Fantastic site ! The camping field overlooks the loch, there is 12 ehu pitches, the shower block in the camping field was immaculate, there is a washing up block next to the shower block which has plenty of hot water. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The wifi started off fine but after our second day seemed to stop working, mobile phone signal was fine. The site is not far from a lot of lovely places to visit from stunning view points to lovely attractions. We will definitely return to this beautiful site.

This is the first time we have been to this campsite as a couple, without young grandson. We didn't bother with an electric hook up this time and had a pitch nearer the loch with lovely views. I should add that wherever you are on the site there are lovely views. I was a bit apprehensive going at this time of year as I don't generally like a busy site so avoid peak holiday times. And the site was very busy. I had no need to be apprehensive. Although busy it was full of folk having good old fashioned fun - fishing, barbecuing, children on the rope swing, boating. No boom boxes or rowdy drunks any of the times we have been here - there is always such a nice atmosphere. A credit to the staff who can keep such a busy site relatively peaceful. We noted a warden gently reminding folk in a very nice way of the no noise rule late on. The site is kept spotlessly clean, even when busy, with plenty of hot water in shower block and dishwashing areas.

I can't recommend this site enough - great atmosphere, friendly, clean, gorgeous views and in a great location. We will definitely be back.

This is a fantastic site with lovely staff who are happy to help. As per the other reviews it has a wide range of recreational opportunities and the layout of the site makes it a very safe place for children. It has around 12-16 electric hook ups for camping with a large camping field overlooking the Loch. The rope swing over the Loch is a big draw for the kids and some adults too, splash! Caravans etc are separate from the tent area, which is nice in case a group of rowdy, stay up until 3am types arrive. The site does have a no late night noise policy, which works. The fishing is great, free for kids and 5 for a 24 hour adult pass. Some good local food, we ate at the Ken Bridge hotel and The Clachan. Both are on the approved list in every aspect. The 'Cream O'' Galloway' was worth a visit. Its evolution from dairy to child focused activity centre has worked well. Dry weather would benefit a visit as most of the main attractions are outside, ie go carts and huge bouncing frame, 'thing'.

The only improvement on site would be the toilet / shower facilities in the camping field. The staff face a difficult problem of keeping them clean due to the flawed design of the blocks. This issue causes them to be awash despite the regular cleaning. Also the addition of urinals would be a benefit by keeping the toilet seats clean, as a consistent problem was people 'spraying' the seats. Sorry but the devils in the detail.

Overall the positives far outweigh this easily fixable issue. I recommend this site and will be returning.

We stayed at Loch Ken for 5 nights during August with our 6 week old baby. The site is really easy to get to and although it is in a rural area you are not very far from Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright. The site is laid out really well with a mixture of statics, tent field and touring caravans on hard standing. We booked the site as we had always wanted to caravan next to a Loch and we were not disappointed. We had great weather and watching the sunset was fantastic.

The staff are really friendly and could not do enough to help. The toilets and showers are kept really clean and even though we had a few nights of torrential rain, the cleaners really take pride in keeping the facilities clean.

There is a laundrette, a really well stocked shop with a coffee machine and a 24hour information room with lots to do. There is also lots of boating hire options and a small children playground that kept the youngsters happy. At night we had no trouble with people respecting the quiet rule.

We had a really good time, thank you to every one at Loch Ken and we will certainly be back.

Best Wishes

Mark, Dawn and Matilda

Bad points first, toilets & showers are quite along walk from your van. They are cleaned just once a day so later on can get quite untidy especially with mown grass that they do cut most days. The laundry machines are not very efficient, so even though your clothes smell clean they don't always remove any mud. The waste and chemical disposal points are near the toilets so also quite a journey. All touring pitches are hard standing so you need rock pegs ( these fake some keeping in).

Now the good points, fantastic location extremely picturesque. Loch very entertaining for the kids, we even took our kayak which meant they enjoyed hours going up and down on the lake. The pitches are a good size with a grass verge opposite to put your boat/kayak. The shop sells most essentials but if not there is a tesco in Castle Douglas around 6miles away.

I did not eat at the Thistle as some other people have but I can recommend the Crown Hotel in Castle Douglas which has a lovely separate dining area. The food was good and quite large portions for the mains.

I can also recommend a visit to the water ski school just 5 mins up the road in the car. The kids did the banana boat which was 10 each & the hubby's got a free ride watching them on the speed boat. They also tried out the rings which seemed much more fun at 15 each and another ride on speed boat for hubby. Both rides lasted about 15 mins which I thought was good value for money.

This is the best family site I have ever visited. Toilets and shower facilities are plentiful and clean. There are also laundry facilities and wifi, a well stocked shop, extensive information section with recommendations for places to eat and visit.

For kids there is a football pitch, giant chess, rope swing out over the loch, table tennis, 2 play areas and they also enjoyed looking for the fairy doors dotted around the campsite.

I loved the fact that kayaks were available to hire at 5 an hour, the space (you are not wedged together), beautiful views across the loch from all around the site and the friendly staff.

If you want a campsite which offers views, family facilities and water activities this is just the ticket. We did tent with no electric but there are electric pitches, wigwams, caravan hardstandings and statics available.

Nearby there are watersports and outdoor centres and further afield there are amazing beaches about 1/2 an hour away. There is extensive walking on the doorstep but it is great just chilling on site with the kids.

Our favourite family camping site.
