8 Reviews of the Evolution 300

I wanted a tent I could use all year round, after seeing this model in a camping centre near the Brecon Beacons on a particularly windy day, I was impressed. The design of the tent meant it retained its shape well and was quite stable, while others looked as if they were about to be slapped to a rag.

I’m not a hard-core camper, neither is the other half, so when we want to get away during the winter I find taking a heater, and paying the extra for hook up is well worth it, this is the heater I use, and can highly recommend it for any size tent.

It has an adjustable thermostat and once set can be left to cut in and out all night, though obviously care should be taken.

In order for a heater like this to work well, a sealed tent with a sewn in groundsheet is the best design. However there are a few short comings which you should be aware of.

Please bear in mind I’ve only used this tent in winter so far.

1. As has already been said, when the door is wet and you need to open it, because of the design a certain amount of water ingress occurs, if it is raining this is obviously compounded.

2. There isn’t a secondary fly screen door to keep out any bugs; this would also have helped with the condensation problem I experienced as during fine weather you could open the main door allowing air to circulate.

3. The zip doesn’t run continuously around the door orifice, instead it runs along the top and down the front side, the bottom of the door overlaps the opening by about 6’’ and is secured to the bottom with two Velcro patches, and two elasticated loops at the corners to be connected to tent pegs, this means the doors are not totally sealed, but are totally waterproof.

4. There’s a cable entry point at the front left-hand side (aft looking forward from inside the tent), which is ideal for the heater, though technically you don’t need it because of the design of the doors (I’m being picky here).

5. The condensation which formed by the end of 3 days – 2 nights camping I have to describe as excessive, I had to use my towel to wipe the inside of the “living” area before I could pack away the tent, even though the outside of the tent was totally dry, I later unrolled the tent at home in my living room, where I left it to dry for the next 2 days.

As Explained this isn’t a bad tent, I’ve focused on the negative points so you can look out for these with a critical eye when you view the tent for yourself before you buy, I’m also comparing it to an Outwell Carolina S which I’ve used in similar conditions with no condensation (though it was slightly warmer so the heater was set lower which could have made the difference).

The positives

The tent is well made, is ideal for quite windy conditions, where the Outwell wouldn’t be suitable, it’s very easy to erect, and easily big enough for 2 people for a long weekend or even a week.

Have had some great short breaks in this little tent, the only drawback is that when the weather isn't good and we need to be in the tent, although there are only two of us, the aerodynamic shape of the living area reduces the useful space and the height means that my husband who's 6'1'' has to stoop.

Very good tent (and fab shape!). Quick to pitch and reasonably well ventilated. Shape helps it be very robust in strong winds as well.

In extreme rainy weather, we did suffer from a bit of condensation - however only a tiny amount and it was extreme. Possibly also own fault for hitting side occasionally, so don't blame the tent!

My only comment would be shame re doors - you need to be careful opening them in the rain as have a tendency to fall in if you're not careful.

Great tent and have just invested in the next size up. Perfect for 2.

Love the SIG and definitely toasty!

V simple little tent! we also are a family of 4, and wanted a quick night stop tent for just throwing up.

Pros - v v quick and easy to get up; yes, 4 of us can fit in sleeping compartment; watertight and windproof. As the kids grow, since it is sown in groundsheet, we can have one adult in living area or dispense with inner.

Cons - door should have mesh option really, zip a fiddle to do, and easy for rain to get in when you do open it.

We bought this tent for a short camping trip and to use wild camping. We are a family of four and we do all fit in the bedroom pod! We had a double and a single airbed - discovered that the airbeds don't fit through the door if they're fully inflated, so you have to finish inflating them in the tent! Next time we'll probably use self-inflating mats or roll-mats. The living area is great because it's sewn-in and we had room for our clothes and to get changed (one adult at a time of course).

It wasn't very windy or wet so can't comment on this. We did have hot days and cool nights and suffered from condensation but it only dripped down when we accidentally hit our heads on the living room ceiling! There were four of us after all!

The ventilation is pretty good. Fly screen outer doors would be nice though. Really like the angled prop-up vents that could be left open in the rain. A few wee pockets in the living room would be nice, too. The shape and design is clever and it's very easy to put up. It isn't the quality of our main tent and that's why I haven't given it 10/10.

Would be a very comfortable 'crouch-in' tent for 2 people and, as we've proved, a cosy tent for 4. Having the sewn-in ground sheet means you have the option of sleeping in the living area, too!

Time will tell, but seems a good tent for £80 (PJ Camping).

Just bought one of these as a weekend to go camping with my young son. Great tent, easy to put up on your own (15 mins max) and totally waterproof. This was tested with very heavy rain during the night.

Sleeping area will easily sleep 3 and porch area good size for keeping the rest of the gear etc.

Nice little features (covers for windows, vents etc). Highly recommended.

Bought this for motorcycle touring, already owning the excellent Vulcan 600. This is just as good, on a smaller scale. No leaks, easy to put up, and fine in a strong wind.

There is one major selling point to this tent;

SEWN IN GROUNDSHEET!

As far as I know, nothing else this size has one. Completely insect and critter proof means you can store foods and cloths outside the bedroom. This is a £100 tent, £500 tents don't have that feature

I came across this tent by accident at an outdoor display. Its big enough for two and room to spare.Easy to put up with only three poles, has a sewn in groundsheet and erects as one or hang bedroom pod after.Plenty of light with front windows and minimal condensation due to plenty of ventilation.Great weekend tent and has a different look to other tents ive seen.I knew I would be impressed as I already had the evo 400.
