I have been camping with my family for a little while now and this is our third tent. We visited our local Go Outdoors retailer and were surprised to find this tent on offer at £199.
After considering all the other tents that were on show we decided to buy the Kalahari 8. The tent ticks all the right boxes for us as a family.
Both me and my wife wanted a tunnel tent with a Vis-a-Vis bedroom layout. This tent is very spacious and has the benefit of a built in ground sheet which for us was excellent as we had in the past only had a separate groundsheet.
We have just used it on a short trip to Runswick Bay located near Whitby. The tent was great it took two of us just 30 minutes to erect, with another 10 minutes spent applying the guide ropes. All in we were fully set up within the hour.
The weather was terrible on the first night which meant that our new tent had a real test of its ability. The winds and rain were incredibly strong. At about 4:30am I woke to the overwhelming sound of the wind and rain and thought that I should check the tent externally but I was very pleased to find that it had not moved an inch. Internally there were no leaks and everything including the family was still secure despite the weather.
We love the room that this provides us with. We are not the biggest family and consist of two adults a 6 year old and a dog. For us we only use one bedroom and do not fit the second bedroom. As such this provides us with masses of floor space to organise our equipment. The second bedroom however will be very handy as we often take other family friends with us and we will still have enough space to store and keep everything inside.
Packing away was so easy, as the tent fits perfectly into its oversized suitcase style bag. It’s the first time we have had a tent that goes away with no hassle.
All in all a great tent at a great price, I have had no problems with it and cannot wait to go away again at the end of August.

We decided to give camping a go so visited our local Go Outdoors. Wow, we were overwhelmed by the array of tents but decided upon this one for the following reasons:
- Sewn in ground sheet
- Large living space
- Four generous bedrooms
- And last but not least, the price at an amazing £199.
Having never owned a tent before I have nothing to compare it with, but my hubby and I had no problem erecting it and neednt have been worried about looking like first time campers not knowing what we were doing.
The kids also love the tent (3 & 8) and we're even planning a camping trip to France next year.
What can I say - I would recommend this tent to any family.
Enjoy.

We bought this tent after extensive research, being impressed with the space and price at Go Outdoors (£199).
We pitched it quickly and very easily - just thread 5 poles through and peg out! It stood up to very heavy rain and wind without moving or leaking.
The kids love it - there was lots of space in 1 bedroom for a travel cot and 2 beds. The family living area was brilliant for 2 adults and 3 young active children!
We will now buy the canopy, because when it is raining hard you do get rain in the doorway as you go in / out.
Overall, this is a fantastic tent and worth every penny. The kids are now as addicted to camping as us - objective achieved!

I decided to upgrade my tent as I had a 12 man pro action and was I glad I did it.
We went to go outdoors and bought it for £199. BARGAIN.
It came with decent pegs and had no trouble erecting it, even though there was no pitching instructions it took 25 mins max with two of us.
First two nights we were there we had terrible weather high winds and rain but the tent took it all in its stride and not one leak.
I would recommend this tent to anyone who has got a small budget.

Having not really been camping since 1990 in a little two man Gelert tent across France I found this tent to be both roomy and great in the wind and rain. This tent with stood all the elements and proved to be very trust worthy, a must when the wind is battering you + tent. In terms of ease of getting it up and then taking it down this tent proved to be a dream. I did a dummy run in the back garden and took around an hour on my own. With help this tent went up within twenty five mins, taking down was a breeze as well and was no probs getting back in the bag.
In terms of living space during our camping trip this proved to be just right I have two boys 6 and 4, so when we had the odd quiet moment there was plenty of room for the boys to play and do lots of drawing and of course running around when it rained.
Overall I can't recommend this tent enough.

I love this tent. I have to admit that I was and still am a little bit of a camping novice but this tent is great. My husband and I were looking for a tent for a while but I wanted a specific type and wasn’t going to cave. I just happened to look on the Go outdoors website and saw that this tent had been reduced. That Saturday we drove over from Worcester and brought one. As per the instruction we set it up on our local field. It took me, my husband and my father in law 30 Mins to put up on our first attempt. We had our first camping holiday with it this weekend (August 22nd -23rd). With just me and my husband it took 40 mins and that was including all the guy ropes. We only put the one bedroom up as there are only the two of us and a dog. The tent withstood a fair bit of wind as we were on the sea front. We were also able to cook in it although it advises you not too. My advice is to go and get one now….5 poles and your done….Great!

