We were very happy with this tent on all the holidays we took in it. It has masses of space inside, stood up to all the bad weather and was pretty simple to put up. The tent's shape does mean you need a large footprint to pitch it. The only reasons we moved on to an Outwell Bear Lake 6 are:

1) The BL6 is polycotton so didn't get so hot in the sun (not a problem in the UK!)

2) Taller bedrooms so you can stand up in them.

3) Straight edges in the living space for putting furniture up against.

Just had out first week camping using this tent. And WOW we are so impressed with it. Easy to put up (inner 1st) and easy to take down.

Fully sown in living area, with 2 bedrooms and porch area coming off. In the bedroom area we had a double air bed and single and still had room for another single if we wished.

As we had bad weather for a day we ended up having 5 adults and 3 children in the living area at one point and there was still plenty of room.

The only bad point I can think of is that the main door entrance lets in water if its no pegged down. So of a night and if we went out we had to peg the main door down and then go in from the back entrance, to make sure the tent was fully water tight.

Tent held heavy rain and wind very well.

Fantastic. Used a tunnel tent before and this was limited for living space. Got my Diablo XP and WOW - so much more room. Beautifully laid out - not just a square box! We use one bedroom for me and the wife and the 3 kids (14,12,& 6) use the other. So although its a 6 berth tent it is better suited to 4/5 - unless you're into threesomes. Love the fact that the bedrooms are well separated which gives parents a bit of privacy from the kids. Use the porch area as the kitchen area which with the side canopy door open means no smells go into the main tent and you can still cook even if its chucking it down outside.

Actually bought a canopy extension at the same time as the tent - but haven't used it yet as we have more than enough space!

Easy to pitch and re-pack with its own trolley bag.

This a quality tent which you expect with the Vango name - have had no problems with leaking (despite several heavy downpours), broken zips or tears in the fabric.

Only downside (not that we've had the problem) could be that because of its size - some sites may not have pitches big enough.

Just come back from a 7 night trip to Norfolk and the number of campers making complimentary comments about it was constant.

Massive tent, served us well for a few trips but we soon realised that putting up the tent was a pain don't get me wrong we could put it up fairly quickly but it seemed that there where too many poles and it was that that was the weak point some ripped sleeves if not careful had to repair three poles due to splitting. Very difficult to control in a breeze. All in all very roomy some of the modifications too newer models are brilliant but will be looking for an alternative with easier pitching.

Have used this tent in quite extreme conditions for a large family tent and found it to be very stable, very waterproof and instils lots of confidence. Putting it up is a two person job and it is inner first so not ideal in the wet- however its performance once its up is great. Weak point is the poles- have had to repair/replace sections/restring 3 times in 8 months though have used it 6 times so its had intensive use!

We brought this tent at a millets tent show last summer - it was a show tent that had got a bit dirty, had a small hole in main groundsheet, & a small tear between groundsheet and flysheet, so it was a bargain at £80. We got the tear repaired-£10, put some gaffer tape both sides of hole and gave it a clean. We've just got back from our first week in Cornwall with it. It was great we had underestimated how much room there was. Kept the breezes out wonderfully, as many others have done - used the porch as kitchen/utility area. Got a bit wet on the inside when sleeping bags were right against fly sheet. Hubby put it up with a little assistance from son but you could easily put up on your own if not too windy.

When I first bought the tent I did as I always do had a trial run putting it up in the garden. I then realised I didn't have a big enough garden. This tent is so big it should come with a postcode!

Although possible to pitch solo, it's best with a helper as getting the larger poles to bend can be tricky. The porch, with bath-tub groundsheet is great as we have made that our cooking space allowing us to prepare meals in any weather, and keep all the muddy shoes, footballs, wet coats, etc, out of the living space.

The large central dome living area, with integrated groundsheet, is tall (I'm 6'0 and can walk about comfortably) and plesantly draft free. The little touches like velcro tabs to hold the light wires to the side of the tent up to the central hook, the cable access zip (coloured red) to get lamp connections to the car, the storage pockets make this a well thought out tent. And with the 600, there is an alternative door/emergency exit to the living space.

The bedrooms are large enough to take a double airbed with plenty of room to spare for bags. (One particularly cold night we managed to get 2 airbeds and the whole family into one bedroom to keep warm!)

We've endured some horrible weather without any significant leaks (some minor wicking where the flysheet ties are).

One caution though! Be careful when inserting poles as the fabric tubes in which they are inserted on the inner tent can tear quite easily if material becomes trapped in the pole joint sleeves. We tore an inch long gash in it the second time it was used. Thankfully it hasn't grown on subsequent uses.

