Off the beaten track and a relatively ordinary well drained square field. One might think. Until you get see the small but impeccably clean and 'green' facilities, (free hot showers plug point and collection point for freezing ice blocks). Oh, and get to meet the owners, but certainly this place is far from ordinary.
Both Cath and Dee had an amazing warmth, humour and genuine helpfulness. A vast knowledge of the area and recommended sights and places to eat made our lives easier- With plenty of on site bumf to read too.
Located a short drive from local towns of interest such as Falmouth, Pentrith and Turo and a 20 minute walk to the local pub serving quality food at moderate pricing. This is a great haven for those who want to socialise/ mix with other campers in the barn or for those who just want peace and quiet. It is a respectable place and should be treated as such.
We spent a total of two weeks amid, sun, wind and rain and realised just how wonderful it was to be totally ourselves in a safe environment. Now the standard has been set we are wondering how an earth other sites will compare!

Good places to stay can be hard to find but “Out in the open” is a real gem. Set in beautiful countryside down a windy track the campsite on a farm is a great peaceful, secluded space to stay. If you want get away and chill, this is the place to go.
When we turned up we had a very warm welcome from Cath & Dee who let us give our two dogs a good run before booking us in and showing us around the sites facilities.
The site itself is easily the most well kept and clean I have ever stayed in. Free hot showers, washing up facilities and toilets were kept spotlessly clean all the time and were far better than we had expected.
We had planned on days out walking with the dogs every day but found with four fields to tire them out we rarely had to leave the site and spent most of our time relaxing.
It has been a great way to recharge our batteries and are planning to return when we have a free weekend as it was great being there.

This has to be the best holiday I've had in years. The welcome was brilliant, the tent was up and looking fab, and the most important thing of all my dog Charley enjoyed it. We stayed for 7 days and I can't wait for next year. The facilities were so clean and very well looked after. Couple of really nice pubs / restaurants that again allowed dogs so Charley was very happy. Met some really nice people, who I've stayed in contact with. If your looking for a welcoming, friendly and safe place for a holiday then Out in the Open gets 5 stars from me an Charley

If you are looking for beautiful scenery, peace and quiet, fabulous location and exceptionally welcoming hosts this really is the place to be. We just spent a week in the company of Dee, Cath and Daisy (dog / teddy bear) and loved every minute of our stay (oh how we wished it had been longer). Having endured an eight-hour journey to get there we were absolutely ‘tickled pink’ with what we found. For those of you who think its too far away, think again- it is so worth the trip.
After a very warm welcome from the girls and a detailed tour of the site, we found our spot and pitched up. Pitch sizes are very generous. No ‘cram them in like sardines’ policy here. Although there were other campers, we managed to have a whole field to ourselves! Fabulous! In fact the one thing we loved was the peace and quiet. Please don’t visit if you are looking for late night parties and wild shenanigans. The ethos here is about having a good time without disturbing other campers or the environment. At the end of the day it’s all a matter of respect and mutual consideration.
Campsite facilities are immaculately clean and here’s something we have never experienced before – loo roll, hand wash, a towel in the toilets, first aid kits, washing up liquid provided in the kitchen area and Aloe Vera plants for sunburnt ankles! Basically, Dee and Cath have thought of everything! Think of everything you ever wished other campsites provided and we can guarantee that the girls have already got it covered. A shoe sale every week is an added bonus (we would have bought more if we had room in the Jeep to get them home) and they even provide a free ice-pack freezing service – now that’s a first!
Almost everything is recycled and there is just a real sense of environment here. There’s nothing fanatical about the ‘green’ rules, just a basic respect for the world. Seriously, when you see this place you’ll immediately understand why Cath and Dee are so keen to look after it and if you don’t, then shame on you. Do not go there if you are not prepared to do your bit to help!
Cath and Dee are fabulous hosts and we really looked forward to our evening chats with them. They were genuinely caring and it was lovely to be asked if we had had a nice day. There is a certain personal touch with Cath and Dee that we have just never experienced at other sites. They are happy to offer a wealth of information on the local area and the best places to visit. We strongly recommend ‘The Handy Tea Shop’ by the way. It serves amazing cream teas and is a little quirky to say the least! Don’t be perturbed if the owner does a near nose-dive into the cream; this is all perfectly normal in this part of the world (or so we are led to believe).
We could go on about ‘Out in The Open’ for hours but it would be unfair for us to reveal all of its delights. To understand it is to experience it and having stayed there, we are extremely grateful to the girls for letting us share their amazing home with us. We will definitely be back next year, and the year after, and the year after…….Wow!

What a fantastically clean, relaxing and welcoming site.
The girls made us both feel extremely welcome, and made sure that everything was to our total satisfaction throughout our first of what will be many, many stays on this site.
It is in an excellent location for travelling round and seeing the touristy bits, but also quiet and peaceful on the site for days when you just want to chill on the farm.
Cath & Dee have an excellent knowledge of the best places to go, eg, the handy tea-shop, the deli, and, of course, where to go for the best sea-fishing trips!
It is delightful to find such a clean, quiet, peaceful and respectful site.

A lovely site within a peaceful location. Facilities very well kept and modern. Plenty of information for things going on out and about. Owners lovely and friendly - had a welcomed chat and tour from Dee and came to check on us later to check we was ok. Only downside (for us) was no chemical disposal facilities and when your so used to NOT HAVING TO RUN ACROSS THE FIELD AT 4AM it was a big one for us. Would def recommend this site for getting away from it all
