We've just had our first motorhome holiday with our dogs in a hired van. Ballater was a perfect stop - quiet, spotlessly clean in all areas and best of all lovely hot showers. This community run site is a real credit to Ballater. Even the wind and rain couldn't spoil our night's sleep. The Glenaden Hotel's Barrel Bar was the venue for an excellent venison burger and they were very welcoming to our dogs as well. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site, plus the bonus of over 65s get a discount!

Great wee site in beautiful surroundings and one which we keep coming back to time and again. Now run by the community and better for it I would say. We had a lovely pitch in the far corner right next to the River Dee. Kids enjoyed the small playpark and the walks along by the river and along the old Deeside Railway line are great.

Ballater itself is lovely, lots of nice little shops and a great place to stroll around on a dry day.

Site is right on the outskirts of the village which means you don't need to use the car to get to the shops/pubs/restaurants or the great little fish and chip shop.

Toilet block a little dated but kept nice and clean. Looking forward to our next visit.

This is a great wee site on the banks of the Dee. Well located for the town and all it's facilities. Hard to fault the site, the surroundings are pretty spectacular and the town of Ballater is very well kept. ( It is Royal Deeside after all) A visit to Loch Muick is a must, you can even tackle Lochnagar if you are keen. In short, great site which is run by the community with profits fed back to upgrade the site, give it a go - you will be impressed.

Ps great chippy and the grub in the Alexandra Hotel is first class.

A very well kept site on the edge of the town. Very quiet apart from the noise of the River Dee and no traffic. The site facilities are good and very clean. The town of Ballater has a good range of shops and if you're looking for tweed then no better place. The site was very quiet when I arrived mid week but by the weekend it was quite full but it didn't feel too crowded. There is plenty to do for all sorts in this area and this site is a good base to do it all from.

Just come back from a great weekend at Ballater campsite, we had never stayed at this site before when it was council run, so cannot comment on previous reviews. It's now run by the community, we booked really late for the weekend that the braemar gathering was on -so the site was actually fully booked, however the manager thought there was a possible cancellation and they would contact us. Half an hour later he called back confirming.

The site is really well located in Ballater very close to pubs, Restaurants and great biking and walking. Although the site was full the toilets were spotless and very well maintained -all the facilities were well maintained, pitches were spacious, hard standing for caravans and motor homes and a well maintained grass area for tents.

The prices were in line with similar sites 22 for 2 adults and Campervan, the location is excellent, there doesn't seem to be a play area -but there is plenty of space for play is a very pleasant little town -we hadn't time to shop for food -but there is plenty of local shops including a co-op and a great bakers.

The deli up near the square does great picnic meal deals, there is a Chinese, an Indian take away and for a real treat. -try eating at the italian -la mangetoia -booking required as always popular with locals.

Loads to do biking is very good and there are 2 bike hire shops -the off road trail to dinnet is very family friendly and serious trail bikers are spoilt for choice trips include national trust have crathes castle worth a visit -we will be back and stay longer next time

Why do the vast majority of reviewers look down their noses because this is a council run site. If it was privately owned and charging 50% more would they be happier? My wife & I - both 65++ - booked in for 2 nights but ended up staying for 4.

The reception was delightful. The managers could not have been more helpful in assisting us to choose a suitable pitch (my wife has slight disabilities). They are also knowledgeable regarding the area and more then willing to discuss places of interest, walks etc.

The facilities are clean, user friendly and well maintained. The site itself is in a stunning location, right on the banks of the Dee and surrounded by the Cairngorms.

It is a 5 minute walk into the village, which has everything you could want - superb food, bakers, butchers & shops. My wife even managed to get to the top of Craigendarroch hill (402M - 1320ft) and the views are well worth the effort.

On our 3rd night a camper parked next to us with 3 young men on board - windows thrown open and stereo turned up. A warden soon appeared and peace was restored - Impressive.

The only other noise we heard during our stay was the chuckling of the river and the laughter of children enjoying themselves - both delightful.

We have fallen in love with this site and will return again & again. Congratulations to all involved.