As others have said it's only drawback (and advantage) is the size. Check with the campsites, as we have found that some wouldn't take tents over 6 meters, or not without paying a premium. Tent pegs too, a bit flimsy, but that could be levelled at most original pegs. Some sturdier ones for the main ropes and tie downs are a must.

We love this tent. Despite the fact there are only the 2 adults and a (large) dog we like to have plenty of room. Our tent is the version without the extra pole in the bedrooms which I think was added this year or last?? Anyway I'd say the bedrooms only really sleep 1 in each comfortably if you are using any kind of camp bed.I guess you could get 3 in each if you were using just a roll mat and sleeping bag. However, as the living space has a fully sewn in ground sheet there is ample room there for other beds. Loads of room for table and chairs and visitors as well as all the clothing etc. The porch is great for storing kitchen equipment and we have cooked in it when it was too wet outside. The porch area has a bathtub style ground sheet but we still had puddles after a night of rain, it may just have been we didn't put it together correctly though!

Only reason we are changing our tent is, I feel you need 2 fully fit adults to get it put up. Hubby has a disability that means he can only do the bare minimum and it's too tough on my own. Will be sad to see it go but would fully recommend it to any family who like a decent amount of living space but are willing to put in the extra bit of effort to pitch it.

Excellent tent, Pitched it myself 1st time in well under an hour. As per other comments it is massive. Unfortunately on the second day of camping at the foot of the Mourne mountains we got hit with a gale. The diablo was the last standing on the site, unable to take it down in the high winds it survived impressively until a porch pole snapped. I can't emphasize enough how strong the wind and rain were, so strong you could barely close the car door.

Replaced porch pole, and several sections of dome poles. Repaired 2x holes in fly sheet made by snapped poles. All in all not too much damage.

By: Ellalou  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 18/07/2009

Wow, this tent is so big so warm,so simple and easy to put up, I did put it up single handed. The space inside was big enough for 6 adults and 5 kids.

The porch has now been renamed the kitchen as it is a safer way of cooking for the kids etc.

I took it to haven last year, and I had one of the few remaining tents, standing after a heavy severe storm,no damage was done no leakage, not a drop, did not even have to brave the rain to refix lines or pegs,my sister has bought the same tent.

Only down side I found was errmm it wont fit back in its handy trolley bag, any idea or is it me?

Hi just returned from week end with new Diablo.XP.Not sure of the year?!

Had continual rain from 7 pm Saturday till about 4 the following morning. Not a drip! Really pleased with it, had the older version but the extra pole in bedroom is vast improvement. If I had to pick anything to moan about it would be the fact that now you cant open the screens on the windows! They only half unzip and then have to be pegged out to keep them open. But everything else is great even down to the pegs , really strong. Well pleased , going again in 2 weeks so lets hope all ok for then !

Fab tent! Highly recommend getting the 'footprint' - used it for the first time this weekend and it made putting the tent up so much easier and kept the groundsheet of the main tent perfectly dry then only had the footprint to dry off. Had the tent a couple of years now and love it, although I agree with the comments that it's a bit too much for a weekend unless there's a few people. We've just done a weekend with 4 adults and it's been ok, but would have been too much with just 2 of us! Anyway - well worth it!

I absolutely love this tent very spacious easy to put up and very cosy, all sewn in ground sheets and very spacious awning which we use as our kitchen.

We love it!

It has plenty of room in the pods and a very large living area in the centre dome, we have a 2 year old son now and we haven't taken him camping since he was a baby and we will be taking him in august to Harlyn sands in Cornwall and I'm sure he will love it.

We went camping a year ago and the weather was terrible I remember half way through the night the wind and rain was that bad I said this tents going to take off. It didn't, we got up and every tent in the field except ours was standing in perfect condition everyone else had to go home with bent poles bless them, really good for bad weather you're very safe.

We bought this tent as a last seasons model and have used twice so far, both times we have had wind and rain. Our last outing was to PortPatrick on the west coast of Scotland for the last may bank holiday, it was so windy that my wife 2 daughter and self needed help from 5 other gents to help hold down the large fly sheet. The tent withstood the strong winds and only let rain in due to an air bed pushing one bedroom out under the fly sheet. It has a spacious central room and the porch holds loads of kit. I cant fault it so far.

