Lovely site, brilliant park for the kids, lots of different climbing frames, swings and a skateboard ramp!
Toilets very clean and well kept, just a niggle that the silicone in the showers could do with replacing, bit black in places. Kept very clean though and dry floors considering how many I saw use them.
Shop on site very well stocked with essentials, non essentials and camping equipment must haves.
Lovely fish and chip van reasonably priced visits on Saturday evenings, can recommend.
Only sore point with park was that the surrounding farms were muck spreading which you could not escape from! Our tent, car and clothes all stank by the end of the weekend, not something that can be controlled by the site but it will be a question we will ask when booking next!
First camping trip we have taken in 2 years and so glad we picked this site. We went with another couple and had 5 children between us aged 9 month to 6 years old. My wife is pregnant and the wardens were excellent in picking out the best spot for our pitch. They even provided additional porta-loos due to the amount of campers over the bank holiday and made sure they dropped one close enough to our tent for my wife's comfort.
The playground was a huge success will all of the children, especially the 6 year olds as they had their first taste of freedom. The playground is ideally situated near the back of the site and is visible from most pitches.
The toilet block was always warm, clean, and the water was hot. The additional porta-loos were situated in a couple of easy to reach places and all were kept in a pretty good condition. The wardens checked them regularly as with the toilet block.
The on site shop is also the local village shop and was well stocked for everything you could need. If not the nearest town is not far.
The chip van was on site Saturday but expect big queues. We drove into town and still managed to beat most of the people in the queue. A couple next to us used the local takeaway service and food was delivered right up to their tent (will have to try that next time).
The field is flat, soft and has excellent drainage. This weekend we had horrific rain all day and night, yet the field was not boggy the next day.
All in all a very good site and we will definitely be coming back in the future.
I'm staying on site with my husband and 4 children as I type! I have full phone and internet signal except In the toilet block not that I need it in there! My 4 children ages 13, 10, 7 and 5 are happily playing in the park where they have made lots of little friends to play with! The site is fairly busy everyone very polite, warden was very helpful on arrival yesterday and made you feel very welcome toilet and shower blocks very clean and fresh water lovely and warm. Shop is fantastic well stocked and not over priced! We will come and revisit this site again soon.
This was our second year using this site for a large group of family and friends. It seems that word has got around what a great place it is - this year there were less vacant pitches! However there was still plenty of space for a game of cricket, football, touch rugby etc. Facilities are clean and tidy and the staff friendly and helpful.
A warden is now in place to ensure everyone keeps the noise down at night and ensure that any fires do not get out of hand. He was approachable and friendly.
All in all a great little site with family in mind.
Having visited this site in the dead of winter and stayed in the orchard area it was difficult to imagine what it would be like in the middle of the summer.
The welcome was friendly and helpful. We were given an extension for our EHU and a very large area in which to site our tents, day tent and tarp. The charge of £12 per night and £15 with EHU is very reasonable and there are no extra charges. The arrangement of the tents around the edge of the very large field and some down the middle works well; there are large open spaces and in spite of a large number of people it does not feel crowded. It is ideal for large parties but we would be very happy to camp here on our own. The main sounds are of children playing happily. Neither our six young grand children nor the adults discovered any sign of barbed wire. We do accept that because the field is so large there may be a little bit somewhere.
We feel that comments about facilities are usually of the nit picking variety and we found them to be perfectly adequate. Paul told us that they are thinking of providing an extra block.
We spent a very enjoyable weekend at this site and will return.
We chose this site because weíd never visited the area before. As C&C members, decided against their St Neots site as not value for money at £22 per night. Top End Farm cost us £15 per night (2 adults, tent, EHU). We stayed five nights, arriving Monday. Note: during less busy periods, you have until 4pm to vacate Top End Farm.
The owners and ownerís daughters were lovely and welcoming. You find them in the shop. Wardens werenít on-site during our stay mid-week so canít comment.
We were pitched in the hedged enclosure with two other units. No one was on the large field. So, our comments are based on it not being busy.
Facilities wise, good. We take the point about there being no surfaces around the two hand basins in the Gents but there was room enough for our needs plus a hook for towel. Showers are of the push-button variety, which are not our favourite. However, the water was lovely and hot and the water pressure very good. There is also plenty of room to manoeuvre.
They have other good facilities too. Internally, there are three sinks with loads of hot water. Ok, they may take a while to fill, but hey. Rather have slow fill hot water than fast fill tepid. Also, there is a freezer for freezing ice packs. No charge. C&C take note. Outside the facilities block, there are two external cold water sinks.
The farm shop is probably the most stocked shop weíve ever come across on a site. Itís also the village shop and itís like a mini-mart. Prices are what you would expect from a village shop or, indeed, your local corner shop. Shop shuts at 6pm of a week day.
Site shop not enough? Thereís a butcher and a Post Office in the near village, Gt Staughton. Turn left out of the camp site and leave the village. At the T-junction, turn right for St Neots. Pass the church in Gt Staughton on your right, go over bridge and at the junction, signed left for Northampton, turn right toward St Neots. Gilberts Butcher on your left. Post Office is 200 yards further down on the right.
Want supermarkets? Two in St Neots: Cooperative and Waitrose. Drive over the bridge spanning the River Ouse and head left after Beadles department store. Want bigger? Then head down the A1 South to the next junction and take the A428 Cambridge. Thereís a huge Tesco Extra off the second roundabout.
We disagree with there being little to do in the area. We also would not expect the site to have some responsibility for what is or what isnít to do in the area. We research the location beforehand and decide what weíd like to see and do. Consequently, we found a great deal to do and places to visit. Some were local. Others were a drive away. We were there for a week. Had we had extra time, we wouldnít have been stuck for what to do.
Criticisms. We have two and both are minor for us. Firstly, donít advertise internet connectivity. Thereís an issue with it, which isnít going to be resolved soon. Take it off your advertisement until itís sorted. Secondly, improve the information kiosk. Itís not just for flyers for the local take-aways.
