Hugely disappointed! After reading the reviews we were looking forward to this. Strong smell of sewage. Noisy, busy road all through the night may be acceptable in caravan or motor-home not tents. Noisy waves although you might find these calming. Daughter came to visit for the afternoon and as she was walking to shower block the woman was out shouting at her from the balcony of the house across the road and was soon followed by the husband coming to the tent. He wanted to charge her £2 for the use of the shower and when I told him, technically she was having mine as I hadn't had mine, was promptly told 'It's not my fault if customers don't use the facilities, we have motor-homes here who use their own showers!' One of my daughters friends who had come to visit also is a manager in a leading worldwide hotel chain, who is obviously highly trained in hospitality, the eyebrow raisers the site was 2 days away from closing for the season and risked negative reviews for the sake of £2! Left a bad taste in our mouths, campers beware your every move will be watched from the house!

Management response: Thank you for the feedback

It was unfortunate that the seas were rough during your stay making a lot of noise and leaving smelly seaweed on the beach. To us the road is quiet, perhaps your home location is more isolated, these things are hard to quantify.

Your daughter was not shouted at her, merely asked if she was booked in. We do not provide facilities for anyone that happens by, they are just for paying guests. We were not advised of their arrival - it would have been courteous to do so and ask if it was OK for visitors to use the facilities. On such occasions we would normally suggest that they make a contribution to the RNLI box in reception.

Only stayed one night while we were up in Scotland for the Commonwealth Games, but wish we could have stayed longer. Position is superb - you could not be closer to the beach, and although the A83 is next door, the infrequency of passing traffic meant that road noise is not an issue - the waves were louder than any passing car. Shower block was spotless, washing up area also. Lots of helpful info in reception area about local walks, places to visit and places to eat including sample menus. Children (age 9 to 14) loved it, whether playing on the beach, using the table tennis table, taking photos or trying to spot seals. We could relax fully and are now hoping to have a longer stay next year and use this site as a base for island hopping and further exploring the area. Owners were really helpful and friendly when booking, although they were away for a family wedding when we stayed - the 'temporary wardens' were very friendly. We cannot recommend this site highly enough - best site we have ever stayed on.

What a fantastic place to stay, we have just had four nights at this small site which is right on the beach, the weather was reasonable for our stay which does help, we were met on arrival by the owners and made to feel very welcome, they gave us all the info we needed then left us to it. You can face your van to the sea and watch seals from it, we sat out most nights and just relaxed watching some fantastic sunsets. We drove to cambeltown for supermarkets, but had we looked in the local store first which is only 100mts away we would have shopped there as they sell everything you could need a really well stocked store and nice people who run it. The showers and toilets are spotless on site and as there are only a few pitches there never too busy. We will go back for sure pity it wasn't a bit closer to us. Thanks for a great stay. Ste and karen.

Return visit to this site.

Still very well maintained with spotlessly clean and modern toilets, showers and dishwash area. (Have no idea what previous comment about 'not being kept up to date' means?)

Yes, the site is bordered by a main road but this didn't bother us in the slightest as the pitches are faced away from it, towards beach.

Shop within walking distance of campsite - larger supermarkets in Campbeltown about 20 mins drive away.

Adrian and Alison the owners are very friendly and helpful - we would return more often if just a bit closer to home!

Shown as being in the top 100 caravan sites for the UK by Practical Caravan magazine. Well not really. The site is, as others have said, you get what you see. A small site (10 vans max) with the sea at your doorstep. Fantastic views at sunset but that's about it.

The site is situated right next to the main road to Campbeltown with only a wire fence separating you from the road. The rubbish bins and information are across the road which means you have to dice with the traffic (no footpath) when you want to empty your general waste or use the games room / information / reception.

The owners are friendly but the caravan site is up for sale (has been for 5 years) which may be the reason for not keeping all up to date. The site does have free WiFi but you have to stand next to the main house across the road to get a signal.

There is a shop a short walk down the road which stocks almost everything and are very friendly.

Overall - The sunsets are fantastic

Very nice area. Nice site. Staff good. Went for a week in static caravan. Lovely place to visit.

SADLY. The price of hire did not match the condition of caravan. Seating ripped. No proper kitchen equipment. Micro-wave none. Toaster none.

good location to travel around Argyll. Dog- friendly area. Site is very close to main road. Games room ?we had good trips to campbeltown. Then gigha. The whole of Argyll is clean. Friendly place to visit

Management response: We were aware that a couple of cushions were showing signs of wear in the caravan referred to by Mijone, we are arranging for all the seating to be
recovered during the winter shutdown. If Mijone had advised us of their concern we could have pointed this out.

Unfortunately the caravan does not blend itself to a microwave easily, we could have supplied one (if asked) but there wouldn't have been much worktop left. Likewise, we could have provided a toaster (if asked) there is a grill in the oven.
