What a great place to stop on the edge of the Town, Hard standing or Grass right on a Loch. The town has plenty to offer Tesco coop and local shops, Brewery to go and visit strange opening times as it shuts at 6pm. The Place has places to eat and if fishing is your thing then the Lake has it for you.

The site has 3 toilet blocks and a swipe card is required for entry. The staff are the best, Will come again

Camped for six nights at the end of May and early days of June, with EHU. Friendly welcome.

Site is really beautiful, with a mixture of grassy areas and wooded areas alongside Loch Ken. There are some small beaches along the shore of the Loch, perfect for kids and dogs to play at.

The camping field for EHU is slightly sloping. Some pitches are flatter than others. Our pitch was on a slight slope. There is a water point close to the pitches, as well as dishwashing facilities and showers/toilets in portakabins.

Toilets cleaned daily, but it was quite busy, so they did become a bit messy and smelly later in the day. Showers are clean and VERY powerful.

Plenty of activities for kids to take part in on the site. Location is quiet, although the main road runs alongside the site. You hear the traffic but its very infrequent.

Many nearby places to visit, including the Galloway Forest Park, Dumfries and Castle Douglas, Gretna, and the Ayrshire, Dumfreisshire and Galloway coasts with their many beaches.

Will definitely return.

This is one of those campsites I always wanted to visit for many years. Had 2 beautiful hot days at this panoramic site overlooking the loch itself. The staff were very friendly and helpful, showing us to our pitch and informing us of all the amenities. About 7 miles from Castle Douglas. We arrived on Thurs bank holiday weekend and planned to stay till Sunday. It turned out there were over 100 bookings for the Friday and the same for Saturday but by Friday just after midnight the noise from both adults and children running amock deprived us of sleep.

Although adequate the toilets in my opinion did not serve purpose for over the 300_ 400 camping there, as they only had 3 cubicles and showers. I may visit this site again but it will be midweek when the site was not so busy

Fantastic site ! The camping field overlooks the loch, there is 12 ehu pitches, the shower block in the camping field was immaculate, there is a washing up block next to the shower block which has plenty of hot water. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The wifi started off fine but after our second day seemed to stop working, mobile phone signal was fine. The site is not far from a lot of lovely places to visit from stunning view points to lovely attractions. We will definitely return to this beautiful site.

This is the first time we have been to this campsite as a couple, without young grandson. We didn't bother with an electric hook up this time and had a pitch nearer the loch with lovely views. I should add that wherever you are on the site there are lovely views. I was a bit apprehensive going at this time of year as I don't generally like a busy site so avoid peak holiday times. And the site was very busy. I had no need to be apprehensive. Although busy it was full of folk having good old fashioned fun - fishing, barbecuing, children on the rope swing, boating. No boom boxes or rowdy drunks any of the times we have been here - there is always such a nice atmosphere. A credit to the staff who can keep such a busy site relatively peaceful. We noted a warden gently reminding folk in a very nice way of the no noise rule late on. The site is kept spotlessly clean, even when busy, with plenty of hot water in shower block and dishwashing areas.

I can't recommend this site enough - great atmosphere, friendly, clean, gorgeous views and in a great location. We will definitely be back.

This is a fantastic site with lovely staff who are happy to help. As per the other reviews it has a wide range of recreational opportunities and the layout of the site makes it a very safe place for children. It has around 12-16 electric hook ups for camping with a large camping field overlooking the Loch. The rope swing over the Loch is a big draw for the kids and some adults too, splash! Caravans etc are separate from the tent area, which is nice in case a group of rowdy, stay up until 3am types arrive. The site does have a no late night noise policy, which works. The fishing is great, free for kids and 5 for a 24 hour adult pass. Some good local food, we ate at the Ken Bridge hotel and The Clachan. Both are on the approved list in every aspect. The 'Cream O'' Galloway' was worth a visit. Its evolution from dairy to child focused activity centre has worked well. Dry weather would benefit a visit as most of the main attractions are outside, ie go carts and huge bouncing frame, 'thing'.

The only improvement on site would be the toilet / shower facilities in the camping field. The staff face a difficult problem of keeping them clean due to the flawed design of the blocks. This issue causes them to be awash despite the regular cleaning. Also the addition of urinals would be a benefit by keeping the toilet seats clean, as a consistent problem was people 'spraying' the seats. Sorry but the devils in the detail.

Overall the positives far outweigh this easily fixable issue. I recommend this site and will be returning.
