When I see such negative reviews ( there are a couple here), I sometimes wonder if we went to the same campsite!

We called in en-route from the south without a booking. Arrived in a huge thunderstorm and torrential rain. Owner told us to park anywhere we fancied and check-in with him when the rain had abated. This we eventually did. No problems. Decided to try their home cooked take-away. Only €8 and VERY GOOD SIZE PORTIONS and excellent taste. We found the small bar to be cosy and not unrealistic prices.

The heavens opened up most of the night with very heavy rains. In the morning, we expected to see a lake outside, but the pitches had drained very well and driving on and off was NO PROBLEM.

We liked the site so much that we decided to stay another night. Yes, the showers and toilet buildings look a little dated but they work perfectly well, are very clean and are most adequate. Unlike most French sites, they even supplied loo paper! A bonus.

We found the English owners to be friendly and most helpful. They were not aloof as someone else on here commented and we enjoyed our chats with them. Other people staying seemed to enjoy the site and the owners.

Highly recommended.

Used this site once again as an overnight halt whilst travelling through to Spain, it is in a great location and not far from the A71 so easy to get to and be on your way again in the morning.

Booking in was nice and easy and the young Australian Lady on reception was very friendly, as they were not busy we were told we can pitch were we liked, we set up in the middle of the site and were up and running with water and electric in 15 minutes.

The site itself is very nice and really has a “Rustic France” feel, the shower and toilet facilities were plentiful (There was even a Bath!) and all were clean and tidy.

There is plenty to do and see and the little Bar being the focal point and it was nice to meet a few fellow campers for a good old chin wag. A nice touch was they laid on a nightly fire up at Bar area to aid the get together.

All in all a lovely site to use as an overnighter or longer break, would wholeheartedly recommend.

Stayed for 5 nights and loved it. This is a proper 'French' camping site for those who want something laid back and not overly fussy. Its a shabby chic site. Though more chic than shabby. Lots of trees and dappled shade. Toilets and showers are plentiful and although initially seem basic, are actually very efficient, e. G shower doors have two hooks, lots of hot water, loo paper supplied, always seemed clean. Pitches are big. Other reviews have said the English owners are aloof but actually, talk to them and you'll find they very friendly and helpful and hard working as are the other staff. This is a very good standard standard site, in a stunning part of France, though perhaps not for picky caravanners. Put it this way, its full of Dutch. And if you know your French camping, you follow the Dutch! Agree that play area is a bit naff.

Booked as a stop over for one night on the way to the South and for two nights on the return journey, however after one night decided to forego the prepaid deposit (which they said would be deducted on the return journey to ensure we returned) and stay elsewhere on our return.

Site is very tired and needs some tlc. Grass is overgrown and some of the toilets are broken. Some of them are tiny and your knees touch the door if you sit down. Generally needs to be freshened up.

Play area is ok, couldn't swim in the river as it was too high and fast but there seemed no easy way down to it anyway.

Pitches were an ok size but drainage was bad.

Staff were pleasant but the owners (despite rolling the fresh pizza dough) came across as pompous and unapproachable.

The local town is within easy reach with various local shops.

Generally the feeling was that it needs some tlc and that it is now a 'money cow'.

Found the whole site to be lacking any care. Grass was very long and when we enquired if it was possible to cut it, we were told probably not. Pitches are large and plenty of shade (35 degrees when we were there. Not possible to swim in river by site it is only about 12 inches deep. Sanitary facilities are old and some broken and not very clean. The takeaway food is cheap (8 euros) but very small portions, and nothing special. Bar is OK but expensive. We did not find the owners to be very interested in the well-being of the site.

This may just be our favourite campsite in Europe. Situated alongside the Sioule river ( shallow enough to paddle in and deep enough to drift down in canoes) the site is spacious with large emplacements, many alongside the river bank itself. When it gets hot there is plenty of shade to be found under the many mature trees. The toilet blocks are quirky and immaculately clean and hot water is plentiful and free.

The children's playground is well away from the road and there is a mini golf, and table tennis tables close to the bar and reception.

Every night in season a home made take away meal is on the menu - Great value and always delicious. The weekly pizza night, with pizzas cooked in the brick oven on site is a must too.

The area is great for walking, canoeing and cycling and the clear Auvergne skies are ideal for stargazing. The village of Ebreuil is a 5 minute walk from the site and has bakeries, a butchers and a small supermarket. Further afield visit Vichy or Clermont and the volcanic lake, the Gour de Tazenat: great for swimming and picnics.
