User Reviews of the Family Vario 600 Plus

We purchased this tent last summer and have been really pleased with it. After a lot of research we decided on this tent for the size of living space and also how light it was (as in day light not weight!).

After going in other tents they felt dark and dingy where as this felt very light and spacious. We have two children under 3 and on those wet days - the space is definitely needed and made full use of.

We also purchases the full canopy which gives us a large dry outdoor space - again well worth the money

All in all a fantastic tent.

Having only read up on this tent on the internet and not actually seen one up and tried to buy one second hand we purchased a brand new one in March. We are so pleased with the size of the living and bedroom areas especially the width in the living area. Our two boys have the bedroom for two and we have the bedroom for four. Bedroom for two fits a double air bed only and not two singles. 4 berth bedroom comfortably fits two double air beds or one double and single.

The annexe we have used for cooking in or as a changing room. Plenty of pockets for putting all the bits and pieces away. Very light as lots of windows and we especially like the front windows for looking out. Purchased the footprint and carpet to go with it and pleased with both.

Only gripe would be its not so easy to put up and take down as our other previously owned tunnel tent the campus Indiana 8 and as other reviews have said it is easy. But with any tent this is something you don't know until you purchase and put it up. We have one small leak where the taped seam is not finished off in the annexe. Have only done 8 nights so far and we have had sun, persistent rain and very strong winds and the tent has held up to all.We would recommend.

I agree with everything said about this fantastic tent it is the best tent I have ever owned!

I do have couple of things I would like to point out, which are the only real downside for us,

Firstly in wind the side window shades lift letting in a slight draft.

Secondly said shades are only operable from the outside.

But you cannot have everything can you?

Brilliant tent, loads of living space also bought footprint groundsheet good job we tried putting it all up before we went away as the footprint groundsheet didn't have any eyelet holes in to hold the front of the tent down.

Went to Barnmouth in North Wales in may 08 brilliant weather no problems with tent at all but went Newquey in august 08 for a week weather awful, tent wouldn't stand up to the strong winds, kept having to put the pegs back in most of the time, had to cut our holiday short because of the weather the tension bars couldn't hold the tent up sturdy husband had to keep hold of the tension bars why I packed up loads of stuff as they were bending.

This tent is too big for 2 but perfect for a family of 4 or more.So much room Lots of windows making it perfect for a British summer. Fully waterproof as our weekends away have proved this. We had a 6 seater garden table and chairs in the tent with full kitchen and there was still room for kids to be able to play.

Having owned several tents in the past, this tent is far superior in quality and sturdiness. We love its size and ease of putting up. The side awning is ideal for our porta-loo. It is light and airy. The sewn-in ground sheet keeps us warm and snug in the heaviest winds. Can't wait to go away for our fortnight's holiday in August to Cornwall.

Agree with all other positive comments, we have found this tent to be fantastic. Its put up with some hefty weather! Snow and hail storm in July 07 on its first trip (as well as lots and lots of rain) and a magnificent thunder and lightning show in France last year 08 (We did chicken though and watched the two storms collide above us in the car, middle of the night), although as advised we bought down the sun canopy for fear of it getting damaged. The tent didn't batter an eyelid (or loose a guy). Plenty of space to bring in chairs etc overnight, and lovely to hide away our four teir clothes storage thingamy in the wardrobe extension. We have a double height double bed - posh campers us, and this fitted nicely with room to walk around in the bigger bedroom. Our children are still rather small and enjoy being together in the smaller room (2 singles or a double airbed fit fine). Our previous tent was very dark and and a dome tent so this really is so much easier to move around in. Cant remember exactly how much we bought it for £300 approx new I think including the canopy. Love it, get quite a few visitors for a nosey. Only possible downside- it is really huge so you need to check pitch sizes are adequate when you book!

This is our First tent, and we have just spent our first weekend camping. The Vario 600 plus is fantastic it does not take to long to put up and take down and because of the large living space is a dream to camp in (no getting under each others feet when stuck inside). The tent managed 3 hours of thunder storms and very heavy rain on the first night, heavy rain day two and three and very high winds and driving rain on night 4. We had no leaks and felt safe in the high winds, with the fitted ground sheet the tent kept the rain water and wind out and with the windows and skylights did not feel dull and enclosed with the doors closed. We found this tent on display at a camping show in March 2008 and paid £270 for it (new).

Having purchased our Vario 600 plus last year, we have been more than happy with it.

