Nice site and most of the reviews have covered the sites shower and toilet sheds. The red light system is handy knowing when the facilities are in use.
Overall a peaceful site, didn't see much of the promoted wildlife however, there is nothing in Millhouse village and any local pubs are a car drive away, this fact took the edge of the site for me. The site is well north of the northern fells and a good drive to get to Keswick or Buttermere side.
Would I stay again? No, peaceful site, nothing to do locally and a touch too far from the fells, other than that all good.
This small site has 2 parts - 5 spaces for CC members and 9 spaces for anyone. It's a cracking little site easy to get to (just be careful - sharp bend and building on corner after you turn off to the access road. ) The toilets and showers are in little sheds but plenty of room and as it's a small site not often full.
Just one word of warning whilst showering - don't turn off the water to soap down as you will get scolded when you turn on again.
We have been to this site several times and will use it again.
There is a pub down the road about 5 minutes drive - micro brewery and another a few minutes further on.
First time at the site and stayed a week with friends in their own unit on the Millrace side. The site is everything that everyone else has said about it and is lovely. We were looking forward to seeing the toilet and showers and these were what we expected from the reviews clean, fit for purpose and Quaint. Both the shower and toilet were fitted with a red light that showed they were in use which was a clever idea to save standing outside. Drinking water, chemical toilet disposal, motor home empty point and waste water are all in the same location in front of the toilet and showers along with the rubbish and recycling bins which are clearly marked. No matter which pitch you chose you were no further away than 50 yards from these.
We met the owner on the first day and saw him every day going about his business of up keeping the site and cleaning the facilities, other than that we were left alone but knew he was there if we needed him.
The dog walk on site is well lit at night and is perfect for first thing and late night doggy business. There is a public footpath leading away from the site in 2 directions split by a road so no one walks or wanders onto or through the site and is better for longer dog walks or walking throughout the day and early evening. The path goes for miles in both directions towards Hesket New Market and Mosedale. For Fell walking and the lakes its a great base to set out with the nearest fell being 10 minutes drive away.
Nearest supermarket is Penrith about 15 mins drive away and nearest shop is in Hesket New market 1 3/4 mile away the post office. There is a pub in Hesket called the Crown that does its own real Ale and food and another pub just up the road in calbeck 1. 5 miles away from Hesket called the oddfellows arms which did nice food and beer, one of the biggest sunday lunches I've seen with the thickest slices of beef ever.
The site WiFi is less than 1 meg so is adequate for emails and browsing but not streaming media etc and we couldn't get a mobile signal on 3 networks without walking away from Millhouse for some some distance, this was actually not too bad because we got less interruptions, there is a public phone box at the village hall just round the corner from the site. Digital TV signal is 100%
We liked the site and the area and will visit again for longer if possible next time.
A well laid out site and being adult only was very quiet, we stayed in the Millrace section with a nice view of the river. The payment envelope system is quick and convenient and while the toilet and shower are both in garden sheds, they are both warm and cosy. We only saw the owner to wave to, but had no need for any other contact. The gateway into the site is tight so make sure you line up for it. Wifi is cheap and reliable with 4 channels. Two pubs nearby, but probably driving rather than walking distance, there are also 2 village shops, not sure why there is a 7 night stay rule for bank hols, by Easter Monday most vans had gone, still it was cheap enough to pay for 7 nights and go when you wanted. Happy to recommend this site and we would return.
A well laid out site and adjacent CL with a river running through which gives lovely outlook in good weather, but worrying in heavy rains.
This would be a good site if your caravan had full toilet and shower facilities, but as a previous review states, the toilet and shower facilities are basic to say the least, ie both housed in 6ftx4ft garden sheds. Cleanliness levels are obviously in the eye of the beholder.
This is a perfect choice for visiting the Northern Lakes, the site is nicely tucked away and is exceptionally well maintained, the owner is very laid back and friendly, and has obviously spent a of of time and money making this site what it is today - all services are high quality, and location is great for Carlisle, Penrith, even the Scottish Borders - if you want to stay in the Northern Lakes look no further!
We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed perfect weather, towing is easy, and the shower and toilet facilities need to be seen to believed!
All Pitches have Electric hook up, and all seem fairly level.
The site is split into the Cl area, and the Millrace which is open to all - we will definitely return
