After a year of absence due to work commitments, we made it back to the wonderful Banff Links site. The weather was bad, and it made no difference. The dog and I got soaked walking the very pleasant hike to Whitehills, but we didn't mind. We parked on our usual pitch between the sea and the burn, and just relaxed watching the waves rolling onto the huge beach.

A welcome return to Banff after 2/3 years. The site hasn't changed, despite new management. Staff a bit stand-offish. Toilet block just as basic, and water pressure very poor - had to stand almost with head against the wall to get wet - all showers the same. Reasonable site charges, although 3 per night for a very small porch awning is excessive.

The main area of the site, surrounding reception, gets a bit busy in peak season - we always park along towards the far end of the site, where is is much quieter.

Now the good news - what a place! Everything you need right there. Excellent (raw) fish shop and first class restaurant (Rockfish) at Whitehills. Wonderful beach, coastal villages, cycle tracks, walks, etc, etc. Historic attractions well within reach. Very good surfing club on the links - our son is hooked! Going back for the surfing in October.

Banff itself is looking a bit sad, run-down. We noticed the difference immediately. Co-op better than the poor Tesco. There is no butcher worth speaking of - nearest is Huntly, where there is also a decent Tesco, but worth the trip.

This site is a family friendly beach site. It is very easy to find. Clearly signposted from the A98 just West of Banff.

On arrival the reception was easy to spot and there was plenty of parking space available so I could go into the office. The friendly and helpful staff suggested a pitch that they thought would suit me and my family best. But they did say we could go to any vacant pitch we liked. I really like being able to choose my own pitch. There is a long straight road running parallel with the beach. There are pitches on both sides of this road. Pitches on the beach side are very close to the beach. A superb location with fantastic views. This is what attracted me to this site in the first place. I was a bit disappointed to discover that these pitches are on a rather steep slope up to the beach. This did not stop many others from levelling up there but I decided it was too much hassle for us. On the other side of the road were flat pitches with a burn running behind them. I decided theses were not suitable for us either because of the danger of the open water with our little girl. There was another area of pitches a short distance from the beach, very near the kids play area, that was perfect for us. It was this area that the staff had recommended originally. Very generous flat and level grass pitches with power and a water tap for every four pitches. Tv signal is no problem in this area.

The Kids play area is fantastic. Lots of things to do. The beach at this site is stunning.

Toilets and showers are very basic and clean. I'm really not a fan of taps where you need to continually keep the handle pressed to get water. Shower is a push button too. Each push lasts about a minute, water is hot and there is a good pressure.

The nearest town is Banff and it has a good selection of shops and eateries. The nearby village of Whitehall is a half hour walk from the site. Its a small fishing village and has the Sutherland Arms hotel which has outstanding food.

I did not notice any traffic other than site traffic using the site road, as stated in previous reviews. There is a sign now warning it is a private road for site traffic only. The only noise I heard at night was the sound of gentle crashing waves. Bliss!

What a great find! Spent 5 nights here WEF 19/9 & had amazing weather! The site is in a great location - right on the fantastic beach. The camping field without EHU is at the end of the road through the statics & caravans. If you wanted an EHU a pitch is allocated to you within this area.

Great, well drained, level pitches with fantastic views. You could have a campfire on the pebbly part of the beach judging by the fire rings - we didn't but used a BBQ.

There's a fantastic fish shop at Dowies in Whitehills about a mile away, a good chippy though we didn't try it on this occasion & the pub is good too with a lovely beer garden. Have a look in the art gallery/workshop too as it has some interesting items for sale.

The cost for a pitch was 12 a night with a 10 refundable deposit on the facilities key. The shower/toilet block were spotless at all times. The pressure in the showers was a bit poor but they were hot & free.

The nearest ATM is in Banff - none in Whitehills.

All in all a great site in a great location - we'll be back!

Have only just discovered this campsite & what a find it was! We have now had 3 visits here over the summer & each & everyone has been amazing.

We camped here with electric hook up with our 3 children's (5months, 2 & 9 year old), they absolutely love it here. We got a pitch close to the shop & these pitches were a good size. The beach is quite literally on your doorstep, very clean & it's huge! There is a brilliant park for the kids to enjoy just as you come into the site.

The couple that run the site are very friendly & helpful & not forgetting their wee doggie Skye who my son would take for a wee walk around the site. There is a small shop which stock your basics along with some toys & beach stuff, Ice lollies & cold drinks. All prices are very reasonable.

There are 2 main toilet & shower blocks with ample amount of showers & toilets, never had to wait to get into a shower even on 1 of our visits site was full & still never a queue. My only gripe about it is the sand, there is an warm outside shower to wash off the sand before going into the toilet block but sadly not everyone uses it. On our last visit there was notices up to ask people to use outdoor shower & no wetsuits allowed in showers. Hopefully people will adhere to this & will resolve the sand issue! Toilets are kept clean & tidy.

There is an outside washing up area with 2 sinks down by 2nd toilet block. Also on site there is a laundry with washing machines, tumble dryers & iron. A nice wee touch is there are washing lines throughout the site for everyone to use.

Loads of things to do around area, lovely walks & parks. We walked along the coastal path to the next wee village called Whitehills. Huge park here for kids & chip shop close by so we ate in the park. There is a Tesco & Coop about a mile from the site to get all your supplies!

We found this site a lot cheaper than many others we have been to. For a pitch with electric in June was 17 a night then in high season is 20.

Can't wait to go back here, one of our favourite sites to date.

Very friendly on arrival.

Nice clean site with safe access to the lovely sandy beach. Plus a great park at the other end so a must for kids

Toilets and shower were fine and in good clean working order.

Pitches are a bit small as allot of modem tents have extensions.

The on site shop was a real boost and well priced.

The cost for pitch was good for a four man tent it was only 12.

Down side the toilets are what feels miles away especially in the middle of the night and as a result everyone including the ladies are peeing behind the tents and the smell was strong with the heat.