We had a Vario 5 before this one and was pleased with it's layout, but having experienced horizontal rain getting under its skirt Whitsun 2007, decided to plump for a tent with a SIG.

The Vario 600 plus is wider, and an extra segment longer than the V5, giving even more living area. This is great when the weather gets grim, as your friends can take refuge, or normally for us, our friends pile in for the evening.

We have just spent a weekend in Bath for the Balloon Fest, but the weather was rather unfavourable. Strong winds and heavy rain, which the tent took in its stride!

I would attribute this to the fact that in addition to the five main poles, the Vario range have two very sturdy bracing poles inside. These are great for hanging things off too. Not sure if they'd withstand hanging a 40' LCD though. Only kidding Doris!

The 4+2 inners suit us, there is just two of us plus a big dog. The 2 man inner is great for holding a mini wardrobe and changeing area.

The side storeroom on the 2007 model is just enough room for a threeway fridge plus a larder unit. I guess this is increased on the 2008 model, and you may well be able to cook in it, something I wouldn't do anyway because of food smells.

The front does not unzip like the old model, but that's because it would defeat the object of the SIG.

Two gripes about the sleeping pods though, Sunncamp have decided to fit the pod zips to the outer edge of the pod next to the flysheet rather than towards the middle of the tent like they were on previous models. I find this a pain to climb over my Doris to get out the pod. Secondly, there's no zip for electrics in the pods, UH? what happened there? Guys out camping still need leccy lights and gadgets!

Talking of gadgets, in usual Sunncamp stylee, this tent has many, many pockets and tidies about the place. Three hanging tidies, plus little side pockets, and toggles for tying back windows and doors etc too.

All in all though, I'm well pleased with the tent, and it's reasonably priced, sturdy, quick and easy to erect. One recommendation over and above this great tent would be to purchase 24 steel pin type pegs for those hard ground areas. The pegs that come as standard are a touch too soft, suiting most soft fields but buckle when facing a sunbaked hard field.

Bought this tent last summer, did various shows through various weathers. And never found it wanting. 4/2 bedroom would be better 3/3. Storage area is, as was said, great for portaloo.

Have owned Vario 6 (without SIG) and upgraded to Vario 600plus.

Initially a little disappointed with the seam quality (leaked on first outing), 2 + 4 not as useful as equal 3 + 3 of Vario 6 (2 is a little snug with no room for kit), drips from torsion bars rubbing on fabric(*) (why no double fabric at these points?) and removal of dual zip on Vario 6 that allowed for the top of the front door to be open for ventilation even when raining (barn door effect).

However am more impressed following the battering it took over the May bank holiday in Devon where we remained snug and 'dry'(*) whilst other tents both collapsed and provided little resistance to driving rain!

Size, height (no aching back from bending over) and living space is second to none.

Have owned 4 Sunncamps' over the years and would not buy another brand.

We bought this last year (October) and have just used it for the first time. Wow - we are so pleased and very impressed with the tent.

Lots of living space, lots of light. We were able to fit a double airbed in the '2' room - which some people had said they were unable too.

The annexe was great for storing luggage.

We found this so much easier to put up than our previous tent (Vango Colorado 800dlx).

The only problem we had was some mud/water came through the seams of the groundsheet - we did have horrendous weather!

We are so glad we bought this model.

We changed from I think the Family vario 600 not a lot of difference but has the sewn in ground sheet, an extra panel in the length of the tent, plus small storage extension. Bedrooms 4 plus 2 is ideal for us as normally it is just the two of us which gives good room in one and allows us to have the odd visitors sleeping or the second bedroom is used for storage and clothes etc.

We camped at Easter in this tent and had 4 inch of snow in the night, it collapse the main poles down to almost ground levels without any damage. Our only criticism and it is a small one, although in our tent there are hanging points for electric lights there no cable exits from the bedrooms as there was in the old one which is a bit messy having to use the main door zips for the cable.

Everything else is first class with room in the main area to sit 10 adults around a couple of tables for a few drinks, games or quiz in the evening.

Was first time in our Vario this weekend. It's a lovely tent, lots of living space, though we can't see how 6 would fit in the bedrooms, we had to sleep 3 & 1, we feel equal size bedrooms would be better. The small side room is ideal for the portaloo, which is why we chose this tent.

Lovely tent with lots of living space but I Like the bedrooms at eithier end and not together. Also a fair bit of noise when windy and a bit of a bugger to put down if it was windy
