Our first visit since the CC took over. The transformation is amazing. From a rather sad looking old site they have fashioned a really bright, clean and welcoming site.
Wardens were fantastic - really friendly and helpful. Facilities are brand new and kept really clean. Pitches are a good size and well spaced.
There is a shuttle bus from the site into Glasgow which leaves 3 times a day - £7 return is really good value and so much to see and do in Glasgow its well worth the trip.
The country park next to the site is a good day out. Large loch, parklands, paths and a funfair - there really is something for everyone and its less than 5 minutes walk from the site.
Would agree there is some road noise - but the site is less then 2 minutes from the motorway which is one of the main positives as it makes it perfect for stopovers north or south bound.
All in all the CC have taken over a cracking location and done a brilliant job on both the upgrade and finding perfect wardens. Would recommend this site for stopovers or for a few days to explore the area.
We spent 2 nights here on our way home. Have to agree with previous posts that there is quite a bit of road noise but we picked a pitch on the edge of the site which didn't help. Large pitches which easy accommodated our motorhome, car transporter and car. I agree, the caravan storage area is a bit of an eyesore, but that's what it is, a storage area. I expect this site will be very popular and busy with visitors for the commonwealth games in 2014.
Stayed for 3 nights in Sept and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very easy to access from motorway. Some reviews mention road noise, and yes you can hear traffic but this did not affect our stay in any way, unless you want total quiet, don't be put off. Pitches are a good size all fairly flat. Toilet block is new very clean, husband and daughter were impressed with the showers, I prefer to shower in my van. Lots of walking accessible from campsite round the lake and woodland. M & D Theme Park is a short walk, but from campsite you wouldn't know it was there, . Site office surrounded with beautiful display of well tended flowers, staff very friendly and helpful. The site wasn't too busy so we were welcome to stay past the 12noon checkout, which was just as well as our Milenco wheel clamp let us down and we couldn't get it removed from the van, site staff very helpful, trying all ways to assist, and lent my husband tools to saw the damn thing off, quite concerning how easy it came off with a hacksaw.
Will definitely return and would highly recommend.
I was disappointed it was scruffy and noisy. On arrival there was a lovely display of flowers in pots and hanging baskets and a friendly welcome.
To the right of reception greeting you is a storage compound of 200/250 caravans a complete eye sore. It wants a wooden fence screening this from the caravan site. Some shrubs are there growing but I think it will take many years to hide this.
The toilet facilities were clean and very nice. A lovely play area for the children.
The site has been ongoing for 6 months, it has plenty of mature trees on the perimeter of the site and also scattered in the site, so doesn't seem so new.
The grass is scruffy, it's long with weeds growing within it some as much as 10 inches, the shrub beds have grass and weeds growing in them also some pitches with shale topping have also grass growing through. No TLC on site at all, just at reception.
On the Caravan Club website it says' there is some road noise' this is a understatement. The site is on a very busy feeder road to a traffic island leading onto the M74. The feeder road and traffic island is 5 yards from the site with the M74 about 100 yards from the site. The banging and rattling of lorries, changing gears, motor bikes and cars 24 hours per day. Sitting out in the day and sleeping at night with the droning of traffic noise. Also the descending flight path of planes with their noise going into Glasgow airport although this does come and goes.
This is my opinion, my husband seemed to get used to the noise, I have a different hearing pitch to him, I laid most nights listening to the noise only getting one good nights sleep. I think the Caravan Club have been miss guided on taking this site on, and it does not come up to its usual high standards.
I live very close to this site but thought I would give it a try none the less.
As you would expect with a new site everything is in excellent condition and spotless. The site is well laid out and there is enough room on each pitch for awning car etc. I think the width of the road could have been a little wider to allow for ease of hitching up when leaving.
It is beside the A725 and M74 but the road noise wasn't an issue for me. This close access to the road network allows for ease of travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Stirling.
There is a small play park on site, great for the kids but also within walking distance you have M&D's, the loch in the park with water sports and a larger play area. For those interested in history the park has a roman bridge and the remains of a bathhouse. The site has very basic items for sale but you have a large retail park in nearby Hamilton that has contains a large Asda, cinema and other shops.
We decided to go to nearby Coatbridge, there you have the Time Capsule and Summerlee Heritage Park, both suitable for all the family.
This site is the prefect base for anyone visiting Glasgow for the commonwealth games in 2014.
I will be returning at some point, as once you are on site, no matter how close to home, you are on holiday!
