Life seems to go round in circles. Our first tent was a cotton canvas Lichfield Vermont, which was fairly small for our needs, but sturdy and comfortable. We replaced that with a Sunncamp Palace, which Gave us the size we needed, but demanded that we buy a bigger estate car, a trailer and roof box for all of the gear, which was not ideal for weekends away or touring through Europe. So we bought a Vango Tigris 600, which we could use at weekends, and which packed away in the top box and did away with the need to drag a trailer. We used the Palace for weeks away un the UK, but felt that we wanted the convenience of a tent which packed up fairly small, but would give us the space, we were all set to get a Vango Samara, but came across this strange looking Marista at Go Outdoors in Basingstoke, and we were impressed.

We had a practice erection (ooh Missus!) and found it as easy to put up as the Tigris - Start at the back and walk it forward - and once up we discovered that the enclosed porch area took the Tigris's fitted carpet almost exactly, and the living area is about twice the size ia the enclosed porch.

We set up our kitchen in the porch area, which has freed up so much space in the living area that we felt that we were back in our Sunncamp Palace.

The triple bedroom is just the ticket, with a camp bed either side and walking space in between. The other double bedroom swallows my son's campbed, and gives him space to walk about as well. The walk-in bedroom in the middle is just right. We installed our wardrobe, and voila - we have our dressing room.

We like the vented side doors, although we haven't ever used them as doors apart from when we put it up and put it down. The Electric access points are numerous, although there is a slight niggle - I wish that they had put a zipped access point between the porch and the living area - we had to run an extension from our porch back out into the outside and then back into the living area to allow us to power the lights! (and telly, heater, PS2, Radio, etc)

We were a bit wary about possible leaks, following comments made on these pages from other owners, but didn't experience any problems at all during a thunderstorm in the French alps last summer, so we have got a good 'un.

If there is a downside to this tent, it is caused by one of it's great advantages - the poles! Unlike the Tigris, which has fibre glass poles, this thing has aluminium ones which make this tent very sturdy and rigid, but they are very heavy, and it does take up space in the car - which brings us back to the reason why we sold our Palace - A big and comfortable tent, but heavy and bulky.

But do you know what?.It is well worth it if you get a waterproofed one!

Top Tip: Get a Maritsa Groundsheet - This thing is enormous, and you can 'fit' the tent onto a pitch better if you use the groundsheet as a guide. We found some pitches in Italy were just too small for us, The groundsheet saved us from trying to put up the tent in pitches which were just too small.

We bought the Maritsa 700 for its space, previously having a 6 berth Outwell. The first trip we took the tent leaked - everywhere - awning windows, doors, floor etc etc. We took it straight back to go outdoors, and after looking at the pictures we had taken, said it had not been waterproofed. We got an immediate exchange. Our next trip was our 2 week family holiday in Cornwall. Again, the tent leaked. My son woke up one morning to find it had leaked that bad, it had come through onto his sleeping bag, which was soaking. Again, we took it back to go outdoors, who firstly said they would have to test it (which would not have been an issue), but after seeing the pictures we took gave us an immediate refund! We have now gone back to an Outwell and couldn't be happier with it. I contacted Vango about problems with both tents and am still waiting for a resolution to this 4 weeks later. In my opinion, Vango family tents are poor, their customer service is worse.

Hi, bought this tent for our family for a trip to France. After 3 nights it started to rain. Within 5 minutes it was leaking along the whole back roof seem, The sleeping pods were wet and all sleeping bags wet. The overall quality was shocking for this tent. My advise is don't buy one. After sending an e-mail to Vango I am still awaiting there response after a week so looks like they do not care about customer service. A two week holiday wrecked by a leaky tent.

Just returned from 4 day camping trip. I brought this tent from Go outdoors about 3 months ago and only just had the opportunity to use it.

I upgraded from an Outwell Hartford and I thought I was only ever going to buy Outwell tents again. However I needed a little more room for my wife and two girls and although I wanted an Outwell tent when my wife saw the Vango Maritsa 700 she wanted it, and she was right it is a fantastic tent. Here are a few of my highlights.

