We have this tent, owned it about 2 years now and used for the 4th time. We have just come back from 4 days camping with friends and we had nothing but heavy rain which was a first for our tent. I found it leaked a little in the porch area and then the water soaked the outside cover which in turn made wet patches on the inside cover and had to try and move our double bed more into the middle or I would have become cold and damp! Otherwise with all the wind and rain we had it withstood it fairly well

I would not like to sleep with a third person in it as it would be a bit of a squeeze and would all be on roll mats to be able to fit. For me and my partner we can have the double bed up and our bags down the side, even having the inside pockets is a bonus I find.

This is our first tent and has done us well but we are now looking to upgrade to the bigger one that our friends have as we want it all built in and to have a bigger porch. For a first tent this has served us well and have been more than happy with it

This tent has had a lot of use this year and has been thoroughly tested in all weathers, including festivals (boiling sun at Glastonbury, stong winds in the Yorkshire Dales, rain and freezing fog in Scotland). I chose it due to it being light and a reasonable price. I would recommend this tent. The large porch is great, and this has been achieved without extra weight for the 3rd pole. The tent is great for backpacking. If it could be improved I would recommend that the length is slightly increased, so you can lie straight. The porch pole has split, but has been repaired with tape. This could have happened at a festival when idiots were jumping on tents. The seam on the groundsheet also was not stuck together properly and came apart, again, fixable with yet more tape!

I bought one of these in May for two weeks camping on Skye. The tent stood up really well to high winds and lots of rain and didn't leak!

It's quick and easy to put up and nice and light for backpacking.

I would agree with previous comments about the size of the tent. My 6'3' partner was struggling to fit without having a foot out of the door and we certainly couldn't have got a third person in but you don't want too much extra space in a tent or you will be cold.

I bought this for my children so that we had an option of pitching 2 small tents for a couple of nights instead of taking the big family tent. It does pitch very quickly. I was surprised that it wasn't better quality, being a Vango. We have never had a Vango tent before and I wouldn't buy another one. I didn't realise that it was pitch inner first when I bought it or I wouldn't have. Velcroing the outer to the poles seems a bit low tech and didn't fill me with confidence. It is smaller than the 3 man ancient Eurohike tent that we own and not as good quality. The nylon is thinner, the tent is much smaller and so is the porch. No idea why Vango seem to think that this tent has a large porch. We can only just fit a double air bed into the tent for length. You would never fit 3 adults into it!

There are some good features such as the inner pockets, lantern hook and the bright orange guy ropes. Take some decent tent pegs as the ones you get with the tent are very thin and easily bend.

On the plus side, it packs up very small and so would be a good option for backpacking or D of E. I got it much cheaper but I would be cross if I had paid the full price in the shop, as it isn't worth over £40. Somehow I don't think we'll still be using this tent in 16 years as we are with our Eurohike one!

We bought this tent as an overnighter while driving down through France. Easy to erect (15 - 20 mins). Just about big enough for the 2 of us - you would have to be 'very good friends' for 3 people!

It has a small porch area to keep your boots etc.

It would probably make a reasonable hiking tent as it's light in weight and packs down quite small (although that's easier said than done - takes a bit of practice!)

We will probably go up in size as very limited head space for getting changed etc.

I bought this tent for Glastonbury and for use as a pup tent alongside a Conway Corniche. While it manages the latter OK, it's disappointing in the festival environment!

It's main fault is it's size - I'm only 6ft and average build, yet I was hard-pressed to avoid touching the inner tent, not matter how I laid in the tent. There is no way more than one adult can sleep in this tent comfortably - two will only fit in if they have no bags or equipment! This brings me on the second problem - waterproofing. Glastonbury certainly threw some heavy rain at the tent, much of which found it's way into the porch area. The inner tent remained mostly dry, but the combination of high winds and a narrow gap between inner and outer tents meant that contact between the two was inevitable, resulting in leakage. In addition, the poor ventilation meant that condensation was a major problem - the inner surface on the tent outer was soaking wet each morning, which dripped onto the equipment in the porch.

In summary, this tent is not particularly competitive on price, performance or weight, so look elsewhere if you want good value for money!

Just received vango alpha 300 and I thought I would post some comments to help any novice camper like me who is wondering if they would be able to erect the tent alone. I have just done erected the 300 and it took me about 20 minutes. First mistake I made was to try and pull one of the long poles through the channels and it came out of the ferrule. Push through gently while freeing the fabric channel and you will be ok. Make sure the out door is lined up with the inner door. I paid £40 for it from Outdoor kit ordered it Sunday and it arrived today Tuesday morning 10 am, Outdoor kit send confirmation emails and notice of dispatch. Tent seems ok for the money finish is good with all parts secured that should be stitching seems fine. I will submit a further revue when I have used the tent a couple of times.

To conclude if you are afraid that you will not be able to pitch the tent by yourself don't be I have never put up a tent in my life and I found this tent no problem. Instructions are ok but I never even looked at them as when you unpack the tent knowing it is inner tent first you will see the attaching points and cloth channel and apex ties. Just put your poles together the long poles for the inner tent thread the poles through put the end of one pole onto the eye hook walk to the other end and gentle let the pole arch and insert other eye hook and the tent starts to arch, repeat with other pole and even the tent out along the poles use the ties to fix to apex. Place the fly sheet over even out and put the smaller pole through the fabric channel and attach to eye hooks the same as you did with the long poles.

Hope this comment is helpful, value for money ok

Great little tent - for two people. Stands up to truly horrendous weather. Used this tent for a week last year, rained every day and was very, very windy. One night the wind was so strong we were the only tent the next morning who had not had problems. Very quick and easy to pitch (great for beginners), and small pack size (challenge to get into bag though!). Awkward to get in and out of if you are trying to take off boots/waterproof etc, but this is only to be expected from a small tent. We bought a Vango Venture 500 as our big tent for this year, as this provides the space to endure a full week of wet camping (typically we had wonderful weather when we used the big tent!). For sturdiness, quick pitching and value I highly rate this tent. I recommend buying a beach windbreak to use with it to protect the entrance from wind for sitting outside when eating dinner etc, this makes a big difference if you are using it for more than a couple of days.

A great tent for the weekenders. I was able to pitch up in 12 minutes. Although advertised as a three berth tent, it is only comfortable enough for two. Windproof and waterproof. Stands out when you're surrounded by 5,6,8 man tents.

We purchased one of these tents for overnight/2 night stays and as a quick erect option to our Vango Aspen tent should we arrive late or in bad weather. Quick to erect (10 mins) and just about big enough for 2 (wouldn't like to try 3). Head height good for small tent and porch is essential for wet boots. Excellent for our purpose and well made.