We bought ours in the autumn of 2007 and used it 4 times in 2008 and are planning a similar number of trips this year. So far so good. We had awful weather in Devon last year but managed to stay dry. Pitching fairly straightforward but lots of pegging and it can be tricky to get the fasteners for the outer over the rings of the inner. The lack of a proper sewn in ground sheet for the porch is also a bit of a weakness as there are not enough to make a proper bathtub. Damage so far, small hole in groundsheet and one of the pole sleeves has a small rip (need to watch that one.)

Great tent we (family of 5+dog+friend)used this quite a few times in many weathers. Pro's: layout, space, space to cook indoors, weatherproof, quite easy to pitch. Cons: inner tent goes up first, some difficulty getting the outer over and in the right place. On the whole a very good family tent.

This is our 3rd Diablo but our 1st XP and whilst the extra poles in the bedrooms make a huge difference the negatives of the later 2008 model over the older 600 model seem odd. The porch does not have storm skirts any longer and the bathtub ground sheet dose not fit well enough to keep out the rain. The door zips are now all single zips so your not able to use the vents at the top of the inner doors without completely unzipping the outer door and finally don't tension the guylines on the now external porch poles as you would normally as this pulls on the inner tent and the main door zip is then put under extreme tension. These issues aside still a great tent with loads of space, just a shame its coming to an end.

By: Topmasher  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:   Date: 04/05/2009

Found this tent takes quite a while to pitch, when it's up it has lots of space and would be good for a week/2 weeks. I've found it too much hassle for the weekend though. On our last trip out it was windy when we un-pitched it and we found that it needed 4 people to hold on to it, good job we had friends with us.

By: Mike70  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 21/04/2009

Excellent large family tent. Takes 2 adults to put it up and takes about an hour to put up, and the same again to take down.

Ours is the 2008 600XP model with two poles per bedroom pod, so loads of space in the bedrooms. Plenty of handy little storage pockets and the porch is big enough to store loads in it, freeing up space for the already vast inner living space.

Cable entry points at the front and the rear, central lamp hanging point at the apex of the main living area, and velcro points up several seams to train a power cable to the hanging lamp.

Would benefit from the addition of a set of King Poles to stretch out the front porch door.

Fantastic tent - very impressed!

I bought one of these tents in the half price sale at GoOutDoors to replace the rip off eBay tent I never used. As it was last minute purchase I never had chance to even check everything was there never mind erect.

It ticked all the boxes for me:-

2 internal separate bedrooms

Spacious living area

Sewn in groundsheet

Colour coded poles

Attached lines

Double skin

The porch was as it turned out a great bonus, although I never managed to figure out the two metal poles with studs they stayed in the bag and the door was rolled up with the attached elastic cords.

I had to erect the tent on my own in the rain, which was a daunting task, the instructions where not very useful but everything went smoothly, help was needed to pull over the flysheet luckily someone from the next tent who was watching me erect just took it upon himself to walk over and help!

Having then pegged down and sat down with a deserved coffee, The space was amazing, I could of parked the car inside.

I then noticed the handy light holder in the middle of the tent, which in turn unfortunately triggered the thought that I had forgot to bring a light! DOH

I was camped in the middle of a field and the wind was strong and rain was heavy, but the tent stood as still as my house, solid and most importantly dry for the whole weekend, condensation was not a problem either. Result for me!

Packing up was also very easy and without any fuss the tent fit straight into the oversized bag which was an forgotten but handy feature of this tent.

Best I've had so far and hopefully will be with me for some time.

We had 2 Vango Diablo 600 xp's in the space of 3 weeks. The first one, all the inner tent came away from the seams. The second one, we took away for 2 weeks to Devon, had that many problems, with coming away at the seams, toggles missing, leaking really badly in 1 bedroom, it came with a hole in the outer tent, where the porch is. Lovely size family tent, but we've been put off with all the problems we've had. We're now looking for an outwell, and are considering the wolf lake 7. Shame, as it has fab space for a tent of this size and we found it so easy to pitch.

Great tent. Needs 2 to put up. Very spacious. Have family of 4. Bought some storm pegs for the flysheet. Fantastic, did not move an inch. Would change it for the newer xp model that has more height in the bedrooms. Put down a cheap sheet first (B&Q), then pitch tent on top, works well to keep the mud of the bottom.

Bought this tent in 2006 and used approx 6 times with husband and 12 year old twins! Absolutely fantastic and cant fault it. Bathtub ground sheet a godsend and really keeps out the wind. Lots of room in living area if weather bad. Taking the dog with us this year so will let you know how it fares then! Would recommend it to any family. Great tent!

