The touring area is a mixture of caravans and tents, but by no means crowded. A large area is left vacant for children to play on. It is surrounded by Static caravans, which house some of the friendliest people you could come across on a mixed site, always polite and offering good advice about walks and the surrounding area.

On my first visit one resident from there static came out and gave me a hand to get set up, which was made harder by the fact he had climbed Skiddaw the previous day and could hardly walk.

All in all a fantastic site and a one I will return to for a third time later in the year. Well done & keep up the good work.

Rang the site on speck as we had been visiting friends for the weekend in the South Lakes and as the weather was going to be so perfect (for a change), decided to travel up to the North Lakes to camp for a few days. The gentleman I spoke to was most helpful and friendly and said he had electric hook ups available and the price was very good. The campsite is in a beautiful area with lovely views.

We stayed for 2 days and as the children had returned to school, it was extremely quiet which was great. I would imagine it is very busy in high season as there is loads of space for kids to play in.

The grounds where we pitched our tent were lovely, there had been some rain over the weekend so the ground was a bit soft but nothing to worry about. The toilets and showers were very clean and had lovely hot showers. Pot washing facilities were fine too.

Very near Bassenthwaite Lake and we were able to see Ospreys from our campsite twice which was a bonus. All in all, a lovely, clean campsite in a beautiful location and would definitely visit again, although as previously mentioned, would probably visit when children are at school as I imagine it may get very busy and there are only 2 showers and 2 toilets in the block.

There cannot be many other sites which give you as good views from your caravan - they are spectacular! When sited on the pitches at the top of the touring field which ever way you look it is beautiful.

To the left is Skiddaw - which changes all day long from dark and forboding to every shade of green and in the fabulous sunsets it glows red. To the middle and right there is Whinlatter Forest and behind you is a picturesque pastoral scene of gently rolling hills speckled with sheep.

The wildlife is abundant on the park and buzzards and herons fly overhead.

Bassenthwiate Lake is just across the road from the entrance and there are lots of small 'beaches' around it where the children can paddle or Dad can fish.

The site is approx. 6 miles from Cockermouth (North) and the same from Keswick (South). Both towns have large supermarkets and have lots to see and do. We found that this year almost all pubs were allowing dogs to go in with their owners which is great.

This is a well kept mostly static caravan site with plenty of open spaces and has a good dog walking area. The touring and camping pitches have hook ups. The toilets are very clean and the rubbish and recycling area is kept very tidy.

There is a washing machine etc which uses tokens purchased from the super new reception area and also this year wifi is available at a very reasonable price - we paid £10 for 7 days.

The owners are really nice people who you feel like you have known all your life. This is a site that people return to year after year - what more can I say?

Beautiful site, well maintained and clean. We found that the pitch we had (on the hill) was quite a way from the toilet/shower block, waste disposal site and rubbish bins-there were all located at the entrance to the site so we would have liked one at the top of the hill.

The site itself is clean, tidy and reasonably priced. The entrance is a new conversion and is immaculate, inviting and warm. The site couldn't offer WiFi at the time due to BT problems but it didn't bother us.

There are lots of statics on site but these are kept separate to the tourers. Toilets were clean and tidy but could do with updating.

There is not much in the local area immediately and it is quite a drive to anywhere for any local attractions.

We just got back from this site and we loved it. The postal confirmation to place in your window is a great idea.

Our pitch was very long and narrow among the static vans, but there was lots more pitches on the large touring field, where the best views seem to be. If you want views request pitches 7 or 8.

The toilets and showers were great, even though there were only 2 of each in the gents we never queued even on a bank holiday weekend!

The dog walk as also really good, but if you go out the gates and up over the road your on the lake and it has great walks along the edge.

Ignore your satnav as it tried to take us to the animal farm next door. No kids play ground but they all seem to have loads of fun on their bikes.

We used the WiFi which was £5. 00 for one day. I cant wait to rebook for our next visit.

Husband, dog and myself had our 2 weeks summer holidays at Herdwick Croft. What a beautiful position for a site, we had a fantastic view of Skiddaw etc from pitch 6.

A five minute walk down to the lake, sheep in the next field to keep us company and add hours of entertainment, and buzzards nesting in a nearby copse.

Maybe other users could have been more careful about mopping out the showers, and keeping an eye on their own dogs, although this was only at the weekends when tents arrived. This was obviously not the owners fault.

Very friendly people on the site from tourers and statics alike. The statics were all well kept and not offensive to walk through.

An amazingly quiet location and very beautiful views from our caravan windows!

We would visit again.
