This site is ideally situated right next to the ferry terminal at Craignure. Within walking distance was the local Spar shop, a pub, caf and a very good charity shop (worth a visit).

There were lovely sunsets over the sea but we were a bit disappointed with the lack of wildlife from the previous reviews of this site. It was also very busy when we were there and we would've preferred something a bit more secluded but that's only our opinion. The facilities provided were well more than you would usually expect and included a tent with TV, log burning stove and freezer, microwave and kettle for communal use. We did site and catch up on the news on TV one evening.

Toilets & showers clean and friendly staff.

Nothing to fault it as although it was busy it was in fact the Scottish school holidays.

Location: Lovely location with stunning views of the sea and mainland, only a few mins drive from ferry terminal.

Pitches: Spacious and all have views with separate area for tents. (we got lucky and got a pitch at the front overlooking the sea and beach)

Facilities: Excellent and very clean, handy drying tents, separate dish washing facilities (mainly housed in nice eco friendly structures). Even has a small games room which is handy if wet weather.

Comments: Owners very friendly and helpful and even though it was heavy rain/wind when we arrived still took the time to explain the site. No shop on site but village only 5-10 min walk with nice pubs, cafe's etc. And Spa shop.

All in all a great site, lovely location and very peaceful.

Really special campsite with super original features i. E Drying tents and free WiFi spaces and indoor games and meeting places. Walk round the headland from the campsite and enjoy the otters swimming the Oystercatchers screeching and the romantic view of Castle Duart. Shop, cafe and eating pub nearby and if you are lucky enough to get a front pitch the sea view is amazing with the CalMac ferries coming and going to Oban. Everything is spotless and they try very hard to please, even posting back forgotten towels! We'll be back!

I must admit that I was slightly disappointed with the Sheilings. I think it could be because the owner has now retired and it lacks the personal touch.

Good points - the location. Overlooking Craignure Harbour so gorgeous sunsets and lots of activity with watching the ferries. The facilities are spotlessly clean.

Could do better points - maybe I am being petty, but the hairdryer in the ladies was broken for the duration of my 6 day stay. I could borrow one of theirs but had to keep taking it back which was a pain. Also one of the shower's drain was blocked meaning that it overflowed all the time. I would have thought that for a four star site, maintaining facilities and making sure they are repaired is essential.

The pitches which face the harbour are small. They are ideal for a motorhome or camper but not for a caravan with awning.

Mull itself is wonderful. Probably some of the most friendliest people I have ever encountered. The tourist office at Craignure is fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who take pleasure in their job.

We chose this site due to it's proximity to the ferry terminal (you can see it as you drive off the ferry). We were also a bit unsure towing on single track roads with a caravan that's 24ft+!

Before booking I sent a few emails checking availability and checking we'd fit on an available pitch. We were offered a choice of 4 pitches that had views near the front of the campsite. We chose pitch 15 and my husband phoned and verbally reserved this and paid for the 1st night via debit card. We then received an email thanking us for the 1st nights payment and confirming the dates of our stay.

Upon arrival after travelling through the night/early hours of the morning (we left home at 4pm the day before) and got the 9. 50am ferry from Oban) we were told we were NOT booked onto pitch 15!

We had travelled almost 500 miles as this was a special holiday for my hubby's 50th so you can imagine how we felt, especially after the emails and making a verbal reservation. We were tired and spent some time trying to rectify the situation with the male member of staff in Reception. There was no-one on the pitch we had booked but we were told that the person who had booked it had the pitch number confirmed on their email.

He then offered us a pitch that was way too small to fit our caravan on. We were offered another but then struggled to get the back legs down properly as our caravan was too long to fit on it (our tow hitch was almost in the road and we had to reverse back quite a way onto uneven ground). By this point I had a stressed and irate hubby who was talking about trying to move to another site. The person we dealt with insisted that we hadn't been double booked and we received no apology.

However, luck was on our side as the couple that had (also) booked pitch 15 had a foreign 'van and couldn't put their awning up so we did a swop! I was so grateful to them as it meant we could then enjoy the holiday we'd been looking forward to for so long.

Views from where we were pitched were lovely and we had some stunning sunsets. I loved watching the ferry going backwards and forwards and it wasn't particularly noisy or intrusive.

Showers were clean but we both felt they could do with a refurb. They were push button and not temp adjustable although hot enough and free. However, there was very little room to dress/dry and you had to dodge the plastic shower curtain! And, as someone else has mentioned the hairdryer was out of order too but not an issue for me as I usually let my hair dry naturally most of the time.

Craignure has a pub (5 min walk), Spar shop, Arlene's Coffee Shop, Charity Shop (I bought a few very reasonably priced books in there), Calmac Office/Visitor Centre and another cafe (Macgregors?). There is also fuel which you pay for at the Spar shop.

The island itself is beautiful and the landscape/scenery is stunning. Tobermory is about 45 mins by bus - we went on the bus on our 1st full day to give hubby a break from driving - it cost us 10 each return. Tobermory was very pretty with several nice cafe's/tearooms. We really liked Tobermory Bakery and tearoom and we also had a 2 course meal at Cafe Fish which was very good. What surprised us was that parking was free in Tobermory(at Ledaig car park) which meant we could spend more on other things which we certainly did! Parking was also free at Fionnphort for the Iona ferry.

We ended up going out on 3 boat trips: one with Staffa Tours to Lunga and Fingals Cave (brilliant), a 4hr trip with Whale Watch with Us and a 3hr trip with Mull Charters to see the sea eagles. The boat trip to see the sea eagles was amazing as it gave us the opportunity to get some great photo's.

I could go on and on but will try to summarise other things not to miss. Calgary Bay and Calgary Art in Nature (beautiful beach and woodland sculpture trail), Loch Na Keal (chance of eagles and otters), Iona (costs 5. 10 on ferry from Fionnphort and takes about 10 mins), for a foodie treat 'The Ninth Wave' at Fionnphort - not cheap but food to die for, Eas Fors waterfall, Lip Na Cloiche (lovely garden and free admission as it's someone's property and B&B). And make time to drive around part of the island if you can to appreciate the landscape.

The single track roads are fine with care. Yes, there are some twisty and winding sections but on most of it you can see well ahead and spot other cars coming and pull into one of the many passing places.

We LOVED Mull and and it's not 'if' we go back it's 'when'! We will probably stay at a couple of different campsites and maybe just stay at The Shielings for a night or two when we get the ferry back home.

I have marked the site highly on location but marked it down on facilities/value for money. For 24. 50 a night I felt it could do much better as we stayed at a (smaller) site near Carlisle on our return journey for 18 a night with much better facilities.

Fifth visit here ! We love this site !

We went during half term holidays and it is clearly getting more and more popular as it was full.

We had booked early and once again had a brilliant stay.

The staff once more work tirelessly to keep the site immaculate and running well.

Midges were horrendous so come prepared in the summer months but any breeze soon has the pesky blighters away !

We tended to shop at the spar in Salem rather than the nearby one at the ferry terminal. Prices significantly cheaper and worth the 20 minute drive along the coast.

A visit to nearby duart castle is a must as is a puffin cruise from the ulva ferry terminal

Can't wait to visit again !
