This site truly qualifies for Best Of British – a worthy Five-Star site! The pitches are all generously sized, and most are provided with a picnic table. The hardstanding (fast-draining granite chippings) was wide and long enough to accommodate our large motorhome, our car and the picnic table with room to spare. Hedging provided not only separation between adjacent pitches but also food and accommodation for extensive birdlife – we live in the country but have far fewer bird varieties than Trethem.

All the grass was very neatly trimmed, with no sign of stray cuttings. The hardstandings and tarmac road edges were manually cleared of any stray weeds which had dared enter the site.

The washrooms and shower suites were warm, very clean and tidy, with sponges and cleaning spray provided to help campers keep it so. Doors to the areas had automatic door-closers so energy was conserved even if inconsiderate campers couldn’t bother to close doors behind them. For once there was absolutely no shortage of hooks in these areas. Background music is relaxing.

The large off-lead dog run is excellent. It isn’t totally dog-proof fenced but there are no real dangers. For those with children there is a very good playground and also a field with football goalposts, basketball nett, etc.

The only reason we have given only 9 out of 10 for Location is the remoteness for anyone wanting to tour the area or shop for anything but essentials.

The friendly owners seem to work very hard at keeping the site perfect. Being well off the road to St Mawes the site is peaceful and relaxing. The shop takes orders for bread and newspapers but otherwise has a stock of most essentials. The van which came on Saturday evenings had really good quality fish and chips - far better than many pubs.

We will return!

This really is a 5* site and worthy of all the great reviews already given on this forum. I was slightly ambivalent about the strict rules, but they are, of course, just for the benefit of site customers and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

I stayed in a large De Waard tent and there was ample room to pitch and park my car (and bicycle) - and the great thing about this site is the shelter and privacy given by the hedge rows dividing individual pitches. There is a slight slope to the pitches (can you find anywhere flat in Cornwall?), but not significant enough to cause any problems.

The facilities are superb and there are three family/personal toilet/shower/sink rooms in addition to very good toilet/shower block facilities. Electric hook ups (16 amp) came as standard on every pitch and included in the site fee. The Reception seems to be open all day with a very handy shop selling a variety of useful items as well as food and drink.

The location is remote and rural, but with good access to St Mawes and on to other areas of Cornwall, which brings a nice serenity and tranquillity to the site.

Highly recommended!

Beautiful site, very well maintained, check in was fast and professional. Excellent dog walking section. At the moment due to health reasons we are unable to walk long distances and as this site is a little bit remote without a car you do need to plan your day as the bus is every 2 hours only. You can order newspapers and fresh bread for each day and the little shop is quite well stocked. A lovely area, fantastic site and I would recommend this one.

Visited for 2 nights 2 adults & a dog. Lovely site with great facilities, showers, bathrooms, shop, reception etc and visiting food vans. Varying types of pitch available, we had a fully serviced pitch lots of room and everything on hand, level pebble hard standing, with own grass area and picnic bench. Most pitches hedged and grounds immaculately kept. Could not fault site. Location is stunning but be prepared for it to be slightly further out than some sites, we walk and have bikes but it was steep to cycle, bus at the bottom of lane but needs planning as every 2 hours. Walk on coast path to St Mawes is stunning, takes c. 1. 5 hours. You can get the boat to Falmouth, train to Truro, then come back on the bus all in a day! We would definitely go again and explore other areas, we ran out of time. Area is dog friendly.

In all of the years we have been caravanning we believe this is the best site we have ever stayed on. Its beautiful, clean, well kept, well laid out. The owners and staff are helpful and friendly. The pitches are of a good size and if you require blocks due to any uneveness on the field they will lend you some. The shop is stocked with the basics. The services are all cleaned thoroughly every day and topped up throughout the day. There are three private large shower/toilet/sink rooms for families and disabled visitors. In the blocks there are four showers, approx ten toilets, two private wash rooms and three sinks. There is a beautiful nature field / dog walk which was heavily used by all dog owners, there are benches around to rest whilst taking pooch for a walk. The children's play area is well planned and plenty for children to do. The play field is good with netball, volley ball etc. , both well away from the caravans but close enough and safe for the parents not to worry. Roseland is an unspoilt part of the world and the beaches and coves are excellent. There are plenty of genuine fishing villages to visit and purchase plenty of freshly caught seafood and fish. A fishman, fish & chip van and pizza van visit the site throughout the week which makes dinner choices good. There aren't any bad things to say about this site. Price wise we believe they are on a par with other sites and its excellent value for money. The ground is mowed everytime someone leaves and hallelujah the cuttings are all picked up as well. The only observations I would make are: 1. There may be a delay for showers when busy 2. The hand dryers in both ladies and gents toilets are not very good. If that's all to say in the negative, that's fantastic. We will be back.

We booked almost a year ago for 2 weeks camping in our Trailer Tent. I requested at the time we had a sunny south facing pitch and we were lucky to get pitch 33, which had sun from morning to night. I emailed/rang the site a couple of times before arrival and always got a friendly courteous response.

We are a couple in our 40s with two labradors. My husbands daughter and family also went. They were allocated pitch 38 in front of us.

We arrived at 1. 30pm and went to reception where the team confirmed our pitch, given directions to the facilities.

Very large grass slightly sloping pitch, south facing, with hedges to front and sides.

The ladies toilets/shower block had four showers, approximately 8 loos (I didn't count), sinks (some with privacy curtains) and hair dryers. I don't know what the gents are like, but Hubby did say they were exceptionally clean.

They also have an additional block with 3 complete shower suites (shower, loo, sink, hair dryer and shaver point), I noticed one was more suited for a disabled guest. I believe they also have a separate disabled suite and baby bathroom. These shower suites were fantastic, constant hot water, spotlessly clean.

Washing Up/Laundry/Information Rooms

There was approx 6 washing up sinks, with constant hot water and a separate room for Laundry, The washing machines were £4 which included powder/softener.

There is a large room with local information, attraction leaflets. Also a book swap.

Dog Walk:

The dog walk is fabulous, even without a dog! They even have hand sanitizer at the gate.

Small licenced shop selling basics, fresh bread/papers can be ordered.

Pizza Van/Fish and Chip Van:

These come a few times a week, only had the pizza so can't comment on the fish and chips, but the pizza was excellent, monk fish and chorizo.

Out and About:

We walked to Porthcurnick Beach, across the fields as per the sites instructions, if you are going in summer time though watch out for the horse flies and spray yourself with repellent if you are prone to be eaten alive (like I am). It takes about 40 minutes to get to the beach by foot and about 10 minutes in the car. Free parking is available on the side road next to the beach, or its £3. 50 in the car park for all day. Beach is popular for kayakers and it has the Hidden Hut Cafe just behind (which has toilets).

We walked to St Mawes and back along the coast path, this took about 1hr 40 mins and was a ten mile round trip by the time we had walked into town. Its a lovely walk though. You can also get the bus back from St Mawes and it stops at the bottom of the lane near the site, not a regular bus service (every couple of hours), but you can always get an ice cream, go for a drink or just look at the view if you are waiting for the next one.

We walked from Porthcurnick to Towan Beach which was a couple of miles, lovely coastal walk.

We also visited Falmouth, Newquay and Perranporth.

Overall / Top and Bottom:

Would we go again. Yes Yes Yes. Booking this weekend for two weeks again next year, there are so many things we didn't get round to doing that we just have to go back.

Would we recommend. Yes but I would rather it was kept a secret (selfishly).

I did mean to pop in on our last day and say Thank You for our wonderful holiday, but by the time we had packed up it was too late.
