The site is easily reached from the Oban to Mull ferry, on leaving the ferry the site is about 600 metres to the left. The site offers pitches for camping, caravans, motorhomes and their own camping units, The Shielings. The pitches are a good size with easy access to the required facilities for water, waste and toilet/shower blocks. The site facilities are maintained to a very high standard through the hard work of the dedicated team that work there. The staff are very friendly and will offer advice on activities or services on the island. The site offers excellent views around the sound of Mull, walks around the shoreline, (you may see otters either in the water or feeding on land) and is within easy walking of the small village of Craignure. The village has a small shop, tourist information centre, a coffee shop and of course a pub which serves excellent food. We stayed on the island for 4 nights, that was our mistake, we should have stayed for more than a week, so will definitely be back for further visits.

My oh my. We intended staying on another site upon getting off the Oban ferry, but due to the wind we thought we should stay close to civilisation. So booked in for one night here. Am I glad we did. This is a superb site, cleverly planned out. The toilets and showers are the cleanest I have been in on any campsite. The plots are spacious and offer great views, especially if on the sea front. The fresh water, chemical disposal and dust bins are cleverly hidden behind canvas curtains. There are numerous tents used solely for drying clothes and towels. The office has pc availability, and daily weather updates ( vital for Mull). The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The site sits on a small beach overlong the sound and the ferry terminal. There is a small harbour wall used by local fishing folk and the coastguard. Within five minutes walk is the local pub, the Craignure Inn. They serve nice pub meals to a high standard and the Ale is superb. Along the road is a spar shop and a café bar.

The site is suitable as a base for exploring mull, being only 30 minutes from Tobermory and a good 1 1/2 hours from the Iona ferry at Fionnaphort. Twenty minutes down the road is the Loch Spelve mussel farm, were they farm the famous Inverlussa mussels. These are sold from a cool box and cost £2 per 2 kilo bag. And they are DELICIOUS.

We stayed 4 nights in total and I would seriously say that if you don't use this site, you ae missing a trick.

Well done the Sheilings.

Great location, we had a pitch very close to shore, lovely views. Friendly helpful staff. Clean toilets and showers. Shieling dryer worked well. Mull is beautiful, stunning views. Well worth the short ferry ride to Iona for even more stunning views. Had a good walk to the very interesting Duart castle. Site is very convenient for Oban ferry. Can recommend and would definite use if visiting Mull again.

Enjoyed our 5 night stay. Very handy being next to ferry terminal, and site just as other posts. Very clean showers/toilets, very friendly staff.

Mull beautiful- managed to see some golden and white tailed eagles.

My only criticism is around the astroturf pitches. I had read previous posts regarding the size of the pitches- so emailed the site to make sure they were large enough to accommodate our tent. I had a very prompt reply assuring me they could fit our tent. So I was dismayed on arrival to be offered a choice of 4 astroturf pitches-none of which was large enough. The warden just saying to pitch on the astroturf and it doesn't matter if the tent overspills onto the surrounding ground. This was hard-standing gravel- which is not good for a SIG- so I was not too pleased with this-particularly as I has specifically asked this very question. We just had to try to keep off the parts that were on the gravel-which wasn't easy. S have to mark down re service for this reason. Luckily we did not get a hole in our SIG, but footprint marked badly.

Apart from this, site was nice and I would recommend- although check your tent size carefully.

First saw this site from the ferry on an earlier trip to Mull. Thought it looked nice, so booked for a 7 day stay in July. On arrival, the staff were very pleasant, helpful and worked very hard to maintain the high standards throughout the site. We were also blessed with great weather so all in all had a wonderful week. We toured the island by car and also used the bus service (using our bus passes) The scenery on Mull is spectacular. Had a trip to Iona - a 'must do' if visiting Mull. Also visited the Tobermory Highland Games - great afternoon out. Bought the best mussels ever from Inver Lussa Mussel farm (only £1 per kilo) delicious! Sadly, didn't manage to see any Sea Eagles this time - oh well, maybe next time. Would certainly return to Mull and to The Sheiling camp site. Great place for young and old alike.

Visited this site twice in our week on Mull.

The site itself is very good. There are great views over the bay, and up to Ben Nevis. It has some of the best facilities we've found. The toilets and showers are immaculate. There's washing & drying for clothes, recycling points and freezers for ice blocks etc. Tent pitches are on astroturf which is just great when it rains, also helps to keep in a bit more warmth.

We chose this site because of its proximity to the ferry, and its a good base for exploring the northern end of the island. Craignure itself is rather basic, with a pub serving decent food, a great wee coffee shop and a very pricey Spar. (I highly recommend the coffee shop for a breakfast roll and coffee).

I have only one criticism of this site - the famous midges. They were pretty horrendous, and we came prepared for them! The site has a lot of pitches near trees and other leafy foliage. Suggest you ask for one on the higher, open ground (which we did upon our second visit), to avoid the clouds of the little blighters!

Overall, a good experience here and would certainly visit again.
