Just had a fantastic three night break at this gorgeous site. The Cozy Cabin was outstanding, you only need to take your food, clothes and bedding. Everything else is provided. The shower/toilet block was extremely well looked after, spotlessly clean and the showers are hot and powerful. The site is an anglers dream. Well marked pegs and some big carp. There is a gate at the back of the site that allows you to cut off a huge corner on the walk to the pub in Allerthorpe (The Plough) where you can get good food and real ales. We wanted to scope out the camping pitches for next year, they are quite large, most with EHU and all nice flat grass. We'll definitely be back, again and again.

Excellent camp site, owners very friendly and prices are fantastic to what you can pay elsewhere. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone. No play park for kids but as we didn't take ours, didn't really affect. Seems more suited to adults. Very large pitches and all flat and we'll looked after. Not far from York

We booked this site for six nights but loved it so much that we extended our stay to eight nights! The pitch we had was less than 5 minutes walk from the lake and 1 minute from the facilities. The grass was neatly cut and the pitches well marked and spacious, all had EHU.

There are 3 toilet, sink and shower cubicles, male, female and disabled which were all spotlessly clean with a mop and bucket provided to wipe up muddy/grassy footprints.

What a beautiful lake!good paths all around and well-marked pegs. My husband fished the match on Saturday and although didn, t have the biggest catch, thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Graham and Allison were friendly and although this was our first visit, we were made to feel like old friends. Both of them were busy every day, maintaining the site and chatting to the campers.

We went to York twice using the park and ride, 2, 70 each return. The Plough in Allerthorpe is a 15 minute walk away using the short-cut. Good size village of Pocklington not too far away for provisions.

We have re-booked a long weekend in July and hopefully will be visiting again for 2 weeks next year.

If you love peace and quiet, the only noise being bird-song then this is the site for you.

Spoke to owner the night before we were due and he told me we could arrive any time we wanted, got there around 8. 30am, we were met by the owner who was very friendly and helpful from the start, even when my van broke down as we arrived, the owner was straight to call on a couple of mates who rallied to get us started again. Great start you might say but it was good to meet helpful people. Shown our pitch with EHU, good size as our tent is 7. 5mt x 5, 5mt. Pitched up and got settled, weather not bad but wanted to get pitched before it rained. Once pitched went and spoke to the owners, paid our fee for the week, 15 per night per pitch with 3 ehu per night (16amp) and 2 per extra person and dogs free we found very good value. You can get discounted weekly fishing, which was good as I fished early morning and evening. Really nice campsite, clean and tidy shower block, pot wash which they supply the washing up liquid, and fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble drier. Really friendly site, we had some nice neighbours (viv and ian). York and surrounding areas are all in close proximity to conifer lake. Also available are cozy cabins at 35 per night, will sleep 2, will defo be going again, credit to the owners.

Just stayed one night in the Woodpecker cabin. Thought it might be a bit cold but this wasn't the case the electric convector heater keeps the cabin lovely and warm. The cabin has a double bed, 2 ring electric stove, full size fridge, and crockery / cutlery for 2 people basically everything you need apart from the bedding and food. Some sites just offer a basic pod and you have to take all of your camping gear but not here. Outside you have some decking and also a picnic table. The site was lovely and quiet with just the sound of the local wildlife including owls at nigh and a cockerel that reminds you in the morning that you are not in the city. Love this site the cabin was nice, the owners very polite and welcoming, the lake is a great plus, showers are spotless no complaints whatsoever and this will become one of favourite campsites when the weather gets better.

(Couple - late 40's/early 50's - look for peace, quiet and tranquillity, but with a few mod cons).

Stayed 3 nights - Fri 24/01 to Mon 27/01

Having stayed for 11 nights in Sept 2012 (see previous review) and again for 3 nights at Easter 2013, we saw no reason not to visit this wonderful, quirky site yet again. And no reason to allow the weather to put us off!

Ok, as you'd expect on a wet weekend at the end of January, there's a distinct lack of colour! The skies are grey, and the majority of the trees are bare. But the site itself remains quirky and peaceful. The grass is still short, and the walk around the lake is still an absolute pleasure. Wellies needed, maybe, but it was far from boggy, and the pathways are all kept clear of foliage, with much of it now bordered by the (deliberately) felled trees from the islands. (To form a kerb, for want of a better description!) They've been extremely busy tidying the whole lake and the islands, and it looks even better for it. Oh. And the chickens have settled in, since the last time we were here!

The facilities are still spotless. The booking in ('phoned earlier in the week) remains informal and pain free, and the welcome from the owners (and the dogs) remains, well, welcoming!

You still nod off to the sounds of nothing but the local owl(s).

In all honesty, the only addition we noticed was the cockerel crowing early doors! As City dwellers, this bothers us not one jot, but for those who like absolute silence at dawn, all it takes is a couple of ear plugs!

There's still a decent pub in the nearby village, with a decent menu and a warming fire. And of course, The city of York, the coast, and the North York Moors remains the same distance away, whatever the time of year, and whatever the weather!

Make no mistake, this was a very wet weekend, and the owners deserve nothing but praise for the conditions of the ground. The only lake was THE LAKE! No puddles on the camping field, or the approaches to the loo block etc. I reckon that takes some doing!

Having now camped here in Spring, Autumn and Winter, I can't possibly see any problem coming in the height of Summer, so quite simply, Conifer Lake is a site for all seasons. And it's certainly one you'll want to return to, time and time again.