By: Kirsty Tyrrell  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 28/07/2008

We have just bought one of these tents and used it for the first time for a weekend. Lots of room in the tent, tent carpet made it cosy although it did attract grass that was difficult to brush out.

The tent was easy to put up despite it being quite windy but it definitely needs two to put it up as its high to get the flysheet over, also to help getting the poles up at first.

The porch groundsheet is separate and it did tend to blow a bit so had to weight it down to stop it lifting.

No problems with condensation as there is plenty of ventilation in the tent.

Pegging out was ok, except the v shaped pegs that are used to peg out the inner bedroom pods bend really badly when being hammered in and when removing them - have since replaced them with better pegs. All the other pegs were fine.

The tent seemed nice and stable even in the wind, and we were kept dry despite really heavy downpours of rain. Really pleased with this tent and are going away in it at the weekend again.

Also didn't have any problems with the size - and we were at a c & cc site.

I just had to comment on the vango 600. I've just come back from the Isle of Skye and this was my experience. I bought the Vango 600 3 weeks prior to by trip and whilst it was unbelievably spacious for just the 2 of us, we felt that with 2 excitable dogs it met our requirements. We firstly practised putting the tent up in a garden to ensure we knew what we were doing. This proved to be easier then we anticipated and we were delighted with it.

Once on holiday we were grateful for the additional space and had no issue with pitching. The weather was admittedly atrocious, with very high winds and driving rain but being in Skye in July we knew this was not unusual. The first few days the tent was ideal although we had an ongoing issue with the porch ground sheet and the porch area in general catching the wind excessively. There is no way to dismantle the porch area, which is a shame because this would have made it a much better design in high winds. Finally our trip was cut short as we returned from the pub to climb into bed but after a further half an hour the tent completely collapsed. 3 of the tent poles split and tore right through the tent and the weight of the tent was impossible to try to lift. After trying in vain to save this tent for nearly an hour, myself,my partner, my 2 dogs and all my belongings retreated to the car for the night. We had to drive the car over the tent to stop it blowing away in the night. On an up side we took several photos of the aftermath and took the time in the morning to pack up the remains which meant that the shop we bought it from allowed us a full refund. We have now bought a Coleman Darwin 7 and are heading to Glencoe in a couple of weeks. So touch wood our next experience will be a better one and I will post my opinion of the Darwin 7 on my return.

A great tent that has served us well.

Some heavy bags for transporting it though, but that goes with the territory. Not too hard to pitch - definitely needs 2 people for the main poles, after that it's all plain sailing.

Lovely big main room that we use as a lounge in bad weather, and being inner pitch first it can really take a beating! No leaks whatsoever, even after being out in the tail-end of a hurricane that blew through the UK last year.

I love it, and will definitely buy another when the times comes to replace it (that being a long time away!).

Loses a star for the chocolate tent pegs that a previous reviewer mentioned too.

By: Ken-  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 25/06/2008

Excellent roomy tent, does need two to pitch but saying that my wife helps me just to put the 1st three poles into position and then she takes the dogs for a walk while I do the rest, takes about 45mins to complete.

We searched hard for a tent with a SIG reason being was to stop the dog getting out, many had SIG but not sealed at the bottom of the door, the Diablo is.

Plenty of options with the windows and doors, ie open, closed or use netting for ventilation, good quality zips used, don't feel like there going to break like they do on some tents, bedrooms are very spacious and tall enough to stand up in, handy pockets to store the doors in when fully open, electric cable entry points on front and back of the tent, velcro straps for securing cables for main light in centre of tent.

Very heavy though at nearly 30kg but does come with a suitcase type bag on wheels.

Only gets a 9 because the pegs that come with it are very soft and I bent quite a few on the 1st outing, stronger pegs and it would deserve a 10

By: LauraS  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 24/06/2008

We have just bought this tent, and as it's the first time we've had anything bigger than a backpacking tent, I was a bit daunted by the thought of putting it up. However, it was very simple in the event!

Having pitched it in fine weather, we then suffered pouring rain and a very strong wind, which seemed to have no effect on the tent whatsoever. Even by the back door, where we couldn't stop the inner touching the outer (possibly because we need to fine tune our pitching skills), we didn't have any leaks at all.

Overall, an excellent tent but beware - it is big!

