We have just returned home from a bit of a tour in the Borders and Northumberland, as part of this tour, fortunately, we stayed on this site for a couple of nights.

We loved it, it was peaceful and, although remote, for a motorhome, we wished we had booked a little longer.

We visited the Honey Farm next door, which has a wonderful cafe in a bus and, yes it does have a play park, which in August was being well used, however we were not disturbed on site.

We also visited Paxton House which is a short walk along the other side of the river, well worth the visit, another wonderful Cafe, cheese scones to die for.

Although we tend to use our own facilities, the amenity block looked perfectly clean and more than adequate for such a small site, including showers, washing machines, a TV room, Wifi and some basic provisions with an honesty box. There was also lots of information regarding local attractions, supermarkets and pubs and restaurants together with copies of their menus.

The arrival system is easy, your name is on a board with your pitch No. And you site yourself and pay the owner when she is around, she happened to be there when we arrived so we paid our dues straight away. I cant see how anyone can find any thing to complain about that, on most sites you barely get through the gate before having to pay, if not in advance.

We will certainly be returning!

Brilliant site, absolutely loved it.

Great showers, piping hot and toilets although as someone has stated the dryer is outside the room.

Electric hook up and water on pitch which are hard standing which is brilliant for tents as long as you remember to take adequate pegs.

We had torrential rain one night but didn't suffer any flooding on our pitch (no 2). The owner was kind enough to check that we were ok in our tent during the rain.

Nearby attractions include the Honey Farm, the Union Chainbridge and Berwick Upon Tweed.

Great walks by the river and good location to tour about.

Reasonably cheap to go by train to Edinburgh from Berwick, which we did to visit the city and its national trust properties.

Would definitely stay at the campsite again - top marks

Nice site but a little expensive. We arrived on site and were setting up our van but were a little disappointed to be pestered by the owner for the money before we had even got the kettle on. The site itself is lovely and the shower block is very nice indeed. The site is well laid out and level and plenty of room between vans. We were on pitch number 12 which is right in the corner and we initially thought this was the best pitch however after choosing an adults only site we found we were at the side of the honey farm and a very noisy children's play area. We had screaming and shouting children all day.

Very easy to find however there are no facilities at all nearby so it's a car drive for all simple things like a pint of milk.

We did enjoy ourselves but just a little isolated.

Having read the rave reviews, we decided to book a 10 day stay at Chainbridge. Right from the start we wondered whether we had come to the right place.

Firstly, when we booked we gave the size of our caravan. However, we were allotted one of the smaller rather awkward pitches adjacent to the honey farm playground when a larger, more suitable pitch was vacant. This was filled a couple of days later by a much smaller caravan.

The building containing the laundry etc was in need of some TLC and one of the showers which everybody raved about had a missing door handle and broken soap tray and the water in the other had difficulty in draining away.

Although cakes, drinks, bacon, sausage, bread and milk were advertised for sale, we were told that none would be available throughout our visit. The reason we were given was that the owners were moving house and would be bringing in wardens sometime in the future. The only time the owners made contact was to collect the (full) fees which, given the lack of promised facilities, we thought was a bit rich.

It would have been helpful to have been given a printed sheet giving directions to local shops, garages and gas suppliers. We have always been given this information even on the smallest of sites.

On the plus side, we met some lovely people on the site and the view of the Tweed and bridge from the opposite side of the road to the entrance to the site was beautiful.

Northumberland is a wonderful county, the beaches are to die for and the people are very friendly. It's a doggy heaven and there are plenty of places where they are welcome.

This is the first mostly negative review I have given, but from this experience I cannot in all honesty recommend Chainbridge.

Fairly remote location although only a short car journey to A1 and Berwick. Basics in the form of bread, bacon, eggs, cakes etc in fridge or adjacent area. No gas or basic map of immediate area. Bus passes in the morning and returns PM miss the one each way and that's it.

Nothing in Horncliff with the exception of a creaking pub which may or may not be in the process of changing hands. Pub is 15mins from site by foot.

If in motor home be prepared to find you have been booted out of the pitch in which you spent your first night. This is a little unsettling as you are expected to read a small board on the way in to check you even have one. We were looking forward to a beer with friendly couple adjacent but (surprise surprise) a caravan had turned up in first pitch and new arrivees were more than a little embarrassed when I pointed out to them they were in the wrong pitch and by the way can I have our windbreak and mat back that we had left on site (felt sorry for them).

Another big gripe is that the ladies aren't to happy with sharing showers and toilets with us blokes. Not sure if this is common place as only second trip out.

Compared to our first site near Stirling I believe the site facilities to be in need of a bit of TLC, and with nothing really going for it, and at the same price as the Sterling site it represents poor value for money. Won't be returning any time soon.

After touring Europe, me and hubby have decided to tour the UK and as we have not visited Northumberland before and going from friends comments of the area, we picked Chain Bridge as our stay for the week. The site was very clean, level, small and friendly. There is a TV room where you can obtain milk, eggs, etc as supplies, but you will need to visit a shop. We found Tescos on the road to Berwick, about 4 miles. The amenities, for the size of site, are adequate. There are 3 toilets with sinks, so if you wish for a wash, and all three cubicles are being used, then you will have to wait; if you wish to use the toilet, you wash your hands, then because the hand-dryer is outside the cubicles, you leave the door handle wet - not nice. There were also lots of flies, and I mean lots. You could not sit outside because of this problem. I would visit again, but certainly not for any length of time. The nearest pub is the next village on, about half a mile, which was friendly.