The porch is great, it frees up a lot of space in the living area. I sent up my cooking area in here with the front door half open.

The living area can get very hot but with the vets, and side doors it cools down very quickly.

The dark material in the sleeping pods give you a few hours extra sleep.

The walk in wardrobe is brilliant keeps clothes out of the way, but can also be used as an extra bedroom if necessary.

There are electrical points all around the tent for easy access to the hook up.

I read a few reviews of this tent before I brought it and the one thing that was highlighted in a few of them is that the steel bars would cease up and not come apart, but I had no problems with this.

Finally and maybe the most important for one day and night there was torrential rain and 20mph winds and there was no sign of any leakages anywhere.

I can't rate this tent hight enough 10/10

Thanks Vango

Bought this tent after seeing a friends 2010 version in action on our last camping trip. We thought we'd bought our 'tent for life' already but when we saw the space that is offered by the Maritsa we were swayed to make a purchase! It helped that GO price matched and the tent came in under £400.

Just returned from 6 days camping in the new tent and we're more than happy with it.

Very quick to put up, the colour coding system definitely helps speed things up and having moved from fibre glass poles to steel we loved how quick and easy it was to put the poles together and thread them through.

Once up the space is amazing. There are only 2 of us using the tent, so we had the main pod as our bedroom. The middle pod was the walk in wardrobe and the smaller end pod was the toilet/en suite. This left us with more room than we knew what to with in the living area!

The porch is again very spacious and we managed to set up a small galley style kitchen with our kitchen stand and preparation table. This left a clear walk way through from the front door.

We purchased the front enclosed canopy too, which we weren't going to put up for this trip, but decided we'd use it for storing our trailer and bikes which fitted in there no issue. The extra space the porch gives you isn't really needed to be fair as the tent is big enough without it, but we figured that we'd be able to sit out in it during the summer months or if its raining.

The 'Lights Out' pods are an essential piece of kit and I can't believe Vango haven't released these for their older tents. Rather than waking up with the sunrise we were sleeping till 8am and feeling better for it.

The window blinds have zips rather than Velcro to hold them down, which was a nice feature as it offers a bit more privacy since the windows are properly secured down.

Would definitely recommend this tent to anyone who is looking for a little more space, without having to add on extra porches/extensions.

We're Vango converts now - won't be looking back.

This is our first tent and we initially decided on this one because we wanted a tent with 3 separate bedrooms. The front canopy adds the extra room needed without paying for a separate canopy!

We tried it out last weekend and were very pleased. It was very easy to erect. The colour coordinated poles and tags really help. We got it up in half an hour. The only thing that held us back was the hard ground on the campsite!

There is masses of room inside. We ended up with 4 adults and 4 children sleeping in it. We had bought a 2 man pop up tent for 2 of the adults and even with that in the living area there was still plenty of room!

It was very hot inside when we had done putting it up but after opening both side doors it soon cooled down. It was plenty warm enough that night.

Went down just as quick. Although, as other people have said the poles were a little stiff and stuck together but it wasn't a major issue.

We bought one of these to replace an aging Rage Harstaadt (hence the user name) which was a great tent but a bit of a pain to put up (but at £70 new, all in it was real VFM!)

I bought ours from Go Outdoors (£450) - I had a few reservations as a few reviews I had read had suggested they could be a bit leaky, but decided if it was a problem it could go back as faulty. I also checked on the 'how to erect your tent' tips on the equipment areas of this site and watched the youtube video for the Montana which was very useful.

We went off to the Lakes knowing we were in for some rain and (perhaps foolishly) never having had a go at putting the tent up - no problems - the tent was up and fully guyed in under 40 mins. We use ours with a footprint which saved a fair bit of mess when it came down.

The supplied pegs looked OK but we invested in hard ground pegs a long time ago which we always use and had no problems with pegs pulling loose etc.

Great tent - huge. Loads of room and we really enjoyed the novelty of separate 'kitchen' area. The tent was surprisingly warm (our previous one didn't have a sewn in groundsheet) and we all slept with the bedroom pods doors open. The footprint may have also helped as an additional layer of insulation from the ground.

