Can we come back please?

This place is a gem of a find!

Lovely clean site that has also allowed it to be very natural!

Showers and toilets are both clean and a pleasure to have a nice warm shower.

Great children's play area and a spotlessly clean swimming pool.

You can find your own pitch and you can have fires/BBQ's

Owner was there to greet us on arrival and was very welcoming and helpful with local knowledge of places to visit, shops, etc.

It is a little hard to find but it is so worth it. Lots of nature including red squirrels

Very local to Chantilly which is a gorgeous place to visit with it's Chateaux and Stables.

Having booked this campsite and then read the tripadvisor reviews, all I say is don't judge a book by its cover.

Amazing find for proper camping experience. We were in a touring caravan but the electric kettle and toaster are a bit too much for the electricity there. So gas it was and we had 4 days of fun here. A visit to Parc Asterix is around 20 minutes away, Paris around an hour and a cycle/walking track from the site to the local village on bike was around 10 minutes or less with young kids. Lovely village with a Carrefour, Aldi, a couple of shops, ATM and bars/tabacs and boulangerie.

Pool on site is around 22 degrees, so heated by sun.

Brilliant play areas for children with the large slide on site using all contours of the old quarry faces.

Gentleman owner works very hard and is very helpful for local area, very passionate about your stay and ideas of what to do.

Chantilly town is a definite worthy visit, twinned with Epsom for the horse racing - stunning entrance to the village from the Paris area.

Snack bar on site with small shop facility and bread/croissants etc was also very adequate.

Toilet and washing facilities were ideal, never had a cold shower and washing machine and tumble dryer was also adequate.

This campsite took us a while to find, situated at the back of a housing estate, but what a find! We loved it. The friendly owner let us choose anywhere to camp. Pitches were in the open, on a cliff and in the woods. Hardly wild camping but it did have that feel. We chose a secluded pitch with its own natural rock balcony overlooking the pool.

We arrived late so chose to eat in the cafe on site. It was the usual deep fried fayre but not inedible. We wanted to go to parc Astrix so we bought tickets at the campsite at a reduced rate. The kids loved the play area and the pool in its dramatic setting of the old quarry.

Usual facilities such as showers, toilets, sinks, dish washing areas were clean and as the site was pretty empty, plentiful. The nearest town was a ten minute drive away with lovely patisseries and small bars. Even a Lidl to grab those bargains!

The weather was cold and wet but this didn't stop us enjoying this very cute campsite!

We found this campsite via UK Campsite's website and the reviews are generally accurate but I thought I'd add a new one based on our experience.

The campsite is generally very good but I thought I'd lay out the review as pros and cons:

- There was a great atmosphere around the campsite and there were some great secluded pitches, if you could get one. (See cons)

- The pool was clean and tidy although cold, even in August.

- The shop was useful.

- The receptionist (owner?) spoke very good English and was very helpful.

- The pitches were not highly regimented and open fires were okay, even encouraged. There was a wood pile just for this.

- It was pretty close to Paris. Because most of Paris goes on holiday in August we drove in and parked near the Arc de Triomphe, for free. There were still a lot of tourists mind!

- The butcher in Saint Leu d'Esserent was fantastic! Fresh and prepared on premises, we had two barbeques and had beef, chicken and duck kebabs as well as Veal burgers.

- Shop was a tad expensive. €4. 80 for 4 (albeit very large) croissants. There were supermarkets near by which were far less expensive but obviously there was a quality difference.

- Very stony ground. Hey, it's an old quarry. Bring adequate pegs and a proper hammer.

- The site wasn't as big as I thought but there were plenty of free pitches. Some of the best ones were gone of course but that's not the fault of the campsite.

- Did I mention the pool was cold!

Overall, I would definitely recommend this campsite. We didn't explore the local area much as it was only Paris we wanted to see on this short trip. There was plenty else close by.

After a rather tortuous journey, we eventually arrived at Campix. Access is a little fraught with a large motorhome!

The campsite is rather sprawling; emplacements are not clearly demarcated. Electricity points were difficult to spot.

It is deeply shaded, adjacent to a disused quarry. It is well suited for walking and cycling. It has a very relaxed air.

The facilities were good. Staff at Reception were friendly and helpful.

The motorhome service point was difficult to find and to access.

It is well located to explore interesting places nearby, such as the impressive Chantilly.

Not an easy site to find so not ideal for a night halt which is what we were hoping for. The road in is single track so would have been a problem if anything like a coach was coming the other way.

The site itself is quite quirky the pitches are not clearly marked and got the impression that you more or less set up camp where you wanted although some of the pitches were quite difficult to manoeuvre into. I think campers with tents would really enjoy it as a lot of people had open fires etc. The facilities were first class and the owner very welcoming and friendly and spoke good English.
