A great tent, loads of room for the family, good windows with covers. Sun canopy is a bit tricky to fit on without blowing off. A heavy tent if carried together with poles, but split them and it is easy. Great tent even in strong winds. Only trouble I have has is with Gelert themselves, I asked if I could buy a second porch panel (as I broke the zip on ours) they told me they would not sell me a panel and would have to buy a full tent again ! but I found a repair place so tent now as god as new

We love this tent with its big windows and straight walls. The living area is large, light and roomy, and pleasant to sit in when the weather's bad. My husband and I use it to take my adult disabled brother-in-law on holiday, just the right size for three adults. It is surprisingly stable for such a big tent - our tent was undamaged by a gale that wrecked nearby caravan awnings and smaller tents. Pitching is straightforward (like any tunnel tent). Build quality is excellent and there are good little extra features like removable storage pockets and ehu access. When we first considered buying the tent I didn't think I liked the colour scheme (light and dark blue) but really love it now. I really want to include a criticism but I can't think of one. Yes, it is heavy when packed in its bag, but then so are all large tents. Like other reviewers we just separate the poles then no probs!

We absolutely love our Lokon 5 - there is usually 2 adults and 1 dog and we there all sleep in the 3 berth section and leave the 2 berth down for storage which then leaves a good sized living area for us and our two friends and there 14 year old. This tent replaced a previous tent which broke in the gales of Easter last year lasting 1 night in the Lakes. This tent however has seen strong gales and rain and has lived to keep us dry and safe. If anything happened to this we would but another it no hesitation.

This is the first tent I have owned and I love it, 2 bedrooms at the back and lots of space for entertaining or relaxing at the front. It is really easy to put up and we have also got the canopy and windbreak which looks great. The windows make it seem really light inside. Like most campers in this country we have camped in the wind and rain and our tent has stood up to the test in every way. I can't see me changing this tent for a long time.

We have a Lokon Vario 5 since last year. Used first time this year. Plenty of space for 5 people and plenty of storage area. You definitely need 2 people to set it up. Quite heavy but manageable, stable and leak proof. Great space at the front of the tent to put a small table and dine inside if outside is pouring.

Cracking tent, the internal metal poles that stretch out the tunnel really help with stability. It is a tad heavy. But that's a good thing (means decent waterproof material) we had a stint in north Yorkshire here it rained for 36 hours without a break. And the tent kept us dry! if you are a camper then you can probably handle the fiddlyness of putting up such an enormous tent (our car fits inside it!) someone mentioned that they too can put it up on their own, and if you peg out either the front or the back you can pull it all into shape. Do-able but much better with two. We were really pleased with all the windows, and also the fact that you can choose where to put the front panel of the tent, to either give maximum outside room (put the panel at the end) or to give a porch (panel one set of windows in). Great tent for the nosey campers out there as it has stacks of windows with a handy combination of mesh and plastic panels for ventilation/rain protection choices!
Great family tent for the comfy campers out there

I love this tent, not sure if it is 2006 or 2007 I can put it up on my own when my husband has to work weekends. I tie the front guide ropes to my roof rack, walk it into position & peg out. It is heavy but manageable. Very sturdy & it has always fitted back in the bag. Plenty of space for the four of us (children age 6 & 4). I love to drop the front down while I am cooking or relaxing, to enjoy the views.

We love our Lokon Vario 5. We bought it to replace our original model Gelert Vario 5 which we'd had many good holidays in, but which really struggled to cope with exceptionally strong winds on the Northumberland coast as there were no cross poles for added rigidity and strength. However, we were really impressed with the newer version - its spacious, the tent tidies do their job, we usually have the front section set back to give us a porch area for cooking and removing wet weather gear yet there is still plenty of living space for the two of us, using the spare bedroom for storage, changing room, etc.
I haven't seen the sun canopy yet - not even sure if they make it in the black/beige colourway that we have.
We agree it is quite heavy, but we find that by splitting the load - all the fabric parts in the holdall provided, and all the poles in a separate carry bag - it is a lot more manageable.

We bought this tent to replace a very old Khyam Ridgidome as I had started going away on my own and couldn't carry the Khyam although I could put it up.
I love the tent, even though I could never put it up on my own although I can carry it and we've never had any trouble packing it away into its bag. Masses of space and the moveable front panel makes it flexible enough to use in all weathers. We've camped in bad weather and it seems really stable and leak proof. I'm just sorry that if I'd waited a year I could have had a sun canopy as well.

We own and use our vario 5 a lot, it is a great tent for us. Very easy to put up , I agree is a bit heavy to be carrying around.
The only problems we have are the zips! Both the front and side door zips are not working right, the front we have to loosen off the guy lines then zip it up then but the guys back!
We are looking for a porch for this model?, does anyone know if the vario 6 porch would fit to vario 5? please let us know! But all in all a great tent we only paid £75 for it on ebay! So we got our value for money out of it and had many a great camping trip in it.