We have just upgraded to this model from a small 4 man basic tent. Like other reviewers we got it for the bargain price of £199 from GoOutdoors.
Our first pitch was in high winds with just two people - took about 1 hour 10 minutes but we were definitely hampered by the winds. We were battered constantly for two days by the wind and rain, despite other tents failing around us this took everything that was thrown at it and kept us warm and dry.
Second trip was with four people and took just 30 minutes.
We use it as a four man at the moment so don't zip the dividers into the bedroom compartments. The bedrooms are very roomy with plenty of storage space and inner pockets.
When it's time to pack up again it is a straightforward matter.
Had two wonderful weekends away within a month of buying it and hope to enjoy many happy holidays! We had never camped before until July this year and are now addicted - the kids just love it!

First time family campers we went to Go-Outdoors and after much perusing and tent review reading here and elsewhere decided on the Kalahari 8 at £199. The guy in Go-Outdoors actually persuaded us away from another tent due to the bug free zone of this tent (he showed us some bites he'd got in a non bug free zone tent!).
Great tent and fairly easy to put up. Me and my wife managed it in just over 30 mins. Not bad for first time. Packed away fairly well - managed to get it back in the bag anyway. Ton's of room and as the fella said when he sold us on it 'you can always take one of the bedrooms down during the day and store in the other bedroom giving you more living space if needed on wet days'.
Really looking forward to going away again. Just need to buy lot's more equipment! Apparently Hi-Gear don't do a porch for this tent, but Kyham do one that fits - or so we are reliably informed. If I manage to find one that fit's I'll post details here for anyone wanting one.
One point to note are the 2 drawstring pocket type holes on the ground sheet (assume for releasing air when putting down?). I would recommend putting ant powder down them when erecting and tying them off properly as we had ants come in one of them after pitching on an ants nest! Just in case you are as unfortunate as we were.
Would definitely recommend this tent to anyone and have to friends and family.

Superb tent, very spacious and easy to erect as all 5 poles go in the same direction. It is a tunnel tent and we did not need to stoop once inside tent at all. It has very useful pockets to hang frequently used items e.G camera and toilet paper. Currently they are on offer for £199 but we paid £299 and even that was a bargain. Go and buy one!

I love my kalahari 8 for the space and stability. Been so comfortable in it for a week, not bad for first time campers in our 50s. We stayed for a week on golden sands at Mablethorpe and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Can't wait to camp again. We got the kalahari this year because of the space inside it was really warm and comfortable all week and was easy to move about in as it as full head height all through the tent. Only two of us so was able to keep it really tidy all week just like a home from home, really love it

Manufacturer's Description
Hi Gear Kalahari 8 Family Tunnel Tent:
Hi Gear's Kalahari 8 is a spacious and stable tunnel-style tent that's packed with features and versatility for a stress-free camping experience.
It's pre-attached high-visibility guylines, slick pole sleeves, and welded polyethylene groundsheet make pitching the tent a quick and easy affair.
The living space is a generous 7.6m², and the bedrooms comfortably sleep four at each end of the tent, in a 2+2 inner arrangement with breathable inner walls.
The sewn-in groundsheet combined with the fire-retardant polyester flysheet (with 3000mm hydrostatic head) give you a fully sealed and ventilated internal environment, so you'll be completely protected from draughts and even the heaviest sustained downpours.
The large living space has two 'privacy' windows and hanging storage pockets to help keep it tidy and liveable.
The two doors can be propped and extended out to use as a canopy, using the steel porch poles, giving you shelter from rain or stretching the space out for more room if it's sunny.
Other features include water-repellent zips, an electrical cable access point, and multiple ventilation points along the roof line.
Easy to pitch, generously spaced and comfortable to live in, the Kalahari 8 is a great choice for families or groups who need convenience and quality wherever they're going.
