This was our first ever-camping trip to France and unfortunately as it was a late booking, we had to make do with what we could find. We were a little nervous having not driven abroad before, taking a caravan as well added to the worry. How wrong we were, the drive from Calais to La Baule was faultless, loads of rest areas on the way that were superb and completely geared up for the traveller, the sat-nav got us there without one wrong turn. Some of the sights on the way were breathtaking, especially the Ponte du Normandie bridge, make sure you have your video camera on when you go over it!

We arrived at the site a day early and they were kind enough to find us a small pitch for the night, there were another two families travelling with us so fair play to them for finding places for all of us.

In the morning we moved to our correct pitches and found that we had to share the same pitch with our mates and were a little too close! make sure if you do book with others that you clearly state separate pitches if you want to be next to friends. There is a good mix of pitches, small, large, in or out of the shade etc. The electric connections we thought were pretty poor, the columns had a mix of UK and European connections on them, if you are lucky you will get what you want. There were extension cables with 4 way adaptors coming from it open to the elements and yes it did rain, causing the breaker to trip several times. Maybe we have been spoilt in this country, but that is something that they could definitely improve on.

The campsite as a whole was OK, the pool was basic with a retractable roof, there was also an outside plunge pool with water slide. The tennis court had to be booked in advance, the small football pitch was always busy. The shop was small but the local town was only a 10 min walk away if you needed provisions. The shower blocks were pretty good, very clean at all times, usual facilities we would class as OK, only one washer and drier if it was needed. The wardens are quite strict and make sure noise is down by 11pm, security guards patrol all night. Not many English stayed here, French folk mainly use this campsite as weekends get away.

The La Baule area is fantastic, the beach has got to be one of the best coastlines in Europe, and we were lucky enough to have the sun for around 80% of our stay. The town is small but well worth a visit, try to go early to get a parking space. A top golf course is only 10 mins away but you have to take a proper club handicap to play, otherwise the nearest 9 hole course is about 10 miles away, still good quality though.

During our stay we visited a circus, the Ocearium at Croisic, which was about 20 mins up the coast, http://www.Ocearium-croisic.Fr/ a Zoo, and the La Baule mariner.

If you were to ask us if we would go again and we had the choice, then we would say no, but it was a great experience for our first camping trip abroad.

All in all we enjoyed the whole experience and wish we had done it years ago.
