Small friendly site with easy access to wonderful walking trails and the Tissington trail for a spot of cycling. On the Buxton to Ashbourne bus route.

Ate in the pub two nights, good food with generous portions.

Facilities a little basic, only two showers for each sex, could do with a shelf or small table to hold clothes etc. Toilets very clean, shared with pub but 24 hr access for campers.

Ground a bit soggy after heavy rain, hard standing pitches but could do with better connection from the pitches to the access track.

We had a wonderful 3 day break and will definitely be back.

We have no children but site might be difficult, no special facilities and direct access onto pub car park and road.

I reviewed this site in 2008 and had visited it several times over a period of years.

At the time I gave it 9 stars. However it is now under new management and I have to say that in my latest visit I was distincly unimpressed.

The site, facilities and pub are all looking a little uncared for. The new owner does not come over as friendly, in fact rather curt and superior.

The meals were always simple, wholesome and good value but have become overpriced considering the range and surroundings.

Previously the site had always been quiet but this time, although I accept it may have been a one-off, we were kept awake until well past midnight.

Sadly this has put me off visiting this site again.

Just spent 4 nights at the Waterloo Inn, site is in a lovely location. Toilets and showers need updating but you can live with this.

1 member of staff needs to improve her customer service skills, 3 other couples visited alongside us, all agreed that they would not be returning due to lack of friendliness of this person.

All agreed that this was a shame as site was in good location.

Lots to do in area especially if you like walking.

We were not impressed at all by site. The site was very unkept - long grass, tall weeds everywhere. There were no views at all from campsite. The Waterloo is a pub with food but same as campsite pub is very tired and could do with a bit of TLC. Toilets are the pub ones, which are situated outside the pub therefore used by all and sundry (this campsite is on a walking trail), thank goodness we can use our own facilities. Toilets and showers are open all day for everybody to use even if you do not use the pub! They are only closed out of pub hours.

A lot of uncut trees around site therefore when rains it sounds like ping pong balls on caravan. We booked for a 7 nights and only stayed 4, we left and found a much nicer site for last 3 nights. The landlady did not seem at all bothered about our concern.

We stayed Saturday and Sunday night bank holiday weekend. This is a superb little camp / caravan site and only charged 12. 50 per night for a 4 man tent. You get what you pay for the toilets were clean and the showers were too. There is a pot washing facility which was also clean.

The pub is lovely and although we didn't have any food, what we saw were generous portions and smelt lovely. The beer isn't over priced and the pool table was free.

The owner and staff were friendly and very helpful. Yes the cockerels do crow from very early in the morning - but you expect this if you are out in the country.

Will definitely return - superb weekend. There is a garage down the road which sold hot pies, bread etc and there is a village about 2 miles down the road.

Excellent location for Stanton moor and ashbourne, bakewell etc.

I was very impressed when booking in as although they were very busy at the weekend and the camping area was full they allowed us to book a caravan pitch and camp on the grass where the awning would be.

When we arrived I was so glad we had that done so as the camping area was tiny and very cramped with all the tents pitched there, if we had of taken our main tent we would never of fitted on the area.

The toilets were damp but clean (only 1 toilet in the men's and 2 in ladies). The Showers are small and old but again clean although only 1 has the shower head attached to the wall with the other hanging so you have to hold if you wish to use.

The main complaint and a real problem which no one else seems to have commented on are the 3 cockerels and 5 hens which are allowed to roam the site at all times and as the pub generator switched off around 12.45 am'ish the cockerels commenced their calls from 2 am. Yes all 3 as one stopped the next took its turn, suffice to say we were up and gone by 9am
