We stopped for 2 nights at the site on arrival our pitch was marked for us as the owner wasn't on site. We had a .great view over the beach and out towards Islay and Jura. The facilities are adequate, clean and tidy. Shower/toilet block, pot washing area and chemical disposal.

The site is situated about half way down the kintyre peninsula and a good location for seeing the whole of the area and just 10 minutes to the ferry stop for gigha - a must for visitors to kintyre.

The fact that there is no warden on site isn't really great but we had no problems and the walk down the beach with the dogs in the evening is lovely.

All in all a good value basic site with a great location for touring the area.

This is a nice small site with a combination of static caravans, seasonal tourers and touring/tent pitches. Direct beach access and brilliant views over to Islay and Jura. On a good day, fantastic views to Ireland. The site has all grass pitches with enough electric hook ups. Non- electric pitches also. The ground is quite soft, so good drainage but also need good pegs to 'stick'. Shower/Toilet block has two showers (only know of Ladies' facilities) and enough toilets and sinks. Never had to cue even though quite a few people on site. Showers are free and water is hot at all times. Small outside wash up area and a chemical disposal point which also doubles as grey water disposal. Brilliant price. Anne is a very nice lady, she came to collect our money after we arrived and a few days in to check if everything was ok. Other than that you are left alone. No activities on site, nearest shop with cafe is about a mile away and Campbeltown with a Tesco about 15-20 minutes drive.

After having been to this site five years running and at every possible school holiday, I have a better understanding of the pros and cons, than I did in previous reviews.

The site is very basic, no shop, reception, laudry facility(closest is Daavar Laundry in Campbeltown) or playpark.

The electricity isn't at normal power and will dip if you have a kettle and heating on.

Add time to your microwave minutes, about 2minutes extra is required at all times.

There are three water taps for the tents and tourers to share, although if two are in use at any one time, flow is slow and the third tap dry.

The touring ground is pitted with holes that flood to ankle depth when it rains.

I have had on many occasions awning space that is full of water.

It isn't always acceptable to move to a dryer spot due to the fact that spaces all include a pitted hole.

The actual space allocated isn't clearly marked out, which can lead to problems when siting the caravan.

The bin on the site is heavy and awkward to lift the lid.

Anyone with poor upper body strength or a disability would find it near impossible to use.

There is no safety measures in place for the children on the site, as many people speed through the caravan site to the farm, or to walk their dogs, or just to access their caravans.

The entrance and exit to the site is also dangerous, an accident occurred just this summer.

Nothing has been put in place to maintain the safety of the people staying at the site.

The toilet blocks are basic, and with only two showers, gets very busy in high to mid season.

The showers are not as clean as they could be either, with the bucket and mop just adding to this.

The site suffers from high winds and a storm strap is required almost all of the time.

There is no wifi and many mobiles have a poor signal.

Glenbarr has a local shop, post office and cafe, although currently up for sale.

Campbeltown has two supermarkets, a swimming pool and very few places to enjoy a good meal.

That is all the negative points.

The view is utterly stunning.

We stayed at Killegruer in late May 2015 for 3 nights. The owner, Ann, was there when we arrived and made sure that we were settled in and showed us around. She also arranged for us to be close to the facilities as my wife has a blue badge. Ann was very helpful and welcoming excellent owner.

All the pitches are on grass looking out over the Irish Sea to Islay. It was lovely watching the sunset out of the van over the sea to Islay stunning. There are a number of pitches with EHU but there is also a field further down the site for no electric and tents. The pitches are generally on the flat with good drainage. You are right over the beach and although you can orientate your van which way you want I would recommend putting the front towards the sea for excellent views. A small word of warning it can get very windy here and you may need a storm strap for your awning suggest you check the weather for your visit. The major draw is the closeness to the beach and water, where the children can enjoy themselves.

The facilities are clean and well maintained, but there is only 2 showers in each side and no laundry there is one in Campbeltown.

This campsite is an excellent base to tour the Kintyre peninsular. Campbeltown and the Mull of Kintyre are just down the coast. Campbeltown is the nearest supermarket for groceries and there is also a nice coffee shop there by the harbour.

Reading through the reviews already posted tells the story of a stay at Killegruer. I can only add that our experience was excellent. Loved the fantastic view from our pitch, the friendliness we found, with a special mention and thanks to the lovely couple who gave us a freshly caught trout which we very much enjoyed. We visited the Mull of Kintyre lighthouse, worth the drive on single track roads, Campbeltown, Machrihanish and Southend, where we had a nice lunch at the Muneroy Tea Rooms. The shop in Muasdale is very well stocked, even a microwave to heat up your snacks. Back to Killegruer, Ann, the owner, couldn't be more helpful. Most people we spoke to had either had a static there for many years, or tourers who were on return visits. We will certainly be back. Thank you for a super stay.

As asked constructive criticism first a wee stool in the shower so you don't have to hop about to dry your feet and put your socks on 2 that's about it now the good bits stunning location, a relaxing and not to rule obsessed site, most vans were turned wrong way round to look out to sea, and catch the views over islay, jura and ierland, the owner ann went out of her way to make sure her guests were enjoying there stay and apologised for her absence due to volunteer duties at the commonwealth games, nice flat site, beach assess at either end of site, which was great for our two staffies to bomb around on, also the Argyll beach hotel, a dooable walk along the beach was dog friendly with good food at a great price, the owners and staff were friendly and spot on with the service the site has limited facilities for kids or night clubs for adults, but if you want a relaxed holiday in a lovely unspoiled part of Scotland, then come here youll love it. The long drive from Aberdeen was worth it and the welcome from the owner and the regulars on site would be hard to beat, we found this one of the best sites we have visited and with one free night if you book over seven, great value as well highly recommended and we will come back
