User Reviews of the Breckenridge Deluxe

We bought our Brekenridge 3 years ago secondhand as our first large family tent. Ours is the 3 bedroom older green version, the porch is slightly smaller than on the newer version. Overall the tent has served us really well. We've camped on the cliff edge at Dorset in some horrendous weather when friend's tents have collapsed all around us, and this stayed solid as rock. As mentioned in other reviews, it has loads of pegging points at different heights that keeps it really stable. The dome shape is much better equipped to handle strong winds than tunnel tents. Claims to be 8 berth, but you'd struggle to get 3 in any pod, though it does sleep 6 comfortably. We use with 2 adults 2 kids, using the 3rd bedroom as a large wardrobe. The main living area is huge, and very well laid out, we have all the cooking stuff and an inflatable sofa in there. The porch isn't that wide, just about big enough to bbq in the rain, and just about big enough to store the bikes overnight. The negatives have already been mentioned, pitching the inner first then having to get the flysheet over is tricky in bad weather. On the plus side the 2 layers provides extra warmth. Our kids would have preferred to have sleeping areas right next to us when we first started using the tent (they were then 7 and 5), but now they are getting older they are happy in the more private pods. Somehow this tent does seem more cosy and welcoming than many others, when we camp with friends ours always seems to be where the kids sit and play and watch movies in the evenings if the weather is bad. We're now considering looking for something even bigger, either the outwell vermont or ohio, but if we can't find a bargain, we'll just keep this and use for another year. Would I buy one again now? Probably not due to the separate flysheet, but if someone is looking for a first family tent and can find one at a bargain like we did, then go for it, you won't be let down. Ade

I have been very impressed with this tent and it ticks most of the right boxes. It is prefect for my family of 5 as it gives us oodles of space. Could do with more storage pockets on the inside and pitching the inner first has been frustrating when putting the tent up or taking it down in the rain. When it is up though it is solid as a rock and with a hydrostatic head of 3000mm the it will have to be pretty severe for anything to breach the tent.

In sum I would buy this tent again. There are some other makes of tent which are very similar but cost a lot more for nothing extra. I would recommend this tent to friends and family.

George Monsoon's review pretty much says it all about this tent. It's a huge tent but very spacious and very well made. Mine has taken a few batterings with minimal problems but it's not worth buying unless you have a large family (6+). George was spot on with the flysheet issues in getting it right over the inner. But its solid and would take a nuclear war to shift it.

We bought this tent to accommodate our growing family 3 years ago and have been very satisfied with the buy. The tent is massive! Inside you have a large central dome rising to about 7 or 8ft at the middle. There are three very large bedroom pods attached, going out from the central dome that will comfortably sleep 2 or 3 people with enough extra room to store luggage. If you just wanted to accommodate a lot of people overnight, this tent is Ideal. If you sleep people in the main dome as well as the bedrooms, you could probably sleep 12 to 15 people comfortably.

The interior is bright and well illuminated from the natural light outside, even with the curtains shut and huge storage pockets are arranged all over the tent, which is perfect for sticking those odds and ends.

As an extension within the flysheet, there is an extra room (no groundsheet) that is perfect for using as a cooking / storage area, but in bad weather, will allow water underneath, so don't stick anything in here that you are not prepared to get wet.

Drawbacks - this is a BIG heavy tent when packed away and occupies a lot of luggage space in the car. The flysheet is huge and can be very tricky to draw over the inner tent, especially if windy.

The guy lines are a bit flimsy although the tent makes up for this because it has hundreds, and I would suggest buying some extra stronger large plastic tent pegs to give you peace of mind on a windy night.

That said, we have sat through a force 6 gale facing the wind and rain on the coast and the only damage in the morning was a small puddle in the utility room. No water got into the main tent at all.

This is the PERFECT tent for a family on a budget. Just have a little patience when putting the thing up.

This fantastic new invention turns a can of drink into a sealed bottle, protecting drinks from being spilt, keeping out creepy crawlies, and keeping fizz in. They are a must for any camper or caravanner.
