We found this gem of a campsite in the Guardians top 5 on the Gower. Wonderfully immaculate facilities, use of industrial size fridges and freezers. Great cafe with local produce for sale on site where we camped out for half a day due to rain - well it was Wales. Fantastic beach just down the slope from the campsite, local information available eg bus time tables, places to eat etc. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome and it was not just us. On day two of our stay 4 Chinese students turned up with no camping equipment and the owners went out of their way to find them a tent and sleeping bags for them to use.
Excellent campsite with excellent facilities. The toilet and shower block has to be one of the best I've seen and this can make a lot of difference to a holiday. The added bonus of a laundry area and fridge and freezers was a welcome bonus. The site is well positioned in the Gower and with the right pitch you have a very impressive view of Oxwich bay. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the site is secure with a key operated entry barrier into the main field. It also has a small café and shop which was also very good. Our friends with a caravan did say the entry and exit into the site can be a little tricky but this can be overcome with a friend guiding you out. The only issue we had was the ground was a little stony to put tent pegs in but this was easy to deal with.
This is a lovely lovely site. We were greeted by a cheery lady on Reception, who was very helpful. We were in the field for carravanners and tenters. There are about 25 pitches & you all have plenty of room around you, with a big green in the middle.
The washrooms and showers are immaculate. They have individual rooms, with a shower (20p for 4 minutes), toilet & basin.
You can walk to Oxwich beach from the site via a private gate.
Shops wise, we struggled a bit. There is a texaco garage about a two minute drive away, which will have everything you need, but we prefer local produce.
There are also drying rooms for wetsuits etc, huge freezers & a good modern washing up area (inside).
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this site to anyone. We will be going back in June for the PYO season.
Only negative is the £27pn, even in Sept. Just a tad expensive.
This is a lovely site on the equally lovely Gower Peninsula. The facilities are excellent; plentiful, very clean and smart, without the utilitarian style sometimes seen in Caravan Club sites. The showers require 20p for each 4 minutes, so make sure you collect some 20p coins before you arrive. There are fridges and freezers available, and even drying cabinets for wetsuits/fleeces. There is a nice on-site cafe, and essential provisions such as milk and freshly baked bread are available. Directly from the site it is a 10-15 minute walk down to the spectacular beach of Oxwich Bay through a nature reserve and sand dunes. There are three fields; two for camping, and one for a mix of caravans, motorhomes, camper vans, and large tents. Most of the caravan pitches are grassy hardstandings (rock pegs required), with outstanding views over the bay. The staff are approachable and helpful. The only downside I can report is the short, steep incline on leaving the site, which is a bit of a heave if towing a caravan unless you have a big 4-wheel drive vehicle.
My girlfriend and I just spent 5 fantastic nights at this campsite. We consider ourselves season campers and this is probably the best site we have stayed at. The toilets and showers were always clean, they are very modern. They are coined operated and 20p gives you 4 minutes of hot water, which is surprisingly long enough to shower and wash your hair. The site is very well maintained. The pot wash has two large fridges and a large chest freezer where patrons can store food, milk etc and re-freeze ice packs etc free of charge. I thought this was a great idea. They also supply black bags free of charge. We stayed on the lower field with hook up and there is plenty of room if you have a large tent. The location is stunning with direct access to Oxchwich bay, it is very steep which disabled, the older generation and young children may struggle with however a 5 minute drive takes you to Oxchwich Slade where you can park practically on the beach with access to toilet's, beach bistro and cafe and water sports such as kayak hire, surfing etc. The Gower Peninsula is amazing and the views and beaches are breath taking. If you want a chilled out and quiet site with great facilities and a relaxed atmosphere then this is the place too be.
After having spent a couple of nights at this site last year, my son and I spent a week revisiting it, mainly due to the local archery / falconry centre.
The site is well run, well organised, and has excellent facilities. There's a bit of a slope to contend with, but nothing too outrageous. The toilet blocks are modern (more on those later), and the shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.
Oxwich Bay is about 20 minutes walk down the hill, and is a superb, safe, clean beach. When the tide is out there are some good rock pools to explore, and you can walk around to Three Cliffs Bay.
Worms Head is about 15-20 minutes drive away, and Swansea about the same.
My only criticisms of the site would be that the shower rooms really do need a mop supplied. The floors get very muddy, and so I spent a good 10 minutes each day wiping the floor down with toilet paper to make sure we had a clean floor to step out onto. The shower is 20p for 3 1/2 minutes, which is doable, just don't expect to spend too long washing yourself down.
A further criticism would be that in this modern age, wifi would be a nice touch. The mobile phone reception is patchy, and at times non-existent. A wifi connection would be a welcome addition, especially considering the pitch price (which charges extra for pretty much everything).
Overall though, a lovely site, in a lovely location.
