8 Reviews of the Monte Verde 700

By: Malcolmtrot  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:   Date: 06/05/2012

I purchased the tent from Camping and General. After one night of, not particularly heavy, rain, there was a large pool of water in the main living area, where the third bedroom would have been. On checking the seam, it appeared to be badly stitched, allowing water to come in. The response from the retailer was to send me some sealant, which after reviewing, I decided not to use and to return the tent. However, they then claimed that the tent would somehow seal itself and this was not a fault! This is more a complaint about the retailer than the tent.

The tent itself is huge and not too difficult to put up, despite its size. It comes in a nice bag with wheels and fits back in to it without too much effort. However, I would say that the pole bag weighs a ton and there may be some sites that cannot accommodate a tent of this size, so you need to check the pitch before you book. You might wish to check the boot size of your car as well!

I had bought it for the porch area and it is useful to be able to keep the space separate, particularly whilst cooking, with two small children running around.

I am sure that it would have got a higher mark had it not been for the leak.

Date of camp, w/c April 3rd - April8th 2012.

The Monte Verde 700 is a fabulous tent. Ample amounts of space, however, we are a family of 5 so didn't use the third bedroom, which meant we had a huge amount of usable space in the main living area. We used the front enclosed porch area as a 'Kitchen' because we could keep it ventilated but due to the middle section door being a full zipped one the cold didn't reach the rest of the tent.

There was ample room for the children to play in the living area, they even invited other children in to play games on a couple of occasions.

The store/tidy panel in the main living area, in front of the bedrooms was incredibly useful and I am considering trying to make something similar to utilise the hooks under the inner window (I think they would be used to clip the third bedroom too ordinarily).

Weather wise, we seemed to have it all, glorious sunshine, frost, hail! and rain. The wind conditions weren't too testing but, the tent held up to all it needed too on this outing and I was always confidant that it would.

Disappointingly, some of the stitching and general manufacture of the tent didn't seem to be of as high a standard as I expected for the price and one of the poles had to have the connecting spring repaired even before we'd used it. Also, the rod for the porch over the door didn't seem to meet the reinforced patch point adequately enough. We also some a small amount of moisture creep up through the groundsheet, we think this was because there was a slight hollow/dip in the ground there which accumulated water, at a point of high foot traffic. Its for these reasons that I am not giving the tent as high a rating as other reviewers have.

In general, I'd recommend this tent to other family's, of up to 5, although I feel that putting the third bedroom up would eat into the available space considerably so wouldn't really think that a group of 6 or 7 would find it so spacious.

Just traded in my brilliant Maritsa 500 for the Monte Verde 700. Got the tent carpet and footprint from Caseys camping. Went away last weekend I was really pleased four of us the kids had a bedroom each, the height was brilliant and loads of room. We loved the lights out inner bedrooms, really good idea and the zip out windows. It was easier than the Maritsa to put up, 40 mins all done. The weather was brilliant so not tested in rain but with it being a 6000hh I've not got any doubts. We were in Dorset for the flash floods and our maritsa never let us down. So now looking forward to main holiday next year. We looked at quite a few family tents before trading in our old tent, value for money size and quality would recommend

Wow! what can I say, best tent we have owned! upgraded to this from the Amazon as it has the front porch enclosed and this is so good for cooking etc in without getting wet! Loads of space, didnt need the 3rd bedroom either, slept 5 of us and a dog in the two rooms easy! More than enough living area, and cosy inside! Thought it was going to be a little dark inside as darker blue but its not as you have so many windows!

I will say though, don't watch or take note of how Vango erects this tent as such a hard way to do it! We had ours up in about 1/2 an hr, start at the back, insert 1 section of poles at a time, peg guys at the back and lean forward, do this all the way to the front, remembering to ring and pin as you go! guy each section to help support as you go, adjust and guy correctly once you have reached the front! So much easier than trying to lift all poles and walk with them! Heavy poles too so try it this way!

No leaks, moans or groans, really happy with this, had a great week away on the isle of Wight in June and would recommend. You can get the footprint but have to search for them! Limited stock but worth investing in to protect your tent! happy hols!

Just had a trial weekend in the new Vango. Got to say didn't pay £550 - more like £460 with the carpet and foot print, so don't be put off by the price.

Yes, we watched the footage on You Tube of how to erect it, but we got in a bit of a pickle when it came to doing it ourselves - however it was up in a round 50 mins, so not bad for a first time. It also came down quickly and fitted in bags supplied which is a bonus. I have no doubt that we will get faster.

Have no doubts this tent is a beauty and does attract attention - you can see tent envy kicking in ! We didn't need the 3rd room either so had a lovely inside space, which is good for us as we are not the tidiest of campers.

We chose this tent for its inside space, roomy bedrooms, fly screened side doors for ventilation, but mainly for the good Vango name and the zip up porch. A porch is a great feature and many people buy them as an add on - this one is part of the tent and has a ground sheet built in. The fact that you are able to secure it is such a bonus. It provides an extra area of seating for shade in the day or for a few drinks with mates when the sun goes down. We think that it will be useful in poor weather as a space to sit in the evenings and cook in if we cant get outside.

A nice tent with lots of room, again I also did not use the 3rd bed room, which gives you a lot more space. Held up to the wet weather well. The only problem is that the tent is hard to erect in strong wind, when there is only two adults, apart from that every thing else was fine. I would recommend this tent to any one and I am longing too get it back out from it's back, and erect it again. This is my second vango tent, and they keep impressing me.

Monte Verde 700 Just got back from the lakes. Excellent tent loads of room. We didnt put the 3rd bedroom in we didnt need it. For some reason you cant get the footprint for it but they are advertised. The tent drys out very quick good storage pockets. Not to hard to erect. Stood up to the wind and rain very well