Plus points:

Huge area inside, plenty of room in the pods, great to be able to stand up if you are tall (I'm 6'1').

Warm and draughtproof.

Waterproof!

Lots of inbuilt storage pockets.

Lots of acces points for EHU.

Good ventilation.

Good window placement/curtains.

Negatives:

As previously mentioned the poles do tend to 'grip' each other and can be difficult to separate on taking the tent down. Mine will get a thin layer of vaseline next time to help in this area.

Tent poles only have minimal colour marking so you know which goes where. One of ours had no marking at all and we had to assemble everything else to find out where it went. Coloured PVC tape (5 different colours in the one pack from the £1 shop) soon sorted that out.

'Kitchen area' sewn in groundsheet - this has a tendency to flop over outward and sit flat on the ground, despite being attached by a toggle to the door. This makes sweeping out easier but a minor inconvenience when it's raining as you need to be careful with arranging the storm flap from the door under the groundsheet.

Front door - end door call it what you will - this slopes down and out from the roofline but isn't brilliant at shedding water. If you use this as your main door as we did water tends to drip off the bottom of the door, as you open it, onto the sewn in ground sheet. This may not be an issue for you if you place the tent differently wrt the prevailing wind, or use the side doors (of which there are two). I got around this by using a porch I had picked up from another tent (Go Outdoors sale £12) for just this sort of eventuality which sheltered the door from the rain and minimised the door shedding water as it stayed largely dry. (Mind you the porch and the tent are mismatched in terms of colour - but that isn't important to us!)

As already mentioned - it rained - and hard! (We were in the Lake District). We stayed dry and no leaks were seen in the tent. I was a very careful in using a gas lantern for illumination one evening but this did cause a lot of condensation - something we didn't encounter again.

Overall - a great tent and absolutely no regrets at buying this. Not top marks because of the sticky and poorly marked poles and drippy door. But these are generally minor gripes that were easily sorted.

What a fantastic tent! Absolutely love it. There were 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 6 year old in our party and there was loads of space for all of us. Plenty of head height, spacious sleeping and living areas and stood up to wind and rain. Solid as a rock and no leaks. The dark bedroom inners made a difference and it was really a home from home. It was a bit tricky to take down (hence the 9 stars). Some of the poles didn't want to come apart and the children had to lie on the tent to stop it ballooning up with every gust of wind. Hopefully this will improve with experience as this was our first time out with it.

Hi folks ,thought I would add my two penith with regards the Maritsa. After LOTS of searching , and advice we were thrown towards this tent ,it seemed to tick all the boxes , space, area layout, hight, pitch etc. We bought ours from Go Newcastle ready for our trip to the Scottish border , set out on Sunday weather fine and sunny and arrived at our campsite Highfields house which were great. I then proceeded to erect the tent, wish I had left it down, 2 of the main guide ropes came clean away, then the wind started to pick up but not enough to blow other tents , ours the two back poles gave way at the centre D joint, no matter what we did we could not stay in the tent and slept in the car until morning packed tent away ,and headed straight for GO, they assessed the tent and gave us a refund. I Know all tents arnt the same and some of you folks on here have a very good opinion of this tent, however I shall not be buying a Vango again, Folding camper here we come.

Having owned numerous large tents over the years when it came to replacing (wanting to not needing to) the last one (a large Khyam) this is the only tent I looked at that ticked all the boxes, bedrooms you can stand in, a living area that is very spacious with plenty of storage areas and large enough windows to let in plenty of light, a porch area (that is not an accessory)with a sewn in groundsheet (on newer versions anyway) and yes big enough to cook in with again plenty of light. If I have found one problem it is that when taking down after a week of mixed weather (rain, gales to lovely sunshine)we found some of the poles very tightly pushed together and difficult to part but with a bit of huffing and puffing they did come apart, this is the only reason I gave the tent 9/10 but all else is fine, manufacturer and HH say its going to be a good tent and thats exactly what it is.
