We stopped here having been warned by the owner that it was basic. Well I have been to more basic that claim to be better!

Ok the site has no bells and whistles, it has all you need for a relaxed time. A 5 minute walk to the local pub, shop and chip shop.

We had a great pitch, you pitch anywhere you like very relaxed.

Bear in mind, hardly any mobile signal, hardly and radio signal, no ATM in the village at all!

The toilets and showers were fine, 1 for the shower but the very low cost of pitch more than fair.

We loved it for what it was. We had brilliant weather which helped of course.

We came up for the Arrochar Alps hill race and camped here for a couple of nights. We arrived at about 9. 15pm and received a friendly welcome at the house.

The facilities were good (even the old toilet block was ok, and the shower was free!)

Local shops are good. It's worth the extra walk to have a few pints at the Village Inn at the other end of the village.

The only thing that's lacking is a dedicated washing up area. This is presumably because most people are in caravans rather than tents.

We were quite surprised how many midges there were, considering it was July on the west coast of Scotland!

Overall, excellent value for a fiver.

Camped here as a solo backpacker for a few nights while walking in the area, for my purposes it did the job.

It is rather basic, but only 5 a night. Space for tents is fairly limited amongst the varied collection of static caravans, but being the only camper on site I had no problem finding a quiet spot.

I arrived while the snack bar at the front of the site was still open (before 1600) so could pay there and didn't have to venture to the 'big house'. I received a friendly welcome and was given as key to the new toilet block. This needed a 10 deposit which is fair enough, and the facilities were smart and clean (1 a shower is more than usual though but it is all new). I cant comment on the older facilities as I had no need to use them, though as others have mentioned the area round the 'big house' didn't look too inviting.

The snack bar opens at 0800 for cheap breakfasts, and the site is just across the road from Loch Long and minutes walk from useful shops. I didn't visit the nearest bar (Ben Arthurs), instead I walked a couple of miles down the Loch to the Village Inn which was cosy and friendly with local ales and good food.

OK, it's not the prettiest site and there is some noise from the nearby road but as somewhere to pitch while exploring the nearby mountains I'd stay again.

I don't know what other people think but this camp site is fantastic value for money.

You get what you pay for, that's why I am going back time and time again, each time is different the weather wont spoil it for me or the family, the area has fantastic views of the loch long and the arrochar alps.

Admittedly the camp site is very basic not much there but as stated, scenery is great, I and the family will be back there in august and we will enjoy every day we are there no matter what,

local shops are friendly towards us strangers, and so are the pubs, there are a few local pubs, but I really love the ben arthurs bothy

very warm and friendly with great views over looking loch long, excellent food, and freezing cold ales.

Read previous reviews but as it was a couple of blokes, with not very high standards, camping to do a bit of walking thought it would be ok. How wrong was I! Arrived about 5pm, nothing open but was directed up to 'big house'.

Could see stove on through door but no answer. Took walk round back were we saw 'toilet and shower block'. It was beyond description and the dog waste at the door swung it for us.

There is a new shower block connected to a snack bar at the front but this was locked. Overall the site looked shabby, grass not cut, statics moss covered etc.

This was two weeks before Easter weekend so season may not have started yet but regardless of the beautiful location Arrocher looking a bit tired. Ben Arthur Bothy, nice lounge, good food, decent Guinness.

I spent 9 days at this site, yes its very basic, but for only 4 per person per night its good enough.

There is a new toilet / shower block, but its not yet completely finished, it will be great when it is finished as its clean and modern.

The old toilet / shower block is very rundown (converted outbuildings) and have no heating.

There is a very good snack shop on site next to the petrol station, where you can get a full breakfast for 3.50, or Bacon & Egg rolls for just 1.50 plus other rolls and drinks (they make a lovely cup of tea).

There is a small shop about 100 yards up the road where you can get basic foods and newspaper, lottery.

There is also a small post office/ shop about 200 yards from the site.

There are several guest houses and Hotels all within 500 yards who's restaurants / Bars are open to non-residents.

I did several stunning walks from the site, I think you could do a different walk every day for a week without even using your car, so if you like walking and don't mind very basic facilities, then this could be ideal for you.

They don't allow groups only family's and couples.
