etc kept clean and warm.

The wooded section had some lights out which made it dark.

Good area - pub/cafe and mini dry sledge slope next to site. Kids park through trees. Shop at pub very expensive but useful. Opposite site visitor centre nice cafe and reindeer centre does treks into hills to see reindeer. We used the hourly bus to aviemore and cairngorm and drivers will stop wherever you ask them to. Lots of lovely walks round loch morlich too.

The site did flood badly but this was the week where people in cumbria and borders were put out of their homes so freak weather continues.

We recommend this site. It is expensive hence 9/10 and there is no family bathroom.

Stopped here for just one night on our way North, and wish we'd stayed for longer.

The site was in a great location, though we had some difficulty finding it - the postcode took us to another site which was shut, but we should've carried on the road a little further.

Only half of the site was open, as it was low season. The facilities were still kept immaculate though for the few of us that were there and despite the bad weather the site was pretty good underfoot with just a few patches in the grass that were quite muddy.

The hardstanding pitches were well spaced and a good size for our van and the hookups were conveniently located.

We enjoyed some great walks in the area through some really varied landscape, and had a brilliant evening at the Pine Marten bar on the edge of the campsite where Riverman Rod played some great music for us all.

We'll definitely pop back to this site, and for more than just an overnight stay next time!

Firstly the location: brilliant, 10/10. Right on the shore of Loch Morlich (great watersports centre, lovely beach), surrounded by walking / cycling routes of all difficulties, just over the road from the Forestry Commission visitor centre, Youth Hostel (great for dinner), and reindeer centre. Short drive from many other places worth a visit.

I found the staff very welcoming and friendly. The site is quite expensive, but as a Camping & Caravan Club site that's set nationally. We did have a few problems with making and adjusting the booking because it's all done centrally - adding an extra person for a couple of nights took a staff member about 15 minutes of battling the CCC computer system.

The site itself is in two very distinct halves - the 'camping in the forest section, and the open field. The two have very different feels. The open field is like most CCC sites - road runs all round the site, and it is completely open, the pitches are reasonably well spaced and good and flat, but to me the pitches feel quite public. The woodland section is much more private, again the road runs past all the pitches but there are trees and bushes around and in between all the pitches giving it much more privacy. As you'd expect though, except in really good weather, the woodland pitches always seem slightly damp and sometimes dark (that might be a good thing if you're trying to get small children to sleep, of course!) Because of the CCC booking system you can't book a specific pitch, and you may not be able to get into the section of the site you wanted. When we were there this was exacerbated because weeks of rain had left a lot of the site waterlogged and lots of pitches were out of use - I'm told (by staff and regular visitors) that this is a very rare occurrence, usually the site is very well drained!

The toilet blocks are huge and fairly new, and were clean and well stocked. There was a laundry room and a dishwashing room but I was surprised that a site this size had no family bathrooms at all, so be prepared to shower your unwilling toddler without help (come on CCC, surely you can provide some in a place this size!)

There is a playground adjoining the site (I think it belongs to the Forestry Commission rather than the site), more of an obstacle course than a typical playground. My 3 year old loved it but needed help on almost everything, it's really for older kids.

The gate is locked at night so if you're out late be prepared to park over the road (free as long as you display your camping permit). There is a warden on call at all times so presumably in an emergency you could get your car off site.

It is a great location and we may be back for that, but the site itself was a bit big and commercial for my personal taste. Although I'm a member I am starting to feel that the CCC are overdoing the rules - no sleeping in awnings, no gazebos in summer, unwieldy booking systems, paying for day visitors, and so on. That 'hemmed in by rules' feeling rather took the edge off the site for me.

Hmmmm. £75 for a motorhome for 2 nights: 2 adults and 2 kids. A bit steep.

Got a pitch in the forest at the loch side. Beautiful, quiet and big pitches.

Pine Martin bar at the side of the camp was really good as is Loch Morlich watersports.

Chemical disposal was full so could not use it.

The toilet block (there are 2 but they are big) at our end of the site was closed for cleaning but not at 11:45 as was posted but 10:00. So we had to leave without a shower.

A great site with kids cycling about. Seemed like a European Campsite to be honest.

A superb site let down by the 2 items above and the value for money costs.

Stayed here for one night and loved the position. We stayed at the bottom of the park in a sheltered spot beneath the trees and although the pitch was a little dark the position next to the cycle track and just across from a lovely beach and loch was perfect for us. We used our kayak on the loch.

The toilets were clean and modern and the owners seemed friendly( he did mention they had only been there a few months)

We paid £22 for 2 adults which was one of the most expensive ones on our two week holiday.

We didn't use the shops pubs etc nearby but there did appear to be within walking distance.

We've been here a dozen or so times so know it good and bad.

Bad - Odd staff in office. 'No' seems to be their favourite word usually before you've finished asking. It may be a franchise but don't forget your customers.

Midges - Avoid the Pines and the stream. Nets otherwise.

Toilets need a through draft esp in morning. It reeks in there!

Pricey for tent'ers.

Good - Everything else. Book out of high season for the best experience. Take your bikes. Gotta try Pizza Riach in Aviemore PH22 1UQ!
