Visited in largish 3 family group for 5 nights.

Really great place - highly recommended - quirky, individual pitches - campfires - very picturesque (if cool) pool.

I agree with the positive previous reviews - read them for detailed tips.

It is a large and varied site so expect to spend some time roaming when you arrive if you want to find the pitch that best suits.

Owner is lovely chap - very easy going and helpful.

My summary would be - if you don't enjoy this place then maybe camping is not for you.

My family (2 adults and 3 children aged 7, 5, 3) just got back from 10 nights at Campix, and we had a fantastic time; so much so that apart from a day out in Paris and popping to Lidl for supplies, we didn't leave the site for the whole time!

The site is a mixture of different size and shape pitches, some single pitches surrounded by trees, others in groups of 3 or 4 and a couple of larger fields of up to 12 pitches. The areas are on different levels, and some do involve some narrow/steep access ways which may challenge bigger vehicles, but there were others that were quite flat and open, particularly near the reception/toilets. The pitches themselves were pretty flat, although due to being a disused quarry, expect a few bent tent pegs!

Because of our rig and the spaces available when we arrived we picked a pitch in a large(ish) field at the far end of the site. We had loads of space and hardly any neighbours, probably because of the quarter mile walk to get to the toilets - but we didn't let this put us off, and considered it a way of keeping active.

On 2 occasions the corner of the field was used by large groups of Venture Scout/School Trip Age, but on neither occasion were these groups noisy, after dark, and were out most of the day.

My 3 boys loved the space, plenty of room for cricket and running around. They spent time every day 'adventuring' in the trees and collecting wood for the campfire (a huge hit to be allowed a campfire!). The pool was clean, although unheated (but the kids didn't seem to notice) and well kept. The park was well maintained too, with the huge slide and fort in the trees being very well enjoyed by my lot. Toilets and free showers were clean (serviced 2x a day) and at busy times they opened a second set on the other side of the building - but take your own handwash. The shower cubicles are small, but the one at the far end is fractionally bigger, so if you are showering with kids in tow, aim for this one. Water was plenty warm enough, but not hot, and the heater kept the shower room warm.

The manager spoke excellent English, and was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us great advice about transport into Paris and other things to do locally (had we wanted to go anywhere). There was a little shop, with most supplies you could need, wine, ice creams and camping gas. We ate at the cafe on the last night, the food was simple, hot and tasty, all that we needed.

There is a very easy walk from the top end of the site to Lidl - quicker than taking the car in fact, but relatively steep on the way back, so great if you are doing a small daily shop.

The town is pretty and has some interesting buildings/museum, we didn't visit these so I can't comment on the quality, but I think we would go if we go back - which if I have any say in it, we will.

I would definitely recommend this site if you don't like overly structured sites and are in the market for a more relaxed experience.

Just a great site, not to everyone's taste I'm sure.

Plus: great location, very convenient to Paris, but in the country. Friendly owner, speaks good English, very helpful and welcoming. Site is very unusual, built into an old chalk quarry. Pitches are large and varied, certainly not regimented and natural cover. Very quiet apart from trains in the distance and occasional military aircraft flying overhead. Good flat pitches in most cases. Clean facilities. Other comments about only warm water in showers are correct but perfectly adequate. Great walking and cycling directly from the site. Lidl and village shops in easy walking distance, church worth a visit. Open fires allowed creates a real, old fashioned campsite feel.

Minus: not much. Usual low current electricity, only 6A in common with many French sites, so be careful about how many appliances used at the same time. Site 'roads' are dirt tracks, quite steep in places so big units will struggle. Long walk to toilets from area G, but easily worth it for the pitches!

Can we come back please?

This place is a gem of a find!

Lovely clean site that has also allowed it to be very natural!

Showers and toilets are both clean and a pleasure to have a nice warm shower.

Great children's play area and a spotlessly clean swimming pool.

You can find your own pitch and you can have fires/BBQ's

Owner was there to greet us on arrival and was very welcoming and helpful with local knowledge of places to visit, shops, etc.

It is a little hard to find but it is so worth it. Lots of nature including red squirrels

Very local to Chantilly which is a gorgeous place to visit with it's Chateaux and Stables.

Having booked this campsite and then read the tripadvisor reviews, all I say is don't judge a book by its cover.

Amazing find for proper camping experience. We were in a touring caravan but the electric kettle and toaster are a bit too much for the electricity there. So gas it was and we had 4 days of fun here. A visit to Parc Asterix is around 20 minutes away, Paris around an hour and a cycle/walking track from the site to the local village on bike was around 10 minutes or less with young kids. Lovely village with a Carrefour, Aldi, a couple of shops, ATM and bars/tabacs and boulangerie.

Pool on site is around 22 degrees, so heated by sun.

Brilliant play areas for children with the large slide on site using all contours of the old quarry faces.

Gentleman owner works very hard and is very helpful for local area, very passionate about your stay and ideas of what to do.

Chantilly town is a definite worthy visit, twinned with Epsom for the horse racing - stunning entrance to the village from the Paris area.

Snack bar on site with small shop facility and bread/croissants etc was also very adequate.

Toilet and washing facilities were ideal, never had a cold shower and washing machine and tumble dryer was also adequate.

This campsite took us a while to find, situated at the back of a housing estate, but what a find! We loved it. The friendly owner let us choose anywhere to camp. Pitches were in the open, on a cliff and in the woods. Hardly wild camping but it did have that feel. We chose a secluded pitch with its own natural rock balcony overlooking the pool.

We arrived late so chose to eat in the cafe on site. It was the usual deep fried fayre but not inedible. We wanted to go to parc Astrix so we bought tickets at the campsite at a reduced rate. The kids loved the play area and the pool in its dramatic setting of the old quarry.

Usual facilities such as showers, toilets, sinks, dish washing areas were clean and as the site was pretty empty, plentiful. The nearest town was a ten minute drive away with lovely patisseries and small bars. Even a Lidl to grab those bargains!

The weather was cold and wet but this didn't stop us enjoying this very cute campsite!
