You can't help but be impressed by the location - close to the Chain Bridge (obviously) and the river, with stunning views just yards from your pitch, it's a mostly quiet site with good walking. Arrival is simple - check the board and plonk yourself on the allocated pitch.

Water and electrics are on every pitch but you do have to use your own grey waste container and here was the first downside - the grey waste drain was blocked / overflowing for the duration of our stay. One morning the chemical waste was also full to the dismay of people trying to leave but fortunately this was rectified the same day. Sadly, there were several small but niggling problems on this site that seem to have become apparent since the owners moved away. The warden was helpful and polite but appeared limited as to what he can do.

The facilities block was clean and had everything you could need. We thought two showers and three toilets on a site this size might not be enough but at no time did we have to wait, so clearly its fine. This is also really the only place to get good Wifi connection but there are settees in the lounge so you can plan your day in comfort.

It's a great location and we would probably visit again but only if the warden or owner was based on-site.

This small adults only site makes a good base for touring whether by car or cycle for those who don't mind putting in some mileage. Holy Island, Alnwick, Cragside, the Border towns, St Abbs Head and Edinburgh are within reach - if going to the latter by train from Berwick, booking in advance recommended. Good cycling area with quiet roads. Numbered pitches are mostly of a good size though area of hardstanding varies - rock pegs recommended. There is no reception area - see board at entrance for number of pitch allocated. Site is now under the day-to-day care of friendly and helpful wardens resident locally. Water and EHU to each pitch with grey water disposal at a central point. A former stable block houses toilets (3) and showers (2) - both unisex - plus washing-up and laundry facilities, fridge, freezer, a good information desk and a small lounge. WiFi access best from this block. Some basic provisions are normally provided (honesty box) although Berwick has a range of supermarkets within 15-20 mins drive. Toilet/shower facilities appear limited but we did not experience particular pressure during our 2-week stay on a full site. There is no separate parking area and therefore site best suited for single car/caravan outfits if an awning is to be used. We liked this site - its informality (all grown-ups here!), the friendliness of our fellow residents and its location in one of the less-frequented holiday areas. The downside, which may be an issue for some, is the noise from the play area from the neighbouring Honey Farm, which is located adjacent to the north end of the site. This comes and goes, however, and is restricted to opening hours. The advice here would be to avoid the school holidays.

We have just returned home from a bit of a tour in the Borders and Northumberland, as part of this tour, fortunately, we stayed on this site for a couple of nights.

We loved it, it was peaceful and, although remote, for a motorhome, we wished we had booked a little longer.

We visited the Honey Farm next door, which has a wonderful cafe in a bus and, yes it does have a play park, which in August was being well used, however we were not disturbed on site.

We also visited Paxton House which is a short walk along the other side of the river, well worth the visit, another wonderful Cafe, cheese scones to die for.

Although we tend to use our own facilities, the amenity block looked perfectly clean and more than adequate for such a small site, including showers, washing machines, a TV room, Wifi and some basic provisions with an honesty box. There was also lots of information regarding local attractions, supermarkets and pubs and restaurants together with copies of their menus.

The arrival system is easy, your name is on a board with your pitch No. And you site yourself and pay the owner when she is around, she happened to be there when we arrived so we paid our dues straight away. I cant see how anyone can find any thing to complain about that, on most sites you barely get through the gate before having to pay, if not in advance.

We will certainly be returning!

Brilliant site, absolutely loved it.

Great showers, piping hot and toilets although as someone has stated the dryer is outside the room.

Electric hook up and water on pitch which are hard standing which is brilliant for tents as long as you remember to take adequate pegs.

We had torrential rain one night but didn't suffer any flooding on our pitch (no 2). The owner was kind enough to check that we were ok in our tent during the rain.

Nearby attractions include the Honey Farm, the Union Chainbridge and Berwick Upon Tweed.

Great walks by the river and good location to tour about.

Reasonably cheap to go by train to Edinburgh from Berwick, which we did to visit the city and its national trust properties.

Would definitely stay at the campsite again - top marks

Nice site but a little expensive. We arrived on site and were setting up our van but were a little disappointed to be pestered by the owner for the money before we had even got the kettle on. The site itself is lovely and the shower block is very nice indeed. The site is well laid out and level and plenty of room between vans. We were on pitch number 12 which is right in the corner and we initially thought this was the best pitch however after choosing an adults only site we found we were at the side of the honey farm and a very noisy children's play area. We had screaming and shouting children all day.

Very easy to find however there are no facilities at all nearby so it's a car drive for all simple things like a pint of milk.

We did enjoy ourselves but just a little isolated.

Having read the rave reviews, we decided to book a 10 day stay at Chainbridge. Right from the start we wondered whether we had come to the right place.

Firstly, when we booked we gave the size of our caravan. However, we were allotted one of the smaller rather awkward pitches adjacent to the honey farm playground when a larger, more suitable pitch was vacant. This was filled a couple of days later by a much smaller caravan.

The building containing the laundry etc was in need of some TLC and one of the showers which everybody raved about had a missing door handle and broken soap tray and the water in the other had difficulty in draining away.

Although cakes, drinks, bacon, sausage, bread and milk were advertised for sale, we were told that none would be available throughout our visit. The reason we were given was that the owners were moving house and would be bringing in wardens sometime in the future. The only time the owners made contact was to collect the (full) fees which, given the lack of promised facilities, we thought was a bit rich.

It would have been helpful to have been given a printed sheet giving directions to local shops, garages and gas suppliers. We have always been given this information even on the smallest of sites.

On the plus side, we met some lovely people on the site and the view of the Tweed and bridge from the opposite side of the road to the entrance to the site was beautiful.

Northumberland is a wonderful county, the beaches are to die for and the people are very friendly. It's a doggy heaven and there are plenty of places where they are welcome.

This is the first mostly negative review I have given, but from this experience I cannot in all honesty recommend Chainbridge.