By: D74blue  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2005   Rating:   Date: 11/06/2008

We got one of these a few years back and have never looked back. It is massive inside, great as plenty room for us to play inside on those rainy days, and we have had a few parties inside ours!
Good head height and excellent at keeping the rain at bay. Although large in size putting up isnt a problem although you definatley need 2 to do it. BRILLIANT bring on the summer

I've used this tent over a dozen times now in the past few years and apart from the very first time putting this up (on my own)I haven't had any problems with it at all.

Instructions are fairly good but to be honest they are made with colour coded sleeves so it's just a matter of putting things where they should go.

With practice I think two people could put this up in 45-60 minutes from un-packing to pegged out, you'll make life so much easier with two of you to be honest.

I've stayed in this tent for over a week and never had any leaks or problems during rain and strong winds. The living area is huge and is ideal if the weather isn't suitable for sitting out in, also the porch is a perfect size for a kitchen to be set up in.

I personally haven't had any problems pitching anywhere due to the size of it but it may be worth ringing ahead to make sure.

As for pitching in the wind, all I do is put pegs through the rings before putting the poles in, that way if the wind picks up it may be awkward but you wont have to go chasing your tent. Then it's just a matter of feeding the poles through and working it from there.

All in all a great family tent with lots of sleeping, living and cooking space.

Bought this at a fab rate at Millets Outdoor Display on last day and haven't looked back since. Only gripe is it won't fit onto some pitches and have had to get a smaller tent, another Vango one! Also it only just fits in our garden for cleaning, drying, etc.

By: Happycamper81  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 29/05/2008

This is a fantastic tent in fact no, it is not a tent, it is a house. It is so very spacious. I am 5.5' my fella is 5.11' we have no problem standing up in the inner tent and I can stand not touching the roof in the big bedrooms. We have never had a problem with the rain, even in the lakes when all it did was rain. It is cosy and mine has a orange interior which makes it feel all the sunnier and warmer in the winter.

With the porch being so roomy we set the kitchen up in it, I even take a inflatable couch. The only reason this tent has a 9/10 rating from me is that many sites will not accept it due to size and when we camp in winter we require electricity for out little heater and not many like giving big tents electricity. I love this tent, but may have to get a smaller one to enable a wider camping choice.

Just bought this tent, and had a go at pitching in the garden. The instructions could have been improved by some diagrams and we nearly ended up flying as the wind was so strong. It's definitely not easy in windy conditions. It took two of us and a considerably amount of good hearted swearing but we managed in the end. Amazed at the size. We bought the 600 even though we are a four person family, thinking the extra room might be useful. A 400 would have been fine I think, as the 600 really is extremely spacious, even if you are tall, there is plenty of headroom. Feel slightly daunted at such a big size tent really, but on the whole, pleased. Will let you know how we get on in the field, so to speak.

By: Merrycat  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 17/05/2008

Great tent, large and roomy and very light. The porch area excellent for setting up kitchen and plenty of doors for access in and out. This tent is however impossible to pitch in windy conditions and I would not advise anyone try it. Find pitching in general fiddly compared to our other tent the coleman Sahara 8 which is really fantastic but overall the Vango is great in good weather and once up withstands torrential downpours, thunder and lighting (our recent trip).

By: StJohn  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 11/05/2008

Generally very pleased. Large roomy tent with plenty of headroom. Instructions clear and went up fairly easily with two of us but not qickly. I would say it is definitely a two person job to erect as it is quite tall and the poles are awkward to manoeuvre if just the one person trying. Only drawback is that the inner goes up first so not good if you need to pitch in the rain.

By: Jeffersg  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:   Date: 07/05/2008

The best tent I have owned to date. I have managed to put this tent up on my own but that is a challenge. With 2 it is very easy to put up. We have even had to put it up quickly in the rain and even though it is inner first it wasn't a problem and it dried out very quickly.
The instructions are good but if you have owned a similar tent you won't need to follow them every time I am a man after all! One slight niggle is that the inner tends to touch the outer by the rear door, and has always done so even after multiple attempts to reshape the tent before pegging. But all in all a superb tent. The only reason we would change it is to get one of the funky(er) new colour choices. Pitch sizes can be an issue so pre booking is a must at some sites it really is bigger than your house! Enjoy it if you get one.

Very impressed with our Vango 600XP,good instructions with respect to pitching. Good quality materials, lots of space and head room even in bedroom pods.

Camped for 8 nights no problems/leaks when rained etc.

Excellent family tent. Footprint a must to protect sewn in groundsheet

Only just pitched it but I am impressed so far. Managed to pitch on my own with a little assistance that is required to hold the tent up while the poles were inserted. Will update again when I've stayed in it!
