We managed to choose a very hot few days and Plough Lane was pretty well full (a change from our last visit) despite that it didn't feel crowded. Facilities are as great as ever, very clean and with nice little touches - shower gel, shampoo, hand cream, magazines and sweets provided and even though some people think there aren't enough showers for a full site, we never had to queue.

The information pack is still very welcome, more stuff being added as they go along, the welcome is friendly and the owners are always ready for a chat.

We note that some people have had TV reception problems - we got over 100 channels including radio - maybe we just have a better aerial!

Very handy for the road network, supermarkets etc. And lots to see and do in the area.

Tranquil! certainly not on the pitch that was allocated to us. We were allocated pitch number 18. This pitch backs on to the dog walking area and we were often plagued by the sound of yapping dogs. As we are not dog owners we found the noise intrusive and irritating. We were asked on booking if we had a dog and as our answer was no we feel that it was inconsiderate to allocate us this particular pitch. They say on their website that they are members of the 'Tranquil Park' association and that is the main reason that we booked. The road noise from the A350 is constant and very disturbing especially when sitting outside. The site's quiet time is 10pm until 8am but our neighbours on the next pitch played loud music and were laughing and shouting in their awning until after 11pm. There is no point in advertising a quiet policy if it is not policed. This pitch (18) also has large trees overhanging trees so, if it rains, you then have large droplets of water bouncing on your roof thus adding to the noise. The TV reception both terrestrial and satellite do not work on this pitch although we were assured that we could get satellite reception. We were offered a lead at a cost of £1 per day to get our TV working but we felt that the fee of £24 per night was expensive enough without added costs. The pitches are small so if you have an awning erected then you must park your vehicle across the front of your van, very near to the thoroughfare and passing traffic. The toilets are kept clean and warm with sufficient hot water. The site is neat and tidy but we will not be returning. 1942. Uniblue

What fantastic weather! We booked for a 3 day stay in late May. The young man on reception welcomed us warmly and gave directions to our pitch. The first thing I noticed was that there were no provisions on site. If you’re arriving early evening, and don’t want to drive any further, make sure you have some tucker on board for your first meal. There is a Morrisons store about a mile up the road which is also handy for fuel.

Our hardstanding pitch was large enough for us and level. Their tour de force is undoubtedly the way they’ve designed and maintain the toilet block. Cleaned regularly they supply soap/shampoo in the showers, soap in the washing cubicles and for the blokes, after shave.

There is road noise on site. For us it wasn't a big deal but it's a personal thing. Now, the dawn chorus around 5. 30am - that's a different story!

We had a Sunday roast at the Plough just across the dual carriageway. Decent food, generous portions washed down with a pint of bitter. Nice.

We walked into Chippenham – not recommended – as there is a regular bus service from just outside the entrance.

If your decision to book a site depends on the state of the toilet block – believe me this is the one for you.

What a GEM of a find from pulling up at the entry barrier to pitching up our awning. Very clean tidy and well organized on entering reception you are handed a very detailed and informative folder with everything from site rules to sat nav details to local amenities and tourist attractions. The owners have thought of everything the toilet and showers are amazing with lots of hot water, if I had to find fault it's the showers are the push button type but saying that the button stays in for quite a while. Free shampoo and soap in the showers and even aftershave in the mens.

Easy to find, just a couple of miles from Jnc17 of the M4. The entrance to the site gives you a good impression of what is beyond. The welcome pack you get at reception is very comprehensive and covers all aspects for your stay as far as I could see. The pitches (all hardstanding)are well laid out and have plenty of on for a campervan and awning. I had a standard pitch with EHU, other pitches had electric and a tap, although I did not take too much notice of them.

The toilet/shower block is immaculate, very clean, great decor especially the murals. A variety of piped music adds to the ambience whilst you are carrying out your ablutions!

The staff were very helpful and pleasant and made you feel most welcome.

Although I wasn't there as a 'tourist' the surrounding area has lots to see with really pretty Cotswold stone cottages etc. The Plough Inn is just a short walk (300 yds) from the entrance across the very busy A350. It has a reasonable menu and serves a good range of beers.

Yes you can hear traffic noise from the road on the campsite but, once engrossed in reading etc it melds into the background.

This is a well-kept site with excellent basic amenities, great location and reasonably priced. I thoroughly recommend you stay at Plough Lane.

To Find site:- Leave M4 at junction 17 and head towards Chippenham. At double traffic lights turn left at second set into Plough Lane. The site is a few hundred metres along this road on the right. There is a barrier with a telecom for you to contact reception.

Plough Lane is a delightful adult’s only campsite situated a couple of miles north of the town of Chippenham and conveniently near the M4. The care and attention lavished on the site is clearly obvious when you arrive. Reception provides a really comprehensive information folder on arrival which you can retain until you leave. There are just 50 pitches, all of them on gravel hardstandings of a good size and generously spaced. They are set out around gravelled site roads with almost a garden like appearance. There are both standard pitches and fully serviced, the latter having a dedicated water supply and drain point. Electric points are convenient to all pitches and are rated at 16amps and use CEE17 blue connectors. There are several service points dotted around the site and the only chemical toilet emptying point is near to reception. There is no dedicated drive over motorhome waste point but site staff can arrange for a drain cover to be lifted if you have a suitable waste hose to reach. Otherwise, of course, tanks can be manually emptied. The toilet block is of an excellent standard and has some nice touches. There is a covered washing up area plus addition sinks in the well-equipped laundry room. There is not much lighting around the site at night so a torch would be useful. The site has free site wide WiFi but it does have DNS monitoring software which is in place to prevent navigation to unsuitable websites! In reception there is more local information plus book exchange. Price wise the site operate a one price all season which can make early/late stays more seem expensive compared to Club sites that operate seasonal pricing, during our midweek stay, in early October, the site was only 20% full.

The town of Chippenham is only a couple of miles away. There is an hourly bus service from near to the site into the town for those that don’t want to use their own transport. Chippenham is a good shopping centre and on the outskirts there are several supermarkets. Many places of interest are within easy travelling distance. About ten minutes’ walk from the site is the Plough Inn which has a nice looking restaurant although check the food serving times.
