Lovely site teeming with wild life. We stayed 4 nights Tuesday to Saturday and it was nice and quiet, until Friday evening when the weekenders started to arrive then it really filled up. The wardens were fantastic, nothing too much trouble, really helpful. Shop sold basics, news papers to order.
The toilets and showers are dated but kept spotless by the wardens, ( some people forget to clean up after them selves. )
No play area but lots to keep little ones interested watching wild life, and nearby Forbidden Corner is a must, even for big kids. Nice walk to Leyburn, about 20 mins. You can get all you need or eat out. Pub 5 mins walk away, take a torch for return journey.
It rained a lot one night so some flooding on a couple of pitches, nothing that a few tons of gravel and improvements to drainage would not fix, but that needs the owners to provide funding. Remember this site is only managed by the caravan club.
Approach road is narrow, no passing places. No problem if you leave before 12 and arrive after 12. Tent area at top of site looked fairly level.
Would return, and will soon.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this lovely site.
Pitched up on #61 *close to the disabled toilet* under a HUGE sycamore tree which blocked the little sun we did see this weekend, but that didn't bother us as it kept the inside of the van cool.
The site itself is beautiful and wildlife popping up at all hours of the day, it was great. Bunnies, Moorhens, Ducks, Hedgehogs, Pheasants, Owls *though only heard* and all coming very close to the van if coaxed with a little shredded wheat or bread, my son thought this was great.
Toilets were always spotlessly clean and fine not modern but they served their purpose well. However I would say a window in the disabled toilet wouldn't go amiss as it gets incredibly hot in there and the extractor fan doesn't really do a great deal.
Not much for kiddies to do on the site but there are plenty of places to visit, Forbidden Corner is a must, we all had much fun navigating our way around, getting incredibly wet, definite must for all ages. We visited Easby Abbey also, what a beautiful place.
The drive into the site is a little hairy, made 100 times worse on our arrival due to not being able to see far in front due to bad weather. Also our first time pulling a van and our sat nav brought us through Richmond and down the meanest looking bank in torrential rain, it made our journey there a little nerve wracking but coming home we came through Bedale to avoid it.
All in all it is a great site with friendly wardens and we will certainly be back again in the future. Free range eggs from the shop are delicious and a must for scrambled egg in the morning.

Our 2nd visit to this lovely site and we were not disappointed.
The friendly wardens work hard to keep the site looking clean and tidy, with recycling on site. Shower block spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water even though the site was pretty full over the weekend.
Pitches are on different levels, and most of them have electric hookup. There is a separate area for tents.
The site is run on behalf of the Caravan Club, but non members are welcome.
Lots of good walks in the area, and excellent bus service from nearby Leyburn.
Child friendliness only 9 out of 10 because there is no playground, but there's plenty of room for kids to run about or ride their bikes.

A lovely site with pitches on different levels, some of the pitches quite secluded. Toilet block was kept immaculately clean, with lovely hot showers.
The wardens were very helpful, and will order newspapers for you if you want.
Ducks and moorhens visited every day, from the little stream at the edge of the site.
15 minute walk into Leyburn where you can buy almost anything you could possibly need. The fish shop is one of the best we have ever tried!
There is a really good bus service in the area, so you can do a good walk then catch the bus back. We got the bus from Leyburn to Richmond, an interesting place with it's castle and the falls on the river Swale.
Lots of lovely walks in the area - Leyburn Shawl and Wensley is a super one! We spotted a kingfisher and a dipper on our walk down the river from Middleham to Wensley.

The road into the site is tight and steep, single track so a bit hairy if you meet someone coming the other way as reversing a motorhome down a steep winding bank isn't fun.
The check in was nice, welcoming and efficient until the point where we were told to pitch our unit with the back drivers side corner to the pitch marker - no exceptions. Well, this may suit caravanners with a front end lounge but for those with rear view lounges or like us, side opening doors it left us stuck viewing a fence, some shrubbery a the static vans on the neighbouring site. Some flexibility would have been appreciated as most CC sites allow you to pitch either way as long as it isn't side on.
The shower block was a bit dated but clean but my big problem with it was that the door to the toilet block was continually fastened open wide (it was a bit whiffy) and as the shower cubicles are the closest ones to the door this led to a rather cold and miserable shower, which was a shame as they were powerful and the water was nice and hot, but the shower curtain kept blowing onto me as I showered as there was a breeze in the shower block - I rushed back to my van to get warm (closing the toilet block door on the way, only to find it locked open again on my next visit. Not acceptable for the last weekend in October in Yorkshire!
Although there was nothing terribly wrong with this site, I doubt we will return as it didn't suit us personally but I am sure others would like it.

Had a pleasant week - first time at this site. Initially had to pitch-up in a shady spot next to the railway as it was bank holiday weekend, but several pitches became vacant the following day so we moved to a sunny spot. As the site is in a quarry, the sunny pitches are few and far between.
As mentioned in other reviews, the toilet block is a little dated - but everything in working order and I think the showers are the warmest, most powerful seen on a caravan site for some time.
We did the usual visits - Aysgarth Falls, Forbidden corner and Thorp Perrow (this was the Tue following bank hol monday and it was really quiet. Lovely walks through the trees and only our family and one other watched the pirds of prey show. This meant our 2 kids each held onto a falcon!)
Only drawback was - I got the feeling the staff couldn't allow the children to have a bit of freedom. They complained about them riding their bikes or exploring between the trees and one evening at 5.30 they were told 'it's too late to be playing around here, you should go back to your caravan now'!)
Wouldn't go again with kids.
Lovely walking country - short on bridleways for mountain-biking in the near vicinity.
