We came to stay at Merthyr for a couple of nights to celebrate our 3yr old's birthday. We had a choice of pitches and chose an electric hook up pitch for our tent. Pitches are flattened and ground was mostly easy to peg tent down. The views are stunning from the site and the shower block was very clean. Our friends made use of the communal fridge, and I saw there was a washer and dryer available to use too. Although there is no playground for children, the wide open spaces more than make up for this and the toddlers were more than happy running around our tents and sheep spotting. We took our children to the farm park locally, ate a quick lunch in the cafe by the slate caverns and visited a local pub with enormous beer garden so children could play safely. We will definitely be visiting again and using as a base to explore more, visit the castle and beaches, and interesting shops in Harlech. Thank you so much Lizzie and Bryn :)

Just returned from a weekend away at Merthyr Farm. It was our first trip away in our motorhome so we're new to campsites as we've only ever stayed at Shell Island in a tent.

I'm so glad we made the decision on coming here instead.

When we pulled up we were directed to the top field and were amazed by the view from our pitch.

It was around 7. 30 and the sun was setting and looked stunning across the bay.

Lizzie also tended to our dog ( as she's a vet) who managed to cut herself open on the way to the campsite. So I'm eternally grateful for her advice and help. And also was very kind in lending us a carrier for our baby. So made our walks a lot easier.

The showers always had hot water, so wasn't a rush to beat everyone there. Plus you're not charged for using them, like many other sites.

The field was lovely and neat and also quiet.

I also love the fact you aren't charged for taking a dog like many other sites either. There is nothing that I can find fault with the site.

If you enjoy walking there are some lovely walks too. And a 40 min walk across the fields can take you into Harlech itself.

If you want kids clubs and entertainment, then this isn't for you. If you want spectacular views, peace and quiet and not a crowed campsite, then definitely look at coming here.

Can't recommend this place enough, and I'll be definitely returning in the near future.

Fantastic stay at this wonderful campsite. Loved every minute of being here, clean facilities and owners who will go above and beyond their call of duty to help. Quiet family site stunning views of Snowdonia and the sea. Peaceful and unspoilt, we can't wait to return. Thank you Bryn and Lizzie!

The pictures on the website don't even come close to doing this site justice. The views are simply stunning looking over to the bay to Portmeiron and across to Criccieth Castle. Is about 300metres above Harlech and great view down to the castle. Surrounded by mountains in other directions.

Strongly recommend following the advised route up. Is pretty easy compared to the other way which we did in a car and had several gates as well as sharp bends.

At start of May site was virtually empty and so no issues with showers etc and more open up when busier. Always clean and well serviced. Owners very friendly and comfortable about how we parked as we wanted to minimise exposure to the winds. Plots amazingly level considering the mountainous terrain.

Great base for Porthmadog and the railways plus coast at Barmouth as well as Harlech. Also within half an hour of mountain biking at Coed-y- Brenin. Snowdon, Caernafon and Conwy castles also perfectly accessiblefor a day out.

Only slight issue is that rubbish bins seemed full despite site not being busy.

I don't normally like returning to places but this one is definitely an exception.

Visited this site for two days over the weekend. We traveled by train to Harlech & walked around the local area for a wile before walking up to the farm. We followed a footpath up the hills from town, nice walk. We were greeted by the farmer who is a very friendly guy. We were allowed to pitch our two man tent wherever we wanted to. The views from the camp are amazing. Electric hook-up available if you require. The shower / toilet block on site is very clean & shower water was nice & hot. The farmer chatted with us for a wile & gave use some great advise & info regarding walking in the local area, invaluable when you'r not familiar with the surroundings. The farm has a small area with picnic tables, great to sit & have a morning coffee overlooking the castle, sea & mountains. This is a great site if you want to experience amazing views, tranquility & friendly people. Will definitely be returning to this place.

A great site - this really is our kind of place.

We travelled across Wales from the Severn Bridge. The A470 is a good road but it takes 3. 5+ hours. The Dinas Mawddy Pass is the only difficult part but any competent towcar driver will have no problems.

When we left we went east to Shropshire on the A458 which was no problem.

If you are used to English roads you will be surprised how good the Welsh road surfaces are.

There is loads to do around the area. The obvious attraction is mountain walking but there are plenty of other attractions. Portmeirion is an unusual place to visit (visible as part of the view from the site). Also, the Llyn Peninsular is nice. There are some good National Trust places. Harlech is a nice little town.

--------------------------

Site Good points:

The view (awesome!). It looks over the sea, the estuary, Harlech Castle and the mountains of Snowdonia. It really is spectacular. It's so good that you sit looking at it when you should be off exploring.

The only downside for us is that it's unlikely we'll ever find a better view so it's all downhill from here!

Away from civilisation, it's a good long and steep walk into Harlech.

This is a proper working farm with sheep and chickens wandering around so be prepared to make allowances for that. We didn't have children with us but it would be a great experience for them especially if they are from a city.

No light pollution, great for stargazing.

The toilets and showers are sensibly designed so that they are easy to keep clean and the owners make sure they are kept clean.

Laundry facilities.

Helpful, friendly owners.

Suprisingly, there was a decent 3G signal (not always a good point).

--------------------------

Site Bad points (none really but a couple of things to watch for):

It could be difficult to get to if you aren't confident towing - the road approaching is single track although it has quite a few passing places and you can generally see far enough ahead to spot a problem early.

MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF HOW TO GET THERE IF YOU ARE TOWING!

The great view makes for an exposed site - we had one very windy night but the tents on site survived unscathed.

You are a long way from big city facilities ( which may be a good point).

--------------------------

In summary - we had a long drive to get to this site (7 hours) but it was well worth it. It definitely ranks as an all time favourite and one I hope we can return to.

Did I mention the great view???
