Myself and partner, son and family, just returned from a fantastic week end at the Unicorn, what a wonderful site.
We were greeted by the Landlord, warm, friendly, and it seems a permanent smile. The pub itself was a treasure, good ale, and excellent food. Had a Sunday roast 'HUGE!' all home cooked, fantastic.
The site does have many permanent units, but the people were very friendly and helpful.
I only have a couple of criticisms, and they by no means spoilt a wonderful stay.
The Shower/toilet block was very cold, with no heating, and lights were on timer, so shower in the dark, showers were just warm with no adjustment.
Waste disposal was permanently locked.
Please check prices on booking, as I think the web site is out of date.
Regardless, we will be returning to this wonderful site, and would like to thank the owners for making us very welcome.

We spent one night here and have mixed feelings about it.
The site is located in a beautiful setting alongside the river Severn. We arrived at 11:30 and were greeted warmly in the pub and issued with a fob to activate the barrier to the site, paying a £10 deposit.
we had very little choice of pitch as the site was quite crowded, there was a large group of people there who were having a cowboy night and wouldn't allow us to pitch anywhere near them.
However we pitched in an adequate little corner and went off for a six mile walk along the river into Bridgnorth. On our return I decided to forego having a shower as the shower block looked like it had seen better days. There were three showers which looked in need of a good clean. Only two of the three toilets had doors! Toilet paper supply was very low.
The walls and floors were in bad state of repair.
We had booked an evening meal at the pub and on arrival for this we were told that they had no reservation for us - this by the girl who had taken the booking from us earlier in the day!
However we were allowed to eat there as long as we ordered and paid for our meal there and then. We waited about forty minutes for a very nice meal indeed! Rump steak, masses of chips, salad and onion rings, all cooked to perfection for £7.95.
All were very friendly in the pub and a very nice evening followed in a lively crowded pub.
Breakfast in the pub next morning was nice, an ample full english with tea and toast was £4. 95.
If you don't mind the grubby toilet facilities and like a drink and a chat in friendly environment then this is for you.

Nice site, lovely area, pub food fantastic and value for money.
Female toilets disgusting!
Male toilets more or less the same.
I would personally say this site is for fishing groups and not a family wanting to escape for the weekend.
Needs more care taken to toilet blocks as this gives a bad impression on the site itself, apart from that lovely weekend.
Would visit the pub for food but not pitch our caravan.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of july. I think that there have been some unfair comments left about this site in the past. Had no trouble arriving at 11am although it took about 20 mins to get the barrier tag to work. Had no trouble leaving at 9. 30 on day of departure as there was always someone in the pub due to them doing B & B.
The site was very busy with tents so there was some noise but not intrusive. Caravan pitches are a good size and separated by low hedges, a lot are used as season pitches.
The toilet block though basic was adequate, it did get a bit grubby but understandable with the number of campers, they were cleaned daily and there always seemed to be toilet paper available (although it is always best to go prepared with your own).
The location is stunning, between the river and steam railway, only 5 minutes walk to Hampton Loade station (my main reason for choosing this site).
Did not eat at the pub so cannot comment on food, drinks prices were average pub prices. Go to this site with an open mind and enjoy what the area has to offer.
The site was very popular with people fishing, day tickets are available. Be aware that the approach road is very narrow with limited passing places, especially the last 200 yards, I had no trouble with a caravan in tow.

Found site very noisy at weekends
Charged £20 per night which is quite expensive for a standard site
Showers were always cold
Toilets where not cleaned regular
There are no waste bins around the site
Rubbish left by all weekend campers was not collected till Tuesday, by which time birds had ripped open some bags
Beer prices very high. Carling £3.20 a pint. Seem to get different prices on rounds of drinks. Service can be very slow even when nobody at the bar. Food very good but service again very slow . Waited 40 minutes for meal
Elsan point not clearly shown, required a key from the bar which is not open till 12. Also you can not leave site till 12. As you need to hand in a fob for the gate or loose your deposit

The Unicorn is an old fashioned pub next to the River Severn and the Severn Valley railway. They still practice old fashioned values and very much demonstrate a live-and-let-live attitude.
The comments posted seem to come from folk who like a set of rules, but the whole ethos of the pub and the camp site is about freedom! Sure, you will find, in all walks of life, wherever you go, some people who have disregard for others but I can certainly say, from experience, the management and the staff are very friendly and are always ready to help. It was refreshing for me to find that access to the pub has wheelchair ramps - they exclude no-one!
Yes, there are dog lovers there too and maybe the odd dog poop escapes the owners eye, yes, there are children who play and experience country life, yes there are parents who let their hair down and enjoy the ambiance and yes, the toilets could do with the assistance of those that use them - clean up after yourself!
All of the delicious food at the pub is cooked fresh to order and they use local produce. Nothing is too much trouble. In this society where complaining is becoming more and more widespread, why not practice the old fashioned values?
If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
Your experience does not represent my experience.
I shall look forward to another year at the Unicorn with nice friendly people, good food and the beauty of the place.
Viva La Calamara!
